Lawrence nuts up and toughs out the most difficult Monster Energy Supercross conditions yet this season to record his first career SX win
CORONA, Calif., (Jan. 29, 2008) – Monster Energy-backed Jason Lawrence (Yamaha of Troy) topped a field of the world’s premier Lites class racers this past weekend in San Francisco, winning his first-ever main event on the Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, tour.
Lawrence, 20, rode aggressively from start to finish, taking the lead from Brett Metcalfe and Tommy Hahn on the first lap and then led every lap of the rain abbreviated ten-lap contest. During the race Lawrence made numerous saves that brought the 37,000-plus San Franciscans out of their seats in approval.
“I have to give it up to Monster and, especially, the whole Yamaha of Troy team,” said Lawrence. “I know I give those guys some trouble sometimes, but just because I want a result like this.”
Lawrence got to the main by virtue of a 3rd place finish in his heat race. With monsoon-like conditions facing him, Lawrence buckled down and rode the race of his life to date to take the win. In fact, it was raining so hard that Lawrence got cleaner as the race went on. But that was all for not as YoT team manager Chris McAvoy tackled Lawrence in the mud in celebration after Lawrence crossed the finish line.
“Now we’re going back to Anaheim so I can try and revenge (meaning “avenge”) myself,” said Lawrence on the podium. “I probably feel I should have won there (Anaheim) the last two times.”
Next up for Monster Energy Supercross is the Anaheim (Calif.) 3 round back at Angels Stadium (Feb. 2).

Brett Metcalfe makes the podium with 3rd place finish while rookie teammate Austin Stroupe battles for 5th place overall Lites class finish
CORONA, Calif., (Jan. 29, 2008) – Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Brett Metcalfe got things going early at San Francisco’s AT&T Ballpark, winning his heat race and taking a bunch of momentum into the Lites class main event despite having to battle torrential rains that plagued this past weekend’s supercross event, Round Four of Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship.
With the lead rider (Jason Lawrence) in his sights, Metcalfe – who had 2nd place in the bag – momentarily slowed a bit when he reportedly mistook the white flag to be the checkers. This allowed Thomas Hahn to pass him for 2nd place, but Metcalfe was still able to hold on and make the podium (3rd).
“The weather was crazy, but I actually had a lot of fun out there,” said Metcalfe. “The guys at Pro Circuit had my KX250F dialed and I think we could have won it had I not made a few mistakes. Glad we were at least able to make the podium. I’m looking forward to hopefully doing that again here in Anaheim this weekend.”
Metcalfe’s Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki teammate, Austin Stroupe, was on the podium pace as well, running in 3rd place during the early portions of the Lites class final after ramping up for the main event by finishing 2nd in heat No. 2. And though a couple bobbles would cost Stroupe a spot on the podium with Metcalfe, he did manage to salvage a respectable 5th place overall finish.
Through four Western Region Lites races Metcalfe is in 5th place in the standings and Stroupe is in 8th – just seven points outside the top four.
Next up for the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team is Round Five of 2008 Monster Energy Supercross at Anaheim’s, Calif., Angels Stadium (Feb. 2).

Langston (Yamaha) comes blazing back into the Supercross class’ top five after two not-so-great performances at rounds two and three of Monster SX
CORONA, Calif., (Jan. 29, 2008) – Monster Energy’s Grant Langston (Yamaha) used his championship Outdoor National MX skills to his advantage in the mud-clogged Supercross class main event at San Francisco’s AT&T Park this past Saturday, Round Four of 2008 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship.
Langston, the reigning AMA Outdoor National MX champ, overcame an early heat race crash to put up a heroic run that had him all the way up to 4th place – only to cross rut and crash again in the same spot – settling for the 6th place transfer spot.
In the Supercross class main event, shortened from 20 laps to 15 due to the heavy rain, Langston got a mid pack start and had moved up rapidly into the top ten by the end of the second lap when he crashed and fell back to near last place. He managed to get his YZ450F back on the track and into contention quickly, making up seven places in the next two laps which put him a click away from the top ten.
“It certainly was wild out there,” said Langston. “I’d gone down a couple times in my heat race, but knew everyone else was having difficulties as well and it was possible to pick up places in a hurry. So I was pushing it early when I went down and decided it’d be best to try and keep it upright and salvage some points.
“I was able to make it back into the top ten and eventually to 5th. This does a lot to set ourselves up for a run at the podium at the last Anaheim race this weekend.”
Langston, who’d finished 20th and 18th in the previous to Supercross class main events, moved into 12th place overall in the standings – just two points out of the top ten.
Next up for Monster Energy’s Grant Langston is Anaheim 3 at Angels Stadium, Feb. 2, Round Five of Monster Energy Supercross.

