Growing up in San Clemente, CA, a little surfing town, there was nothing I wanted more than to be a Roxy girl. As cliche as it may sound, it is one hundred percent true. I remember going to bed each night wondering what it would be like to wake up and be part of such an amazing company with such great clothes. These were my thoughts in Elementary school. I remember looking at the different Roxy ads and seeing girls such as Rachael Greff and Veronica Kay gracing the covers of my notebooks, mini stickers, and various tags that I would collect from the clothing that I would beg my mom to buy for me.

The first contest I did was the Roxy Wahine Classic located just minutes from my house at San Onofre, CA. Attending the pre party was probably one of the greatest nights of my life. Being surrounded by my surf heroes, such as Rachael, VK, Kassia and Megan was honestly overwhelming and I still have the photos of me with the girls and the huge smile I had planted on my face the entire night. The event was everything that I had imagined; the whole family, Mom, Dad, and sisters, (sans brother), woke up at the crack of dawn to go and wait in the ever long line down at SanO. I remember telling myself that I would sleep once I got into the car but the anticipation to surf in a real Roxy event kept me awake and singing in the car with my sisters until we finally made it down to the dirty, dusty path of SanO. The entire day was pure bliss. I still look back and laugh at how much of a dork I was, well still am. However, that day would change my entire life, and looking back, that first contest was a paving stone for the life that I live today.

Since I first joined the Roxy Ohana in 2000, both my surfing, my spirit, and my overall life has changed and has grown durastically. I have since graduated from San Clemente High School where I was captain of the Surf Team for both my Junior and Senior Year. I treasured each individual on our National Champion team and made such great memories with everyone. My Junior Year of High School, we won the Roxy Lisa Andersen Challenge down at SanO during the Wahine Classic and I know that each of the girls felt on top of the world because of it. Roxy has taken part in so much of what I do at home and at school, not just in my surfing.

Aside from surfing, I am apart of a wide variety of organizations. I have been dancing hula since the young age of eight and have been part of various Halaus. Currently, I dance with Halau Hula Lani Ola with my two sisters, and fellow Roxy girls, as well as my mom. Being able to take part in such a spiritual and culture enriched activity keeps me close to my Hawaiian heritage and keeps the aloha spirirt within me alive. I also grew up paddling outrigger canoes with Dana Point Outrigger and found the exercise and strength I got for my surfing from it extremely rewarding.

I have taken much of my free time toward working with Assisteens Auxiliary, a non-profit charity league based out of Orange County. My Senior Year of High School, I was chariman of the organization and found donating back to the community extremely rewarding. Aside from Asissteens, I have worked extensively with Surfer's Healing, another nonprofit organization that enables children with Autism the ability to go surfing in the warm waters of Hawaii, the chilly (but sometimes warm) oceans of California, and back on the East Coast. Being able to see the smiles on each child's face brings out a feeling that only you can feel when accomplishing such a huge goal.

I try to take as much time as I can practicing yoga at my local studio and love the flexability and endurance that it enables me with. However, surfing is truly my passion and I find it always to warm my heart and spirit the most. I find being in the water being more familiar to me than being on land.

For the next couple of years, I plan to do as much traveling as possible. There is nothing I love more than to trek the globe in search of new places, new faces, and new experiences. Although I have mostly shortboarded in the past, I have found that longboarding is more of my preferance. However, every now and then there is nothing more fun than to do the hard, sharper turns on a shortboard. The gracefulness and the beauty of longboarding has captured me. Surfing and Roxy has taken me to such amazing places, whether it be Australia, Costa Rica, Hawaii, and even New York. There is nothing I look more forward to than seeing a different place from the last. So, for now, I'm just mapping out where to go to next!

Roxy has changed my life and being able to be a spokesperson for the company has truly made my dreams come true. The company, the people who work there, and it's riders all embody the same zest for life and each one of them truly captures the Aloha Spirit, regardless of where they are from. Any time of day, each of these amazing girls have a smile that comes from within and truly are beautiful on the inside and out. Roxy has been a second family to me and all of my travels, experiences, events, triumphs, and sometimes hardships have made me grown even closer with my surfing and has allowed me to learn more about myself.

Looking back, I'm still that elementary schooler hunting down the latest Roxy gear and dreaming how one day, just maybe, I'd be a Roxy girl. My dream has in fact become a reality.
