SOAB Round 4 in Alix, Alberta

Out of all the tracks from last year, my first year of racing, this Alix track was my favorite so I was excited to be going back to it.  It was even better to be on the 250

F as the old CR125 had some issues, which made some of the big hills hard to get up.  I had a great time and was doing well in the ladies class with a great start in the first moto I held onto 4th until the last lap, finishing in 5th.  The Junior B class was even fun and I managed to finish in 25th in the first moto and 26th in the second one.  I felt good heading into the second ladies moto, but for some reason we where held on the line for a long time, then came the rain and more rain and being soaked and great track turning into a slick, my confidence in riding went down and thoughts of Brooks came back.  Finally the gate dropped and I was in third till I went down.  Unfortunately I went down at the bottom of a hill and with no momentum and it being slick it took a long time to get up it.  I did manage to gain one position back but that was it.  So I still need experience in rain, slick riding, but think if the races keep getting hit by rain I should get the hang of it.  All in all it was a great time and loved the track when there was traction.  I have started to get better with the ruts and using them to my advantage; along with getting better starts, which is an advantage.  Next SOAB in Taber…

WRMA ROUND 2  - …it doesn’t do me any good if I’m not being pushed to be better

Well the track was a little wet but rutted up not too badly in the morning and had good traction.  I talked to a few people about the last round and all the crashed that had happened in the class I was in and was convinced to move to the vet junior class which I placed 15th in the first moto.  As for the ladies A I placed second.

With only three ladies in the A class and such difference in skill level between us; unless one of us fell you knew at the gate who was placing what.  With no push for ladies to move up to the A class I made a decision that its nice to get a trophy, but it doesn’t do me any good if I’m not being pushed to be better.  Now maybe in part it’s just me but the ladies A race is feeling more like a practice then a race.  I feel I need more of a push to get better and thought that a different class might be the way to go.  So, I picked the 250 beginner class to do for the second moto, instead of the ladies A. I had a blast and had some of the best racing I’ve ever had ans also finished in 15th.

I would like to thank all of my sponsors for their support and understanding in this change in classes, for the WRMA spring series.  Thanks to Dunlop, SMX, GoPro, Girlyz, 4stroke, Fuel, Pivot works, Ready racing, Vortex, 661, O’neal, MXBB, Driven, Ap racing, MX mega store, Old Hill Oils Ltd, and weapons mx

Round 3 of the SOAB series in Brooks, AB

I knew before this race there is so much I need to still learn about motocross and racing, but this race just proved it!

Now I know mud is part of racing but my first mud race I broke my foot and this would really be my second experience with mud so keep that in mind while reading.

My first thought on arrival where, its looking a really wet, with little lakes, but with assurance that it would be a lot drier and ride able in the morning I signed in. Then on the walk around I was thinking a jet ski would be better and this would be a deep rutted race.

Awaking from my dreams of drowning on the track, I took another walk around the track, thinking its not looking all that much drier then last night.  For the practice a section was taken out and then put in for the races, which was a bit of a surprise to most riders when they came around the corner for the first time.  It was a very one lined race, but ride able.  Going out of the line gave you a free ride over the handle bars, which was fun to watch as it was slow motion in most cases then fast.  Right before intermission came more rain which turned the one line into a slick line.  With girls in my class having ridden their whole lives struggling with the track; my, one year, of riding really showed.  Not knowing really how to ride in the conditions and being every time I tried to ride I went sideways, then would have to get straight and fight out of the muck I’d gotten stuck in; I finally just clutch the bike around the track for the most part to take the checkered.  It really killed my confidence, to the point where I wasn’t even going to do my last junior B moto, but I did very nervously finishing my laps and very glad I did.

All in all it was a great weekend.

Ladies 7th in both motos

Junior B 16th in both motos

Saturday May 3, WRMA RD1 and it showed with the carnage.

People being taken out in the practice just as much as the races and as the day went on the track got rougher and so did the crashes.  Uninjured myself, but surprised in the actions of some riders in the practice.  I fear that it scared a few people away from racing this local event at least for the spring.

Still struggling with suspension settings and the starting crashes of others, it was more of a victory for me to just finish.  The Vet class I managed a constant 10th and for the Ladies a first overall, which was only due to the misfortune of others being injured or bike failure.  So here is hoping for a speedy recovery to my fellow racers who where injured during this event, your competition is missed.

Sunday May 4, SOAB in Medicine Hat

Leaving straight from the WRMA event off to Medicine Hat, which is about a 2 ½ hrs drive.  I arrived in time for evening sign in; a quick walk around the track and some time to hear about the day practice before sleeping.

After my three laps of practice I was a little discouraged to see that you could see a big difference between the ones who had practiced Saturday and the ones who didn’t, but that is what it is.  With surprise in the first Ladies moto I managed 6th and keep in 6th for the second moto too.  The Junior class was more carnage on the starts and during the race, I managed a 21st in the first race but 18th in the second one.

Just happy to have finished rubber side down and learn from this weekend.  It is only spring and the start to my second year of racing, so still have lots to learn.
