In a city littered and saturated by transplants, Aftermath is centered around the LA lifestyle - skate, surf, music and street culture molded together over the years. We are a true LA lifestyle brand. Growing up as a skater and surfer in the greater Los Angeles area, Jim McGrath bore witness and was guided by the many different lifestyles and cultures which inspire his creativity today. From the first bank that he carved on an old rickety skateboard in his childhood hometown of Santa Monica to the first wave he caught in the South Bay, he was living and experiencing the cultures which would eventually become major factors in his life. Through coincidence or fate, Jim needed a new board and met with one of his longtime friends by the name of Ian Wright. Ian has been a top surfboard shaper for the past 23 years and started Aftermath Surfboards in late 2003. As the two talked, Jim became drawn to the Aftermath name. With his 19 years of experience working with some of the top brands in the surf, skate and athletic industry, he envisioned the possibilities of creating a true LA brand. Within weeks, the Aftermath crew was formed. With magazine ads, trade shows, strategic marketing and product placement, word began to spread about Aftermath clothing and shoes. Almost overnight, Aftermath grew into a movement fueled by desire and inspiration. We want to thank our families, friends, retailers, and riders for their loyalty and support.
