Q&A - Personal

Why do you compete?

I think it must be in my blood. I've always had a passion for two wheels and dirt and have always loved racing in any form. I think I'm driven to compete and win thanks to many years of losing as I was growing up. I guess I must feel like I lost out on a lot during my childhood, so maybe I'm trying to make up for lost time.

Why do you like this sport?

I like the balance of speed, power and grace involved in motorcycle racing. Too much of one and not enough of another could spell disaster.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I don't really want to grow up per se if that means giving up my ferver for life and wanting to take in as much as I can. I want to view life as an adventure for my wife, kids and I that we are exploring together. I want to teach my kids how to enjoy every moment of their lives and to live their dreams.

Music?

I've played electric guitar since I was 13, so music is a huge part of my life. I love the diversity of music available to appreciate. As a musician, I can't just listen to any run of the mill radio pop, which is why satellite radio is so cool. I usually go from Modern Rock to Jazz to Blues to Country to Bluegrass on any given day.

What inspires you to compete?

The allure of overcoming adversity and mental/physical fatigue to capture a win is what ultimately drives me. Performing under these conditions shows true toughness.

I'm an Arizona native who enjoys everything the outdoors in this great state has to offer. When I'm not racing off-road in the AMRA series, I'm usually hanging out with my beautiful wife and amazing kids. We like to camp, ride motorcycles and race BMX together.

I grew up racing BMX as a kid, then migrated to cross-country Mountain Bike racing in the 1990s. I bought my first dirt bike in 2002 (2002 Suzuki DR-Z400). Being a Mountain Biker, I was pretty much a singletrack snob. Boy was that DRZ a handful in the singletrack! The suspension was pretty awful on that bike as well. It was my first dirt bike, so I didn't really know any better... until my good friend Cody let me ride his 2003 Yamaha YZ-250F. I sold the DRZ and thus the beginning of my "Yamaha years".

I bought a 2004 Yamaha YZ-250F, then went to a 2005 YZ125 and finally to a 2006 YZ250. Now I'm a hardcore 2 stroke fan.

Recently I just discovered the joys of KTM 2 strokes and purchased a 2008 200XC. I'm hooked!