Tucker Hibbert (SnoCross), Nate Holland (Boarder X) and Sarah Burke (Women’s Skier SuperPipe) are on top of the world with Winter X event wins
CORONA, Calif., (Jan. 28, 2008) – Monster Energy’s Tucker Hibbert, Nate Holland and Sarah Burke represented on an large scale this past week/weekend in Aspen, Colo. The three were crowned “Champions” in the biggest event of the year for snow-based action sports, ESPN’s Winter X 12.
“Congrats are in order for Tucker, Nate and Sarah,” said John Lee, Director of Sports Marketing for Monster Energy. “All Monster Energy athletes represented the brand well in Aspen. Tucker, Nate and Sarah stepped it up in their respective sports and brought home the gold. Well done.”
Beginning with SnoCross, Hibbert, the defending Winter X champion in the event, was unstoppable. He pulled the holeshot and won his heat race with ease and was everybody’s short list as the guy to beat in Saturday’s main event. In addition, Hibbert ran ESPN’s “On Board” camera, which featured a clear shot of Hibbert, his Arctic Cat sled and the Monster M-claw logo through out the competition.
“It’s gonna take a great start – get out fast and come away clean,” said Hibbert prior to the start of the SnoCross main event.
With that Hibbert chose the very inside starting spot for the main. And when the green flag flew, Hibbert taped the throttle on his SnoPro 600 and wheelied nearly the entire X Games SnoCross straight, pulling the holeshot in snowmobiling’s premier event of the year.
Barely able to hear the announcers on TV or at the venue (Buttermilk Mountain) above the din of the screaming two-stroke (and one four-stroke) snowmobile engines, Hibbert quickly built a 3.5 second lead by lap five of the 25-lap contest. Running flawlessly, his lead grew to 9.5 seconds by lap 15. And towards the end of the race about the only thing announcer Paul Page could add was “will Hibbert beat last year’s winning time of 16 seconds?”
That’s domination.
“I knew that inside starting gate pick was risky, but it worked for us in the qualifier and I knew if I didn’t get the holeshot there was a good chance I’d come out in the top three,” said Hibbert from the podium, can of Original Monster in hand and gold medal around his neck. “Thanks to Monster Energy and my team. I’m pumped.”
On the Boarder X course Holland was very familiar with the path to the top of the podium. The two-time defending champion knows little else than winning the most important medal in the sport. And he stepped up and stomped through to the finish again in a highly-exciting, crash laden final.
“I don’t know I’m going to win here,” said Holland. “I just want to win here – more than anywhere else.”
Holland, 29, played it smart on the new Boarder X course that was some 30 seconds longer than last year’s course. He got a solid start and set his sites on Seth Wescott, who pulled the holeshot and took the early lead. Around midway through the course Holland set up Wescott and passed him, never having to look back again on his way to the checkers.
“I wasn’t getting great starts today,” said Holland. “But I was being patient. I thought ‘Stay back, stay back,’ then once it spaced out I started whipping the horse. I saw who I needed to beat right in front of me, so the effort went out the roof. I was pumping as hard as I could. Every ounce of energy went into it. Then I got out in front and I was like ‘Okay, now just stay low. They’re going to be playing the same game as me.’
“Luckily my board was rocking and they couldn’t catch me.”
Noteworthy from Boarder X: Monster Energy’s Shaun Palmer tried to double up on the Skier X and Boarder X and, mainly due to the considerably longer run times, reports from his coach stated that Palmer burnt his legs out. Because of this he didn’t qualify for either main event – missing Boarder X by one position in his qualifier.
In the SuperPipe Monster Energy’s Burke defended her title on skis, defeating 2nd place Mirjam Jaeger quite handily, 92.0 to 81.33. The 25-year-old Burke was so dominant that her title of the world’s female halfpipe skier looks to be a lock for some time to come.
“The first (gold) felt amazing since it was something I wanted for so long,” said Burke of her SuperPipe win last year in Aspen. “But the second feels pretty damn good.”
Burke’s 900 on the first hit, couple with a lofty alley-oop 540 (w/ grab) and punctuated with a big 720 on her final hit put her in a class well beyond what anyone would catch.
Other noteworthy Monster Energy performances at Winter X 12 included: Mikkel Bang placed 8th in men’s Snowboard Slopestyle; Leanne Pelosi placed 10th in women’s Snowboard Slopestyle; Peter Olenick placed 10th in men’s Skier Slopestyle; Danny Kass placed 7th in men’s Snowboard SuperPipe and Dingo got some TV time watching Kass’ dog, Big Vern.
There were also a few injuries to be noted which were: Elena Hight (women’s snowboard pipe), Corey Vanular (skier slopestyle), TJ Schiller (skier slopestyle), Chris Burandt (freestyle snowmobile), and Priscilla Levac (women’s snowboard slopestyle). We wish you all a speedy recovery!

Thief River Falls, Minn. (Jan. 29, 2008) - Untouchable domination was the theme for Monster Energy/Arctic Cat’s Tucker Hibbert at ESPN’s Winter X Games 12. Saturday night, millions of viewers worldwide witnessed Hibbert add medal number seven to his collection in the longest Winter X Games
snocross final in history.
In round one of qualifying Friday night, Hibbert took the hole-shot and led all eight laps to lock in the coveted number one qualifying position for the final. After two rounds of qualifying, 20 riders were cut and the stage was set for a 12-rider, 25-lap final event.
Saturday night, Hibbert not only won the final, he flat out dominated it. His Monster Energy/Arctic Cat hooked up on the start and ripped the hole-shot, leaving his competition in the snow dust. He rode flawless and incredibly smooth every lap to take his third gold medal 16 seconds ahead of silver medalist,
Brett Turcotte. This marks Hibbert’s second dominating Winter X Games run in a row. Last year, he led 15 of the 18 laps and finished an impressive 15 seconds ahead of second place.
Hibbert has only one race left on his snocross schedule this season before switching gears to motocross. His final race is in Vernon, New York Feb. 9-10 where last year he made history by winning all six qualifiers and both final events. To keep up with Hibbert’s fast life, check out www.tucker-hibbert.com.
Winter X Games Stats:
• Ninth appearance at ESPN’s Winter X Games
• Medals:
• 2008: Gold • 2007: Gold • 2005: Silver • 2004: Silver • 2003: Bronze
• 2002: Silver • 2000: Gold
Tucker Hibbert – #68 Monster Energy/Arctic Cat:
“This is unbelievable. I couldn’t ask for anything more. My Monster Energy/Arctic Cat with the Speedwerx clutching launched off the start, into the first corner and into the lead. My sled ran perfect the entire race. The whole crew has been working
so hard and has my sled dialed. We put everything we got into this event so it feels great to see it pay off.
The Winter X Games is truly a first class event and I’m honored to be a part of it. They raised the bar this year with a 25-lap event but I’m ready for an even longer course and race. I felt strong the entire race. This is my job so there is no excuse not to be in shape and ready for a long final.
I have to thank my crew, who never stops working, and all the amazing companies that support me. I am so blessed.”

Monster Energy/Kawasaki’s Destry Abbott Opens The AMA Hare & Hound Series With A Podium Finish
Abbott pilots his Kawasaki KLX to a 2nd place finish @ the Lucerne (Calif.) AMA Hare & Hound race – the series’ opening round
CORONA, Calif., (Jan. 28, 2008) – Monster Energy/Kawasaki’s Destry Abbott upped the ante on his 8th place finish at the recent opening round World Off Road Championship Series with a season-opening 2nd place podium finish at the AMA’s Hare & Hound opener in Lucerne, Calif.
Here’s Abbott’s account of the event:
“The desert is definitely one of the best places to be after it rains! I was really excited about today, and it was my first H&H on my new KLX. When the banner went up, just after 9:30, we all shut our motors off waiting for it to drop. The banner fell and I was wide open for the first mile, and then we started to get into some big whoops. A few miles out, I settled into 3rd behind Kamo and Pearson. I was keying off Kamo until I realized David Pearson started to put some time on us. Somewhere around the 6-mile point, I made the pass on Kamo and was about 30-seconds back from David. It took a good 20-miles before I got within 5- seconds of Pearson, and was happy there. Since the riding conditions were perfect I wasn’t too worried about making the pass, because we were both riding a really good pace.
I followed him into the first pit, but I actually lost another 10-seconds right before it. Just as I was coming in for gas, Pearson was done and off. The second loop is always my favorite section, since it’s usually more technical and harder. When I took off I was still feeling really good, but I made my first mistake not too far out. I went off the trail in a really rocky off-camber section, and lost some time getting back on. Of course, after that, I started to really pick it up and went down when I lost the front end on a high-speed corner. I was a little mad at myself, at this point, since I couldn’t see David anymore.
The second loop really had some awesome tight sections, but it had some really fast stuff too (which I wasn’t a big fan of). It’s really hard to make up any time on someone when we’re both in last gear going across a valley. At one of the checks, I asked how far I was behind and they said 2 minutes. That’s wasn’t the answer I was hoping to hear! After that, I really pushed it and got in a good flow again. By the time I made it to the finish, I was told I lost by 30-seconds. I was a little bummed, but we still have a long ways to go before the year is over.
I had a great time today with today's riding conditions. I actually liked the first loop more, since it didn’t have as many valleys. I was hoping the second loop wasn’t going to have as many valleys as it did. The club did a great job with the course though! As far as the race goes, I didn’t win, but David rode a smart race and didn’t make any mistakes. I have a feeling we’re going to have a lot of close battles this year! It should be a great time.”
Next up for Destry Abbott and the Monster Energy/Kawasaki off road team is round two of the AMA Hare & Hound Series at Red Mountain, Calif.

