My name is Jeanette Mucha, I am a triathlete, spinning instructor and proud mother of two. In April 2009 I also started working full time as a research associate in the microbiology division of Cobalt Biofuels. They are sponsoring my trip to Kona to which I am grateful!
I have been competing as a triathlete for 16 years, including five Ironman distance races in the past four years. In my first two Ironmans I finished in the top 10% overall (men & women) and just missed qualifying for the World Championships by 2 minutes and change in both races. I then faced numerous challenges including exersize induced asthma, scoliosis, and multiple injury/accidents. With the help of my allergist and chiropractor, I made it to the start line of Ironman Arizona last November injury-free, and qualified for my first Hawaii Ironman Championship to be held October 10, 2009.
I also enjoy teaching indoor cycling classes 2-3 times per week at my local gym. As an employee, I have the opportunity to influence and inspire many aspiring athletes. Harriet Anderson (a 74 yr old Ironman athlete) takes my Friday 5:50am spin class & is far more of an inspiration than I could ever be!
My race schedule for 2009 includes Oceanside 70.3, Wildflower Half Ironman, Ironman Coeur d'Alene, and the Hawaii Ironman World Championships. I also to plan to do a few sprint triathlons and running road races for speed work leading up to my core races.
As additional training I also participate in charity century rides, open water swims, and local cycling time trials. In 2007, I was the Tour de Menlo's first woman and tenth overall (male & female) in their "king of the mountain" time trial competition.
Since I started working full time, training has been challenging (to say the least!). I am learning how to cut out the recovery workouts and still be able to get in great shape. I was there for the run this October, but my bike mileage and power workouts were lacking - I am planning on remedying this for Louisville next August. I'd really like to get back to Kona!
