We had to take a pass on Round 5....

Will was only a week and a half out from his tonsilectomy and was having some bleeding.  We hated to miss the race as this one included the PeeWee/Mini Parade and a water balloon toss and water fight.  We can't wait for Round 6!

We'll be ready.....

Well, we had a great time at Round 4, racing the Main Track at 3 Palms....

Will took 5th out of 6 in the first moto with no problems.

The second moto started out great!  Will had an awesome holeshot and hit the track running in 3rd place.  He never let off the gas and rear ended 2nd place coming out of the first turn!

He held that place until he had a bad landing right before the finish line jump and knocked his chain off.  We rolled the chain back on and he finished the second moto in 5th place also.

He was running great, so he was very upset to lose his position.  His confidence is coming back since his wreck last season.  He is riding smart and working hard to get to the front.

Next race: Round 5 at the Highlands...

The Austin trip was very nice!  The track was great and the weather held out for us....

The track was pretty tough for the little guys and they had some trouble.  But overall, it went well.

Will was running with his new rear suspension and we were trying to tune it up.  We added a +2 swingarm and a fully adjustable Elka long travel shock.  When he managed to land on the rear end, he said it was like air!!!  He loved it.  I am now wanting to put them on the front....

He was also wearing his new SteelMX goggles (Sponsor).  They fit his helmet well and he liked them.  Thanks to SteelMX for a great product!!!!

Will had a bad landing on "Godzilla", the biggest, baddest jump.  He bit his tongue pretty badly, but will only be sore for a few days.  That slowed him down a bit and he was satisfied to just cruise through the second moto to take 7th.  The track was way tough for the PeeWees.  It was a great track for the more experienced riders, though it did eat some of them also!!!  Some nasty wrecks this round.

Hopefully, we will do better at Three Palms!  Love that track!!!

Well, we hated to miss round 1 but we had to pass on that one...

Anxious to start the new racing season, we headed to Splendora, TX for round 2 of the GCQRA's Full Throttle Series!  It was great to see all of our friends and have nice weather for the weekend of racing.

This year Will is riding a 2007 50cc DRX2.  It is fully stock with the exception of tires, wheels, handlebar and nerf bars.  It is a great ride, especially with the dual a-arm suspension that his 2006 model lacked.  We are working to upgrade the suspension soon, just need funding...(hospital bills for his 3 years of cancer treatment are still rolling in.)  Protective gear comes first and I just ordered the Leatt Brace and kidney belt.

Well as far as the race went, it was great!!!  The 6 riders in the Sr. PeeWee class put on an awesome show.  The first moto went well and most everyone held their position throughout the race.  The results were as expected.  But the second moto was another story.....

One of the boys that ran up front during the first moto, lost it on the whoops.  This set him back where he could not regain his position.  The leader was running his own race far ahead of the pack; where the real racing action was taking place... 2nd through 5th were battling it out all the way!

Will was running in 4th place but managed to pass his arch nemisis, Avery!  I was so excited for him.  But she took her spot back shortly.  Will had the 5th place rider running close behind when he failed to wind up the DRR before a huge hill climb, Will got passed up the hill and fell to 5th.  Will stayed on his tail and passed him the first chance he had...That left Avery in his sites once again!  At one turn in the middle of the track, she and the others would take the outside of the turn which was smooth, Will kept taking the inside with the kicker and passed Avery once again....It was where he passed her the first time.  A very rough route that kept paying off for him!  He held 3rd place a little longer that time, but she managed to slide under him in a turn.

This was the last lap, and Will needed to hang on to 4th place.  With the little boy in 5th closing the gap before the hill climb, I ran to the straight away leading to it and coached Will to Pin It!  He had been letting off the gas for some rough dips that got him passed earlier.  Well this time he held the throttle down, toughed out the dips and pulled up the hill hanging on to finish 4th!

What a great race!  I didn't even mention the mid air pass on the first lap between Avery and Weston...Awesome!  I wish I'd had my video camera for that one.

These little warriors are so much fun to watch and I'm so fortunate to be involved with them.  It is a great experience!

Now, we prepare for the next battle, Austin / Del Valle on March 30th....See you there!

Well, we have really enjoyed our first season of racing!  Will has Loved MX since his first day riding on a track.  We began following the GCQRA about halfway through the 2007 season.  We have learned so much and Will has worked very hard to become familiar with all the new tracks.

When he ran his first race, he was right up there with the top 2 riders in the Jr. PeeWee class.  He came in 3rd out of 5 riders, and has remained a threat to them throughout the season.  We will be working to get him in first place right off the bat for next year.  He has the Holeshot figured out!  He just needs to realize that the others will still be his friends if he passes them up on the track...He's so considerate...he has no problem blasting past the unknown riders during practices in Beaumont and Conroe!

Anyway, the whole family has enjoyed racing with all of our new friends and look forward to another great year of racing...