Langston (Yamaha) comes blazing back into the Supercross class’ top five after two not-so-great performances at rounds two and three of Monster SX
CORONA, Calif., (Jan. 28, 2008) – Monster Energy’s Grant Langston (Yamaha) used his championship Outdoor National MX skills to his advantage in the mud-clogged Supercross class main event at San Francisco’s AT&T Park this past Saturday, Round Four of 2008 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship.

M-Claw Logo Begins To Light Up Winter X In Aspen
Monster Energy athletes descend upon the Jan. 24-27 ESPN Winter X
Games 12, with legions of Monster Army athletes and supporters in tow
CORONA, Calif., (Jan. 24, 2008) – The iconic M-claw logo of Monster
Energy drink and the excellence in terms of athletes that represent
present a formidable team as the action sports community readies
itself for the opening of the 12th annual ESPN Winter X Games in
Aspen, Colo., Jan. 24-27.
“Never before has Monster Energy entered Winter X this stacked with
athletic talent,” said John Lee, Director of Sports Marketing for
Monster Energy. “From boards and skis to sleds and after parties,
Monster Energy’s presence at Winter X 12 will be legendary. We wish
our athletes the best of luck and encourage our Monster Army members
arriving in Aspen to give it up for their leaders.”
Beginning with Snowboard X (aka boardercross), Monster Energy looks to
have a couple spots on the podium covered right out of the gate.
Defending X Games Snowboard X gold medalist, Nate Holland, is back
running the Monster Energy colors, as is all-time Winter X medals
winner Shaun Palmer (4th Snowboard X in ’07).
“With Holland and Palmer it’s going to be a dogfight for the gold,”
said Lee. “Both have the advantage of actual motocross experience –
Palmer at the pro level – which should serve them well in Aspen. I’m
definitely thinking we’ll have two on the box for that one.”
Along the lines of motocross, Monster Energy also has the world’s No.
1-ranked Snocross racer representing with the Claw-M logo, snocross/
motocross star Tucker Hibbert. The defending gold medalist and seven-
time X Games medal winner, Hibbert first struck gold at Winter X in
2000 at the tender age of 15.
“Winter X is the pinnacle of snocross racing,” said Hibbert, who’s won
the last to WPSA tour stops and is the hottest snocross racer heading
into Winter X. “My goal since winning last year at Winter X has been
to defend my gold medal.”
Also rockin’ sleds for Monster Energy will be defending Winter X
Snowmobile Freestyle gold medalist Chris Burandt, along with
snowmobile distance jumping world record holder Paul Thacker. Burandt
will be gunning for his second Winter X Snowmobile Freestyle gold
medal and, along with Thacker - members of the exclusive “Slednecks”
crew - will be competing in a new event ESPN is calling Snowmobile
Speed and Style.
“This is really a dream come true for me,” said Thacker. “For real,
I’m pumped to be representing with Monster at Winter X this week. The
new Speed & Style event should be cool for the fans, allowing us to
really show what can be done on mountain with a sled. People are going
to be into it – big time.”
Moving back to the alpine sports, snowboarding and skiing, Monster
Energy features no less than 16 highly decorated athletes on skis or
snowboards, all representing with the Claw-M logo this week in Aspen.
Leading the M-claw assault on the snowboard Superpipe will be a couple
highly recognizable names. Danny Kass, the two-time Olympic silver
medalist and former Winter X Superpipe gold medalist (2001) and two-
time Olympian Andy Finch. Veterans of the Superpipe, both Kass and
Finch have been instrumental in paving the way for young, up-and-
coming riders while still possessing what it takes to make the podium.
Joining the two aforementioned veterans in the snowboard Superpipe
and representing Monster Energy’s younger guard in the sport is Louie
Vito. Vito arrived on the scene in 2005 and won the USASA National
Open title, along with finishing 2nd at the FIS Junior World
Championships and Burton Australian Open. At 19, the dude flat out
rips and is poised to make a run at this weekend’s Winter X Superpipe
top ten or better.
In the snowboard Slopestyle event Monster Energy’s push with its
product line into the global market will be evident with two
Scandinavian riders. Mikkel Bang, 18, and Eero Niemala, 23. Bang, from
Norway, has been competing on the global snowboard scene since he was
14. This past December he placed 2nd at the Nokia Air & Style comp –
and he very well parlay that momentum a podium at Winter X 12.
Finland’s Niemala was “Transworld Snowboarding Magazine’s” 2005 Rookie
of the Year and was part of the 2007 Transworld Team Challenge gold
medal squad.
Also representing for Monster Energy in the snowboard Slopestyle will
be veteran Winter X competitor Marc Frank Montoya. A personable fan-
favorite in Aspen, Montoya will double as DJ MFM at Monster Energy’s
parties in Aspen where he’ll be joined by the master of ceremonies at
any snowboard function, Kass’ sidekick the Dingo.
The guys snapping into the skis for Monster Energy at Winter X will be
no doubt add to Monster’s dominance on the mountain. Multi-event
(Superpipe, Slopestyle & Big Air) competitors for Monster Energy
include: Aspen’s own Peter Olenick, BC’s TJ Schiller and 18-year-old
ripper Corey Vanular.
“Monster Energy’s men’s Winter X ski lineup is the action sports
equivalent of the New England Patriots’ starting roster,” said Lee.
“Olenick’s the Mayor of Aspen. Schiller has beaten the best. Vanular
stomps his landings and he’s on at least one podium, which is rad
considering he’s coming back from being injured last two seasons.”
On the women’s side of things Monster Energy doesn’t skip a beat as
snowboarders – stylish both on and off the mountain - Leanne Pelosi,
Priscilla Levac and newly acquired Elena Hight will be holding it
down in the Superpipe and Slopestyle competitions.
“Last year Elena was the first girl ever to throw back-to-back 9s in
the pipe was on the podium (3rd) for her efforts. All signs point
toward another podium finish for her,” said Lee. “Leanne’s best
competitions last year came outside Winter X (she was 6th in the ’07
Winter X Slopestyle), so she’s looking to step it up this weekend. And
Priscilla is looking to tap on energy she had a few years ago when she
won the U.S. Open Slopestyle event (’04).”
Finally, it’ll be on the skis where Monster Energy’s women at Winter X
12 really set things on fire. Sarah Burke is the defending gold
medalist in skiing’s premier women’s event at Winter X – the
Superpipe. Burke will be joined by another top ten Superpipe placer
from last year, Kristi Leskinen – the bomb new addition to Monster
Energy’s Winter X lineup.
“Sarah’s quite possibly the most recognizable female skier in the
world and we’re stoked to have her as part of the Monster Army at
Winter X 12,” said Lee. “And Kristi is looking for a breakthrough
moment for her career – which could very well happen this weekend in
Aspen.”

