GCQRA Full Throttle Series, Round 2

Well, we hated to miss round 1 but we had to pass on that one...

Anxious to start the new racing season, we headed to Splendora, TX for round 2 of the GCQRA's Full Throttle Series!  It was great to see all of our friends and have nice weather for the weekend of racing.

This year Will is riding a 2007 50cc DRX2.  It is fully stock with the exception of tires, wheels, handlebar and nerf bars.  It is a great ride, especially with the dual a-arm suspension that his 2006 model lacked.  We are working to upgrade the suspension soon, just need funding...(hospital bills for his 3 years of cancer treatment are still rolling in.)  Protective gear comes first and I just ordered the Leatt Brace and kidney belt.

Well as far as the race went, it was great!!!  The 6 riders in the Sr. PeeWee class put on an awesome show.  The first moto went well and most everyone held their position throughout the race.  The results were as expected.  But the second moto was another story.....

One of the boys that ran up front during the first moto, lost it on the whoops.  This set him back where he could not regain his position.  The leader was running his own race far ahead of the pack; where the real racing action was taking place... 2nd through 5th were battling it out all the way!

Will was running in 4th place but managed to pass his arch nemisis, Avery!  I was so excited for him.  But she took her spot back shortly.  Will had the 5th place rider running close behind when he failed to wind up the DRR before a huge hill climb, Will got passed up the hill and fell to 5th.  Will stayed on his tail and passed him the first chance he had...That left Avery in his sites once again!  At one turn in the middle of the track, she and the others would take the outside of the turn which was smooth, Will kept taking the inside with the kicker and passed Avery once again....It was where he passed her the first time.  A very rough route that kept paying off for him!  He held 3rd place a little longer that time, but she managed to slide under him in a turn.

This was the last lap, and Will needed to hang on to 4th place.  With the little boy in 5th closing the gap before the hill climb, I ran to the straight away leading to it and coached Will to Pin It!  He had been letting off the gas for some rough dips that got him passed earlier.  Well this time he held the throttle down, toughed out the dips and pulled up the hill hanging on to finish 4th!

What a great race!  I didn't even mention the mid air pass on the first lap between Avery and Weston...Awesome!  I wish I'd had my video camera for that one.

These little warriors are so much fun to watch and I'm so fortunate to be involved with them.  It is a great experience!

Now, we prepare for the next battle, Austin / Del Valle on March 30th....See you there!

Got something to say?
