You train hard in the doom and gloom of the cold and the scorching heat trying to motivate yourself to get out and ride the bike. It’s tough. It doesn’t end there. You then work your tits off, save every penny possible to ensure you have the right equipment on your ride, no expense spared, rather spend it on the bike than yourself .
Now you are hoping everything will fall into place, at that first race right? You turn up track side and already you are on tip toes in the car park spotting riders who you know regularly take slices out of your run times. Looking at the start list and those names are there again, stomach dropping feeling isn’t it? So what makes the difference between them winning on the day and you winning?
While concentrating on all of the above you have forgotten perhaps the most important factor there is… Your mental performance
Have you been training your mind? That 6 inches (no not that 6 inches) between your ears, has a lot to answer for these days. Now it has been shown and proven that your mental performance can be trained and worked on to give YOU that extra edge that you need over other competitors to consistently be at the top of your game. The brain is like a muscle and as such can be trained and taught “skills”, to make it perform at the same rate as the highly toned athletic body
You need to set yourself goals for the coming season and your sporting career. You need to put in hard work and dedication as well as physical training. The more you are going to put in the more you will get out.