Monster Energy’s Tucker Hibbert Scores Another WPSA National Victory, Sweeping Pro Stock & Open Classes
Hibbert is peaking heading into this weekend’s Winter X Games in Aspen, CO
CORONA, Calif., (Jan. 22, 2008) – Monster Energy’s Tucker Hibbert continued to dominate the World PowerSports Association’s (WPSA) Snowmobile Tour, this past weekend sweeping both the Pro Stock and Open classes in the Jack Link’s West Yellowstone National in Montana.
Hibbert said it was the first race of the season on a 100-percent natural snow track, but heavy snowfall and poor visibility prematurely shut down Sunday’s race, which the team’s an track crew to stick around to finish the remaining races on Monday.
In the Pro Open final on Monday Hibbert got out of the gate poorly and had to race from nearly last place in the 14-lap event to reach the pack. Once there Hibbert was able to get by Ryan Simons on lap ten and extended it for the overall Pro Open class win.
“It was awesome to get my first stock/open sweep of the season and was great to be back in West Yellowstone,” said Hibbert. “These wins give the team and myself so much con¬fidence and extra motivation heading into the Winter X Games this week. Being able to come from behind in the Pro Open final and to win by a good margin really helps me mentally because now I know I can run down the field if I need to. With a 20 lap final event in Aspen, I know no matter where I am off the start I can fight my way to the front.”
This weekend Hibbert and his all-new Arctic Cat SnoPro 600 are on their way to Aspen, Colo., for snocross racing’s biggest event of the year – the Winter X Games. In nine years Hibbert has won six medals at Winter X, including last year’s snocross gold. The race will be broadcast live on ESPN this Saturday evening. Consult your local listings for time and channel.

Hibbert to Defend Snocross Gold Medal at ESPN’s Winter X Games 12
Aspen, Colo. (Jan. 22, 2008) - Monster Energy/Arctic Cat’s Tucker Hibbert is revved up to add another medal to his hardware collection at ESPN’s Winter X Games 12 this week in Aspen, Colo. It’s the ninth appearance for the six-time snocross medalist and he’s the favorite with the stats to back him up. Not only is he the youngest gold medalist in history, he’s the second most decorated snocross athlete in the 32-rider field.
Two rounds of qualifying will narrow down the field to 12 riders for a 20-lap final broadcasted live on ESPN. Last year, Hibbert was the number one qualifier and dominated the final finishing an impressive 15 seconds ahead of second place.
Hibbert and his Monster Energy/Arctic Cat have been tearing up the national snocross tour taking five wins in four events. At the ripe age of 23, Hibbert is already considered a veteran of the sport and the man to beat.
Watch for Hibbert’s blacked out Monster Energy/Arctic Cat with the glowing green “M” claw to be out front under the lights when the best snowmobile racers in the world go for gold Saturday night.

Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Stroupe Earns First Career Supercross Podium in Anaheim
Anaheim, Calif., (January 21, 2008) – In only his third career start, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider Austin Stroupe earned his first career podium finishing third on the 1986 throwback layout at Angel Stadium. Stroupe started off quickly earning the holeshot and leading the first seven laps. His teammate Brett Metcalfe also got a good start and held on to finish fifth in Round 3 of the AMA Western Regional Supercross Lites Championship.
In the Monster Energy® Supercross, an FIM Championship, Timmy Ferry went to the back of the field on the first lap when a rider fell in front of him, but the veteran rider rode a great race to finish sixth. James Stewart did not ride during the evening program because of an injury he suffered during his preseason training.
Monster Energy Kawasaki Under the Tent
Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider Austin Stroupe left Phoenix determined to get to the front of the field. Stroupe set the fourth best time on his Kawasaki KX™250F during practice and finished second in his heat race. The good starting gate pick allowed Stroupe to come out the first turn in the lead, earning a $1,000 bonus for the hole shot. Stroupe went on to lead seven of the 15 laps and crossed the finish line in third to earn his first podium.
“It feels way better than last week,” said Stroupe. “I’m just excited to get going, this was kind of a shock to me. I expected to be up here soon, but this is really good. My Monster Energy KX250F got me to a great start and I just got on it and rode a good seven laps and I was happy about that. It was a good race.”
***
Brett Metcalfe is coming off of a podium finish last week at Phoenix and kept the momentum rolling as he earned a top-five finish this week at Anaheim. Metcalfe battled throughout the race, running in tight traffic throughout on the challenging throwback layout.
“It was going good,” said Metcalfe. “I got an okay start and I came out around third which was a perfect setup for the race. I went backwards a little bit though, but I regrouped and rode a solid race. Overall the race was a good solid result. I enjoyed the track layout, it was kind of challenging and definitely different. It was pretty cool.”
***
For Monster Energy Kawasaki's Timmy Ferry it was like déjà vu, as for the second week in a row he was caught up in an early incident, this time sending him to the ground. After he recovered, Ferry rode a remarkable race working his way from 20th in the field to finish sixth.
“My ride was good, I felt really good and the bike was good,” said Ferry. “(Andrew) Short went down right in front of me and there was no where I could go and I just hit him. I made a good charge up but it’s two weeks in a row I think we should have been on the podium.”
***
For Ferry the ride through the field helped him maintain a spot in the top five in the championship points standings. Ferry is just two points out of the third position and 10 points back of second place.
“We are still in the points race because other riders have had some troubles as well,” continued Ferry. “For me to come from last to sixth was good. I haven’t actually come through the pack that well in the last year or so. Overall it was a good result.”
***
For Stewart it was a difficult day. Suffering from an injury he sustained in preseason training, Stewart was still able to set the second fastest time during practice for the throwback event at Anaheim. After the second practice, Stewart and the Monster Energy Kawasaki team felt it was best for him not to compete in the event. Stewart’s status will be evaluated early this week.
“It was a tough decision, I had a problem on December 20 and I put my foot out and hurt my knee again,” said Stewart. “I haven’t ridden during the week since then, just at the races. I’ve just been fighting it every weekend. For me, it hurts because we put so much hard work into the season and for something like this to happen isn’t good. I’m not even close to riding as good as I can. When I was riding today my knee was really unstable to the point where it was going to come out. I don’t want to get further into the season and then have to pull out and miss both the supercross and the outdoor season. The hardest part is just letting all the fans know as well as my Monster Energy Kawasaki team. It has been tough for me, trust me it wasn’t an easy decision at all and I’m really sad about it.”
***
The throwback layout was the scene of one of the great supercross races back in 1986 and after racing on the difficult track, Ferry can see why the original race was so good.
“It was difficult, but it was kind of cool too,” said Ferry. “There were some good places to pass, about two or three places around the track, which is rare these days. Personally though, I didn’t really care for the ’86 track, I prefer the ones we have today.”
***
With the throwback theme for the second Anaheim event, the Monster Energy Kawasaki team got into the spirit. Both riders showed their 80’s style with Stewart participating in the track walk in a 1980’s wig complete with the retro Oakley blades. During practice both Stewart and Ferry sported throwback gear, with Ferry wearing a classic cotton jersey with bright teal and pink pants. For Stewart, it was the classic red, white and blue look with a simple theme throughout his gear.
***
The Pro Circuit team also celebrated another award on the podium as Stroupe’s mechanic Vince Bereni earned the MMI Top Mechanic of the race award. Bereni received a $500 bonus after being selected as mechanic of the race.
***
Kawasaki fans also were treated to a history lesson as Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Norm Bigelow coordinated a classic display of Kawasaki motorcycles. Complete with classic hay bales, the display featured three championship winning bikes, all ridden by Jeff Ward.
***
The 1980’s will be left in Anaheim as the championship tour heads to San Francisco’s AT&T Park for round four. Ferry is hoping he can get through the first lap clean and get back on the podium.
“I’m looking forward to it,” said Ferry. “San Francisco has some soft dirt and if the rain holds off it should be a good race. The track gets rutty and is technical, kind of like the Anaheim 2 track with the sand. That type of layout suits me well and we should get a good result.”

