WMRRA 6/10-6/11
Better late than never, well the race weekend started of right with me getting some good seat time at the AF track day on the Friday before the races. I was starting to build consistency and more confidence which I had lacked in the previous race weekend. I guess I really haven`t shaken off the rust from last season. On Saturday (6/10) my team and I were struggling to get our pit set up because the track was also hosting a car shoot out and a lot of the car racers had stored their cars in the pits for use later that night......well long story short there were no pit spaces. Finally we were able to squeeze into a tiny spot next to another racer who didn`t show up for the Saturday race. With all that mess over with we were finally able to get our bikes and gear teched but like everyone else we were late to the tech lines which cause them to be kinda long. So we missed the first practice session, oh well this gave us enough time to properly set up and get our tire warmers on and give the bikes the once over. For the first heat I was gridded in the second row and got a pretty terrible start (starts are not my strong point!) and ended up somewhere around 15-20 place. I made up ground fairly quick, by turn 2 I was somewhere in the top 10. The race went fairly good from there I was showing consistency from the day before and was able to pass about 3 riders and was creeping up on a few more. As the laps were winding down I started getting in to a groove and decided to push a little more to try and get in front of the 2 riders ahead of me. Well I was hoping to get a good drive thru turns 5, 6, and 7 and even up on turn 8 and try and pass on turn 9...I was a good plan too bad I didn`t make it out of turn 5. Some how I upset the chassis and had to stand the bike back up and drove it in the gravel run off, I almost had it out and was thinking well I just put it back on the track and finish this race till I hit a rather deep patch of gravel that suddenly stopped the bike and threw me forward. I ended up breaking my collar bone and was done for the weekend. The bike sustained some damage but hopefully it`s nothing that I can`t fix by the next race weekend. Hopeful my collar bone will also heal by then!