See ya'll at the tracks!

Well, we had another weather inspired race relocation, once again....  It seems that every race has been threatened by rainy weather and now, hurricane Humberto!  Beaumont MX was hammered with heavy rain and high winds, this past weekend.  This forced the GCQRA Round 8 to be relocated to 290 Cycle World in Waller, TX.

Will did great this race!  He came in 3rd again, but his confidence level has come way up.  He ran his practice without me leading him and didn't have a change of heart like last time...  He was ready to go this time!  This was his second race, ever.  We are very proud of him!

What a weekend!!!

We headed out for the GCQRA's Round 7 on Friday afternoon....

We made the Friday evening practice and made the rounds to meet some of those we have met online.  It was a great time and we couldn't wait for the race on Saturday Night.  We locked up the trailer for the night and headed home.  (90 miles)

Saturday we drove back to Crosby, TX and found the track quite wet from a "scattered" rain shower that happened to park itself over the track!  What a mess...  Everyone was getting set up when another shower came through and finished off the track.  Guess what...Rained Out...AGAIN!

Will got a long look on his face and said, "I'm not going to get to ride my first race, again?"  And he started to cry...  I felt so bad, but this is Southeast Texas and heavy summer rains are common.

As we packed up, the association heads were trying to salvage the weekend by finding another track willing to host us.  After 30 minuntes, we had a taker!  Splendora MX park told us to "Come On!"  You should have seen the caravan that hit that little, Texas, farm to market road!

Saturday evening, Splendora MX park was filled with the sound of roaring Quads hitting the track for a hurried practice session....  We made a few laps on the track, packed up AGAIN and headed to Livingston to stay with family for the night...

Will and I got off to a slow start Sunday morning and made it to the 7am sign in around 8am...  Everyone was worn out from all the traveling and stress of moving event locations.  It was a test of everyone's dedication, for sure.

With this being Will's first official race, there were a few things that we "learned".  First being that we missed the Tech inspection, so we had to get that done very quickly with Will's class running FIRST!  They passed him as his number was being called to get to the gate.  When we get there, Will is nervous and decides that he "Doesn't" want to race.....!!!!!  Thinking quickly, I tell him that it is just like practice.  He asks, "this is just practice?"  I say, "Yeah, that's it, it's just practice!"  And he lined up at the gate, ready for "practice"!  What a time to change his mind.....

With 5 little racers ready to go, the gate dropped and off they went!  Will pretty much had the track to himself.  Two were well ahead and two were well behind him....  With the first moto done, Will had taken third place.  When he came off the track, I told him, "that was some great racing man...!"  He said, "That was the Race!!!!!"  Ooooops!  He caught me....  I said, "Yep, that was it."  He said, "That wasn't bad!"  So, he had faced his fears, with a little help from Dad.  But now he was rearing to go for the second moto...

Lined up for the second moto, Will was anxious to "Give it the Gas!"  When the gate dropped, Will was right in the mix...  He was side by side with the two leaders of the first moto.  Once on the track, the first three riders were less than a second apart and the two in front, were battling for first.  Will, in third again, was right on their tails!  It was a great race for these little riders.

After waiting for the next 15 or so motos to run.....Will finally got his trophy!  What a great end to a crazy weekend of racing...  His smile was worth a Million Dollars!!!!  He had truly "earned" that trophy.  All those little riders had this weekend.  Just being able to hang in there with the rain-out, traveling and extra practices was something else!

I now know how all the parents of these little racers felt at their first race....  It is worth all the effort and expense, when you see them hold their first trophy.  That "Million Dollar Smile" is truly something to behold......

I'd like to also mention what a wonderful group of people we have met so far...!  They have helped us so much, even without our asking.  When they see something that needs attention, they quickly offer aid to ensure that we have a great experience in racing.  Thanks to all of our new Friends in the GCQRA!  Ya'll are the best....

Will and Family

The Austin/Del Valle race was canceled because of the rain.

Next race will be at the Highlands MX Park near Houston, TX.  I will try again!

We did go ahead and go to Austin to visit some family there and we had a blast, even though the race was canceled.

Give it the Gas,

Will/Dad

Hello, and welcome to my page!

Right now I am very excited about my first race.  I will be headed Austin/DelValle MX Park on Friday, to ride in the Gulf Coast Quad Racing Association's - Round 6.

Since this is my first race and I'm only 5, I will be in the Jr. PeeWee Class.  Next year I'll move up to the Sr. PeeWee.

My favorite thing to do is ride my 4 wheelers.  My favorite is my new DRR DRX50.  I call it my Racing 4 Wheeler!  I also have a Kazuma 90 for trail riding.  I like it because I can change the gears and backup.  That is nice on the trails and riding around my Grand-dad's camp.

Please check back soon to see how I do this weekend...

See Ya'

Will