Monster Energy/Kawasaki’s Destry Abbott Starts The WORCS Series With a Top Ten Overall Finish
Abbott starts strong in 2nd place, fades a bit, but holds on to 8th o/a
CORONA, Calif., (Jan. 21, 2008) – Monster Energy/Kawasaki’s Destry Abbott opened the World Off Road Championship Series with a solid top ten finish (8th) at Speedworld in Arizona this past weekend.
Abbott got off to a solid start (2nd) and was running well when, according to his accounts, his arms pumped up a bit, causing him to fade behind the lead pack.
“I’m not sure what happened, but I suddenly got huge arm pump,” said Abbott. “It was to the point where I couldn’t use the clutch or front brake.”
Abbott, who was in 3rd place at the time, got passed up by a number of riders before being able to pit and re-enter the race at around 7th place. He managed to hold on and finished 8th overall.
“I wasn’t too happy finishing 8th when I was running in 2nd,” he said. “I know I’m well-prepared for this year and my endurance was great. If I hadn’t gotten arm pump I really fell I would have had a good shot at the podium. I’m feeling good about my speed and everything else that goes with it.”
Note: Abbott’s Monster Energy/Kawasaki teammate, Ricky Dietrich, finished 10th overall.
Next up for Destry Abbott and the Monster Energy/Kawasaki off road team is round one of the AMA Hare & Hound Series in Lucerne, Calif.

WORCS Round 1
Speedworld, Arizona
January 20, 2008
Race Day:
Well, the season is already kicking off! The best part about this race is the fact that it’s only 20-minutes from my house. The start was at 12:00 on Sunday, and it was packed with spectators and the pro gate was full. The WORCS crew did a great job on the course! It was rough, but well watered so dust wasn’t going to be a factor. Right at 12:00 the gate dropped and my Kawasaki 450 launched off the concrete. I was in second around the first corner (behind Bobby Bonds), but on the next corner Caselli got by. The first lap was pretty wild, and we were all pinning it. On the second lap, I believe Nathan and someone else got by me which put me in 5th. Going into the EnduroX section (which I really like) I was able to get by two guys and put myself back into third. Then not to much further into that lap, I was able to make a nice pass on Kurt to get myself into second. At this point I was feeling really good, and felt like I was going to have a great day. Bonds was still leading and he was pinning it! I figured I’d just ride the pace I was, and see what happened. On the next lap I’m not sure what happened, but I just suddenly got huge arm-pump. It was to the point where I couldn’t use the clutch or front brake. The next few lap’s people were just blowing by me, and there was absolutely nothing I could do but watch them pull away. At the hour mark I pitted and was back off, but I believe I was around 7th place. My arms started to loosen up and my pace started to get better, but I still wasn’t riding loose (like myself). I actually lost two more spots and was just having a tough time flowing. Going out on the last lap, I was able to get around Ricky and finished a disappointing 8th overall.
Overall Summary:
As you could imagine, I wasn’t too happy finishing 8th when I was running 2nd. I know I’m well prepared for this year, and my endurance was great. If I hadn’t gotten arm-pump I really feel I would’ve had a good shot at the podium. I know its part of racing and a lot of guys dealt with the same problem. I’m still feeling good about my speed and everything else that goes with it!

Other Notes:
I really need to give a huge Thanks to all my family, friends, and locals that showed up to cheer me on. I really would’ve liked to give them a podium finish!
I’d also like to thank Stephen Gall for helping me so much with my off-season training program. I really feel good about this year!
Today was a big day! Not only was it the first race of the season, but it was my sons B-Day (10).
It was really great to talk to Chris Blais on Saturday. It was the first time I’ve been able to talk to him since his accident. He’s such a great guy and he’s really doing great with his progress at rehab.
It’s just amazing how big the WORCS series has gotten. I’ve been racing the series since the first year (2001) and it’s really amazing to see all the semis and big rigs in the pits. Now we have a ton of MX riders trying to make the switch over; which is great too.
Dan Matthews, at Speedworld, really did a great job on getting the facility ready for this event. I know this is the biggest race of the year (in AZ) and it turned out awesome.
This was our first WORCS race with our new Kawasaki / Monster team semi. It was actually the MX/SX team rig, since they got a new one. It’s still new to us
Taylor Robert won the Pro 2 class and finished 12th overall. I’ve been trying to help him out and I know before the year is over he’s going to have plenty of top 10 overalls (along with Josh Morros). Both of them ride for Kawasaki and are super fast kids!
If you get a chance, check out my updated website www.destryabbott.com. We added some new photos, sponsors, and 2008 race schedule. We’re working on some cool new videos too.
I attached some photos from my 2008 WORCS photo shoot (courtesy of Kenny Jones).
My next race is this weekend in Lucerne, California for round 1 of the AMA Hare and Hound series. I’ll be racing the KLX450 in all the H&H’s.
Best Wishes,
Destry

Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Austin Stroupe Places 3rd At Anaheim 2 Throwback Night
Stroupe pulls the holeshot and leads the race early; teammate Brett Metcalfe runs at podium speed all night and winds up 5th overall
CORONA, Calif., (Jan. 21, 2008) – Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Austin Stroupe, in only his third professional supercross race, pulled the holeshot in Saturday’s Anaheim (Calif.) Lites class main event and held on to score his first-ever supercross podium finish, placing 3rd overall at round three of the 2008 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship.
Stroupe got things going quickly on his Pro Circuit-tuned Kawasaki KX250F, launching out of the starting gate and negotiating the long start straight faster than anyone. For his efforts at reaching the first turn in 1st place, Stroupe was awarded $1,000 by Progressive Insurance. And to top that off, Stroupe’s mechanic, Vince, was awarded and additional $500 by the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute for prepping that rocket ship start.
Said Stroupe: “It felt like last week (Phoenix) I was on the ground all weekend. I worked hard all week with my trainer and now I’m just happy to be up here on the podium.” Note: Stroupe failed to qualify for the Phoenix main event.
After pulling the holeshot Stroupe led the first five laps before handing the lead over to eventual race winner Ryan Dungey. “Dungey has tons of experience and I just wanted to get out there and ride with him a little bit,” said Stroupe. “I got winded at the end there, but the end result was pretty good for me in only my third pro supercross race.”
Also running well for Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki was Brett Metcalfe. The Australian got into a great battle with fellow countryman Dan Reardon in the Lites main event and would eventually settle on a solid 5th place finish.
Next up for the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team is Round Four of 2008 Monster Energy Supercross at San Francisco’s AT&T Park (Jan. 26).

Monster Energy Steps Up To Back Former Outdoor Nationals Champ & Current Euro Racer Mike Brown
The veteran Brown is still hammering away at it over in Europe, was recently crowned King of Dortmund by winning the German SX event
CORONA, Calif., (Jan. 15, 2008) – Monster Energy announced today that it is adding former AMA Outdoor Nationals champion (2001), longtime Monster Energy Supercross competitor and current European GP motocross racer Mike Brown to its ever-growing stable of global MX athletes.
Paying instant dividends for Monster Energy, Brown (CAS/Honda) himself stepped up and won last weekend’s German SX event, going 3-2 on the evening, and earning the title of “King of Dortmund.”
“It’s cool to be aligned with Monster,” said Brown. “Monster does a heck of a lot for the sport in the States and, with their recent push to market Monster Energy product on a more global stage, I’m confident the visibility and anticipated success of our program will help deliver the message.
“Again, I’m pumped to be on board with the Monster Army and look forward to representing the rest of the supercross and GP seasons around the world.”
Monster Energy’s Brown, who began his pro motocross career in 1990, has twice finished 3rd overall in the FIM MX2 class World GP Championship (1999-‘00). He’s also been on the overall podium three times in Monster Energy Supercross’ Supercross Lites regional championships (2001, ’02 and ’03) and rarely scored outside the top ten overall in Supercross Lites competition.

Monster Energy-Backed Jason Lawrence (YoT) Finishes 5th In A Wild SX Lites Class Affair @ Phoenix
Again one of the fastest racers on the track, Lawrence hooks up with a train of top Lites class racers in one of the best main events in recent years
CORONA, Calif., (Jan. 7, 2008) – Monster Energy-backed Jason Lawrence (Yamaha of Troy) wrung about all he could out of his hyper-fast YZ250F in a 5th place AMA Supercross Lites class finish at Phoenix’s Chase Field, round two of the 2008 Monster Energy AMA Supercross tour, an FIM World Championship.
Laying down the law with the 2nd fastest Lites class practice time, Lawrence entered heat race No. 1 on a high note – though a poor start would force him to come from behind to take the win the exciting heat.
“Yeah, I got past (Broc) Hepler, who was riding pretty good, and pulled off the win in the heat,” said Lawrence. “My Yamaha was haulin’. Again this week I’m pretty sure I had the fastest bike out there.”
In the main Lawrence didn’t quite get the start he wanted, and this time it’d cost him. Hustling from back around a double-digit starting place, he managed to make his way up to 7th after the first lap. By mid-race Lawrence had worked his way up to the top five and then passed fellow Monster Energy-backed racer Brett Metcalfe for 4th – and counting -until disaster struck.
“I’m pretty sure I’d have been able to make the podium,” said Lawrence.
Problem was he and Metcalfe got together on lap 12 and Lawrence almost went down, losing all of his podium-speed momentum.
“Nobody’s fault but mine,” said Lawrence in a ‘Zepplinesque’ tone.
So after two rounds Lawrence trails Ryan Dungey by nine points, 47-38.

Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Brett Metcalfe Places 3rd In An Exciting Phoenix SX Lites Main Event
Metcalfe battles hard in one of the closest main event finishes in recent years
CORONA, Calif., (Jan. 14, 2008) – Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Brett Metcalfe wound up on the podium of one of the more exciting AMA Supercross Lites class races in recent years, scoring a 3rd place finish on his Kawasaki KX250F at Saturday’s Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, at Phoenix’s Chase Field.
Metcalfe, who pulled a powerful start (4th), got hooked up in a train of six racers – any of whom could have won on Saturday. He moved into podium position on lap 11, then was able to fight off a feverous charge from a number of riders to hold that position through the checkers – his first podium finish of the 2008 Monster Energy Supercross season.
“It was one of those tracks where you had to focus and stay on it because there was five to six guys in there,” said Metcalfe. “It was a lot of fun and to end up on the podium made it awesome.”
Metcalfe, who finished out of the top ten in the first Lites class race of the season (Anaheim 1), hopes his effort at Phoenix will set him on course for a Eastern Region Monster Energy Supercross championship bid come Seattle (April 26th).
“I think every Lites class race is going to be like that from here on out,” he said. “So it’s going to be important for myself to get good starts, ride smart and attack the track.”
Metcalfe’s teammate, Austin Stroupe (5th @ Anaheim 1), did not qualify for the Lites main event.
Next up for the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team is Round Three of 2008 Monster Energy Supercross at Anaheim’s, Calif., Angels Stadium (Jan. 19).

(Jan. 14, 2008) - Monster Energy/Arctic Cat’s Tucker Hibbert took his career-first win in Shakopee, Minn. with a clean sweep of the Pro Super Stock class at the Air Force Canterbury National. The all-new Arctic Cat SnoPro 600 took the spotlight as Hibbert convincingly won both Pro Super Stock finals, marking the first-ever pro stock win for the new sled. Hibbert praised everyone at Arctic Cat in Thief River Falls for working so hard to create the new machine along with his team for the long hours of testing and fine-tuning. Hibbert was named the Air Force M.V.P. of the weekend for his professionalism and dominating performances on the racetrack.

Tucker Hibbert – #68 Monster Energy/Arctic Cat
“It feels awesome to get a pair of stock wins for Arctic Cat on the new sled. It’s a testament to how hard everyone has worked to develop it. I can’t thank my team enough for their long hours of testing and fine-tuning.
It’s been four years since I’ve been at Canterbury so to leave with my first-ever win and with the stock sweep is great. It’s first class facility and the fans were unbelievable.
After this weekend, we know where we are on speed and what we need to work on. I feel really confident heading into the rest of the season and know there are more wins to come for Monster Energy/Arctic Cat.”

Monster Energy Drink’s Grant Langston Just A Click Off The Anaheim One Podium
Langston (Yamaha) battles valiantly to place 4th o/a in premier SX class
CORONA, Calif., (Jan. 7, 2008) – Monster Energy’s Grant Langston (Yamaha), the reigning U.S. Open of Supercross and Bercy Supercross champion, picked up right were he left off this past fall in challenging for the overall podium at the opening round of 2008 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, at Anaheim’s (Calif.) Angels Stadium.
“Yeah, I felt pretty good. Should have been on the podium, but given the conditions I’ll take what I got,” said Langston. “Certainly could have been worse.”
After scoring a rather ho-hum 5th place finish in his heat race Langston exploded in the Supercross class main, blazing a trail to 2nd place overall after the first lap, then inheriting the lead when fellow Yamaha racer Chad Reed went down.
Langston then the race for the next several laps, much to the appreciation of his adopted hometown of Lake Elsinore, Calif., - home of Langston Racing - and the fans from southern California.
“I could definitely hear it when I was running up front,” said Langston. “I think I could get used to that.” (laughter)
Supercross specialists Reed and James Stewart would eventually catch and pass the current AMA Outdoor National MX champion, Langston. Veteran Tim Ferry would be the last battle for Langston en route to making the podium – a battle which Ferry would ultimately win (at least for this round).
Next up for Monster Energy’s Langston is the Phoenix round of 2008 Monster Energy Supercross at Chase Field, Jan. 12.

Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki Pleased With Austin Stroupe’s First-Ever Supercross Results
Stroupe opens his pro Monster Energy Supercross career with a solid 5th place overall finish in the AMA Supercross Lites class
CORONA, Calif., (Jan. 7, 2008) – Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Austin Stroupe unleashed signs of the beast this past weekend, battling some of the world’s best Lites class racers to a top five position at the opening round of the 2008 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series, an FIM World Championship, at Anaheim’s (Calif.) Angels Stadium.
The race for Stroupe, his first-ever pro supercross race, was highlighted by an improvement from a 16th fastest practice time to 5th place finish in his heat race and 5th place finish in the Lites main event.
“I was pretty nervous before we got practice started, didn’t push it too hard getting to know the track, then managed to focus better once the gate dropped on my heat race,” said Stroupe. “The main went pretty well considering it was my first pro supercross ever. Wish I could have made the podium, but there’s plenty of time for that.”
In the main Stroupe actually pulled a near perfect start on this KX250F and came around after the first lap in 2nd place. A bobble on lap two allowed some of the more experience riders time and space to get past him, but Stroupe held strong and battled all the way through the checkers against the more experienced field.
Stroupe’s teammate, Brett Metcalfe, finished 19th overall.
Next up for the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team is Round Two of 2008 Monster Energy Supercross at Phoenix’s Chase Field (Jan. 12).

As you may know, Andy is in Davos right now competing at a 6 star TTR event, which is a big deal, because the points will accumulate over the season and could win him a world title!! Anyways, he just got a 1st place win in the halfpipe comp! Not only did he get first but he swept it by receiving 26 more points than Risto who got 2nd! I asked him what he did that got him such a big win and he said that he just went big and kept his speed throughout the whole run...not to mention throwing down two 10s, a michael chuck and i believe a huge straight air. Today is the QuarterPipe contest, and you will be able to watch it live and receive the results at www.freecaster.com

Monster Energy-Backed Jason Lawrence (YoT) Leads A1 Monster SX, Settles For 2nd After “Stupid” Wreck
Lawrence was the fastest Lites racer on the track and proved that in the main, coming from 13th place after the first turn to lead by lap 4
CORONA, Calif., (Jan. 7, 2008) – Monster Energy-backed Jason Lawrence (Yamaha of Troy), the defending Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM Championship, Western Region Lites class runner up, was in it at the Anaheim (Calif.) opener this past Saturday, putting up the best times in the Lites class despite some dicey condition brought on by unusually stormy weather.
Lawrence put down, by far, the fastest practice time then went on to holeshot and win the second heat race – doing so by nearly 14 seconds over Brett Metcalfe.
“I got the track wired early was pumped coming into the main,” said Lawrence.
In the main Lawrence got out of the gate well, but managed somehow to drift sideways a bit in the wet and loose soil – taking him off his desired line to the apex of the first turn. Once there Lawrence got caught up in the pack and came into the first rhythm section in 13th place.
“Sucked,” was the one word answer Lawrence gave on his start.
Still, the California transplant had pretty much the entire stadium keeping an eye on him as he put the hammer down on his YZ250F and started picking off riders one after another.
“My YZ was haulin’,” said Lawrence. “The guys at Yamaha of Troy did a killer job getting it ready. All I did was pretty much pin the throttle and steer.”
By lap four Lawrence had caught and passed everybody, including both Pro Circuit racers, eventual winner Ryan Dungey and then race leader Dan Reardon to take the overall lead. The crowd was going nuts during his run at the front. Lawrence then led through lap seven of the 15-lap contest before running into some lappers, which allowed Dungey to triple past Lawrence.
In no time Lawrence was able to reel in Dungey pretty easily and took the lead back from the Suzuki rider – and kept it through lap eight – before he (Lawrence) threw it away in a spin out crash on the face of the finish line jump.
“I blew it,” said Lawrence, who was able to re-mount his bike and race back to the podium (2nd o/a). “My Yamaha was the fastest bike out there and I should have won. Period. But my goal is the championship and this just gets me more pissed off and ready to go for Phoenix. I know I’ve got the fastest bike and I plan on proving it.”
Next up for Monster Energy Supercross is the Phoenix round at Chase Field (Jan. 12).

Monster Energy Kawasaki Scores Double Podium in Season Opener
Anaheim, Calif. (January 6, 2008) -- The Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM Championship, started off with both Monster Energy Kawasaki team riders on the podium after a slippery race at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif. James Stewart ran into problems in the first turn after being hit from behind, and going down in the middle of the corner. Stewart got back up as fast as he could and began a momentous charge through the field to finish second. While Stewart had problems in the first corner, Timmy Ferry came through clean, running fourth. Ferry moved up to second midway through the race and after a quick battle with Stewart, held on for a third-place finish.
In the first round of the Western Regional AMA Supercross Lites Championship, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider Austin Stroupe earned a fifth-place finish in his professional supercross debut, while Brett Metcalfe was slowed by the difficult conditions, finishing 19th."

Villopoto, Metcalfe, Jesseman & Stroupe Head Up ’08 Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki Supercross Program
The reigning Monster Energy Supercross Lites champion team re-loads for upcoming East & West Regional competition seasons
CORONA, Calif., (Jan. 4, 2007) – Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki is again stacked from east to west with talent and, in just a little over 24 hours, will unleash that talent in what’s expected to be a mudfest Western Lites class opener to kick off the 2008 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series, an FIM World Championship, at Anaheim’s (Calif.) Angels Stadium.
Leading the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team into battle, although from the sidelines for the west opener due to a recent injury, is defending Western Lites Regional champion, Ryan Villopoto. The 2007 AMA Athlete of the Year, Villopoto will give the eastern Monster Energy Supercross fans a good look at his incredible talents on the dirt bike beginning with the Atlanta SX in late February.
“Even through we had some changes with (Ben) Townley leaving and (Christophe) Pourcel getting hurt, I feel Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki is still going to be the team to beat,” said Villopoto.
Heading up the Western Region Lites title chase beginning at Anaheim for Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki – as of press time – will be returning starter Brett Metcalfe, along with Monster Energy/Kawasaki Team Green upstart, the highly-decorated amateur racer Austin Stroupe.
For Metcalfe, the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki ride will offer a chance to improve upon an already excellent career in which he’s never finished outside the top ten overall in SX Lites class racing.
“Last year I missed the entire supercross season, but managed to get on the podium three times and finish 7th overall in the Nationals even through I missing five rounds,” said Metcalfe. “This will be the first time racing supercross on the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki bikes and I’m really looking forward to getting after it here at Anaheim.”
If his finish at the Steel City (Pa.) National (4th) is any indication, Stroupe’s highlights as a pro, though limited to motocross, are set to erupt. He’ll certainly be one to keep an eye on beginning this weekend.
Joining Villopoto on the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team and racing the Eastern Lites Region will be veteran Branden Jesseman. Jesseman’s a proven winner and his alignment with Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki has created a spark in within the industry, especially regarding the intra-region battle he’ll have with his teammate, Villopoto.
Monster Energy Supercross action gets underway tomorrow at 7 p.m. at Anaheim’s Angels Stadium. The race will be broadcast live on at 10 p.m. EST on SPEED.

Monster Energy-Backed Jason Lawrence (YoT) Looking For A Major SX Impact This Weekend
Training with Ryno to back the walk, Lawrence plans on talking the talk when the Lites class checkers fly on the Anaheim opener this Saturday
CORONA, Calif., (Jan. 4, 2008) – Monster Energy-backed Jason Lawrence (Yamaha of Troy), the defending Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM Championship, Western Region Lites class runner up, thinks it’s about time to get this stadium race season started.
Loose, casual, but ready to tear into the Western Lites division again this year, when asked of what he’s expecting at the Anaheim 1 opener, Lawrence said: “Uh, here’s mud in your eye?” (laughter).
Training voraciously with a former pro rider who’s about as tough as they come, Ryan “Ryno” Hughes, Lawrence has reportedly laid down some eyebrow-raising times recently at the local SoCal test tracks around his adopted hometown of Carlsbad.
“Yeah, I don’t even know, man. I had some kind of timer deal on my bars and it ended up flying off or something – probably got ran over,” said Lawrence, who was rockin’ the latest Volcom clothing at the track, courtesy of his new sponsor. “So people have been telling me my times are pretty good a nd that. But I’m like ‘Whatever.’ Practice lap times are just that – practice.”
Not to be lost in the Iversonesque moment, Lawrence was keen to point out that he’s seen a noticeable rise in his cardio and strength now that he’s been training with Ryno.
“It’s insane, man,” he said. “I mean like today we went out and watered the starting gate and Ryno had me pull like 40 starts in the mud. That dude’s got me more focused to start a season than I’ve ever been I think.”
A quick rewind back to last year’s final supercross race in Vegas should spark the interest of any Lawrence fans that may have been on the fence. At the East/West Dave Coombs Sr. Lites Shootout Lawrence wadded up in the first turn of the main and, against the world’s top 250Fcc class racers, raged all the way back to 4th place.
“That was a blast, man,” recalled Lawrence. “Sucked I couldn’t make the podium, but I gave it everything I had trying.”
When it was all said and done last year, Lawrence finished 2nd to rival Ryan Villopoto – himself a Monster Energy-backed racer. This year the two enter the 2008 Monster Energy Supercross season as the favorites to come out on top again.
Said Lawrence in closing: “I want it bad, man. Real bad.”

CORONA, Calif., (Dec. 31, 2007) – Monster Energy is proud to announce its all star line up of riders for the 2008 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series, an FIM World Championship.
“Though the familiar face of Monster Energy’s Ricky Carmichael will no longer grace the supercross podium, our line up this year should be every bit as exciting given our returning stars of Monster Energy Supercross,” said Monster Energy spokesman Scott Sepkovic. “From the defending Supercross class series champion, Monster Energy/Kawasaki’s James Stewart, to the favorite to win the east Lites title, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto, Monster Energy should once again have its fair share of titles covered.”
Making the overall 2007 supercross podium in 3rd place behind Stewart and Chad Reed was Monster Energy’s Tim Ferry. At 31, Ferry is the veteran of the premier Supercross class. But he is by no means slowing up as the aggressive Floridian plans on making another run at the overall podium.
Also running the iconic Monster Energy “M” claw logo with Stewart and Ferry in the hunt for the overall Supercross class title will be Grant Langston (Yamaha). Easily the hottest racer entering the season, Langston has the momentum of the combined Outdoor Nationals and U.S. Open of Supercross titles in his favor when the gate drops at Anaheim 1 this week.
In the Lites class Villopoto admitted on national television (CBS) that one of the guys that was going to challenge for his title was fellow Monster Energy racer Jason Lawrence. Last year in the western Lites region Lawrence was all over Villopoto, scoring six podium finishes heading into the Dave Coombs Sr. Las Vegas Lites Shoot Out. There he nearly podiumed again, finishing 4th in the stacked field.
Rounding out the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team will be former Lites champ Branden Jesseman, super-fast Monster Energy Supercross Series rookie Austin Stroupe and veteran racer Brett Metcalfe.
“Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki will again be the team to beat in the Lites class,” said John Lee, Director of Sports Marketing for Monster Energy. “Pro Circuit’s Mitch Payton does a spectacular job putting together a team that proves year after year to be the division’s best program. And Monster Energy is again looking forward to our association with the Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team and the benefits that go along with the team’s consistent success.”
Finally, when he’s not capturing Winter X Games gold on his Arctic Cat snowmobile, look for Monster Energy’s Tucker Hibbert to challenge for the eastern Lites division championship. Hibbert’s been consistently improving the past couple seasons – his first racing supercross full time and is always a threat to make the top eight.
