Monster Energy’ ’s Paul Thacker Qualifies For Winter X! World snowmobile distance jumping record holder to compete in Snowmobile Speed & Style Final at Aspen/Snowmass (Colo.) ESPN Winter X 12
CORONA, Calif., (Dec. 27 , 2007) – – Monster Energy-backed Paul Thacker , who’ ’s jumped a snowmobile farther through the air than anybody on the planet, will get to show off his mad skills this January (24th ) in the ESPN Winter X Games 12’ ’s new Snowmobile Speed & Style competition at Aspen/Snowmass, Colo. “ “This is really a dream come true for me,” ”said Thacker, fighting back fake Hollywood chick tears like he’ ’d won a Grammy® or something. “ “For real, I’ ’m pumped to be representing with Monster at Winter X this January. The new Speed & Style event should be cool for the fans, allowing us to really show what can be done on mountain with a sled. People are going to be into it – –big time.” ” Thacker, a former collegiate hockey player and banker-turned Sledneck, is looked up to as one of the world’ ’s premier sled riders in the world by his peers – –including Monster Energy’ ’s Chris Burandt , himself a Winter X gold medal winner (’ ’07). And though Thacker’ ’s attempt to qualify in the Snowmobile Freestyle (like FMX) discipline came up a bit short (6th when they took the top four), Thacker got a call from ESPN officials inviting him to compete in the Speed & Style event. “ “Thacker’ ’s kind of a bag of potatoes when it comes to freestyle – –although he’ ’s getting better,” ”said Burandt laughing. “ “So Winter X basically had to come up with an event to suit him on account of it takes all of us two separate jumps to fly as far as he can one. The Snowmobile Speed & Style event is right up our alley. So it’ ’d be nice if we could pull a 1-2 for Monster – –with me getting first, of course (more laughter).” ”
Said Thacker: “ “I’ ’ll just be happy to carry Burandt’ ’s silver medal around to the bars in Aspen while he’ ’s doing my laundry.” ” For more information on the upcoming Winter X Games 12, link to: www.expn.com Monster Energy supports the sport. Hey Everyone,
Just a quick update on what Andy has been up to. As you know, we returned from a great 2nd Place QP finish in Japan and than straight to LA to spend a day filming with the Daily Habit and than in case you haven' ' t heard, we got a few good dumps this past week, finally! Andy has taken full advantage of the fresh pow and has been busy filming/ shooting photos from sunrise to well past sunset. He got some great night shots at the backcountry near SugarBowl, also did a snowmobile/snowshoeing backcountry expedition all day which included a road gap, and last night they shot a rainbowrail and a roof gap right here at our own house! And today Andy is out filming with someone from ESPN for something that will be aired during the X-GAMES. So, he has been keeping very busy and looking forward to more comps come January. We wanted to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New year. And we will keep you updated as more comes.....

Greetings from the ice box of Northwestern Minnesota. I want to give you a little update on what has been going on lately. I have raced two snocross races so far this year, the Duluth National and the Park X Minnesota regional. We ’ve been doing pretty good so far. I won the Pro Open class at Duluth, took sixth in Pro Stock and won both stock classes at Park X.
I didn’t know what to expect going into Duluth. I had only ridden eight days before the race and we were wide open in the shop for two weeks trying to get everything ready. We had about eight guys working around the clock wrapping the semi, painting snowmobile parts, building engines, studding tracks, etc. Mandi and my Mom made sure we didn’t starve. Needless to say, it was a pretty hectic two weeks. I was able to relax on Thanksgiving day and have a nice dinner with Mandi and my Mom, then it was off the races.
I didn’t have to race in the X Games qualifiers so I was able to do some spectating on Friday. Saturday we had our Stock class qualifying final. I won two qualifiers and got third in the other, giving me the top qualifying spot and first pick on the start. I was slow of the start and had to play catch up. I was working on a pass for fourth and ended up crashing on the uphill section of the track. I got back going in sixth place wasn’t able to catch fifth place before the checkers flew. I apologize to anyone who was planning on coming early Sunday to watch the Stock final. There was a quick change in the schedule that put the final on Satuday night inseatd of Sunday morning.
Pro Open qualifying on Sunday went great. We won all three races, landing top qualifier again. I was slow off the start again and had to work my way from about sixth to catch the leader Ross Martin. I rode my butt off to catch and pass him and the track was beating me up. I was able to bring home the win with a safe margin.
It felt awesome to get a win at the first race and all the guys on the team felt a little better about working so hard in the weeks prior.
We went home and got ready for the Park X regional the following weekend. We wanted to go there to get some extra testing and practice in. The track was good and we were able to dial our sleds in a little better. I had some bad luck in the Pro Open final, Another rider drove his ski into my tunnel on the first lap leaving us both sitting on the side for the entire race. We did win both Pro Stock finals and got some good practice in so all in all it was a successful weekend.
My next race will be in Fertile, Minn on Dec. 15-16. We will be there in full force to get some more race time under our belts before the next national.
The first three months of married life have been great. Mandi and I have been busy with wedding thank you notes, Christmas gifts and cards, shoveling snow and getting geared up to move to our new home.
Hope everyone has a great holiday season!
Thanks for checking in and God Bless-
Tucker.

Monster Energy Team Dakar USA Prepares for the 2008 Dakar RallyDecember 11, 2007
This year, the 15-stage epic off-road race starts in Lisbon, Portugal on January 5th and concludes on January 20th in Dakar, Senegal. The preparation for the 2008 Dakar Rally is in its final stages as the support vehicles, loaded with all the spare parts and equipment, begin their trip across the USA today to Savannah, GA where they will then travel by cargo vessel to Lisbon. It is much more of a challenge for the Anaheim, California based team than that of their European based counterparts. The majority of the top teams participating in the Dakar Rally are based in Europe, which allows them more time to prepare unlike Team Dakar USA. Logistic preparation for Team Dakar USA is a very important dynamic to the success of the overall program. Fortunately, the Hummer H3s are airlifted only days before the start, giving the team added time to test and perfect the race vehicles.
As Team Dakar USA enters its third Dakar Rally with the Monster Energy / Toyo Tire Hummer H3, Gordon has also added a second Hummer to his elite off-road team. He has enlisted the help of fellow American Dakar veteran, Ronn Bailey to pilot an identically prepared Hummer H3. Bailey, who is CEO of Vanguard Integrity Professionals, an enterprise security software company, will participate in the next three Dakar Rally events as an integral part of Team Dakar USA. The Vanguard Integrity Professional H3 Hummer entry will be very strategic to the teams overall objective of becoming the first American team to win the Dakar Rally.
With the added pressure of a second team, the team also has to prepare for the increased course length. The organizers of the Dakar Rally (the ASO) have lengthened the course by more than 1,000 km (621 miles) for a total of 9,273 km (or 5,762 miles). Therefore, the team needs to prepare for this added challenge by making sure that the parts will withstand the grueling desert terrain, that there is enough fuel ordered to make it to the end, and that support vehicles and team members get the rest needed.
For Gordon, the support of Ronn Bailey and the second entry easily outweighs the overall strain of the preparation for the additional team. “If you look at the results of our Dakar effort, you’ll see they parallel to our efforts in the NASCAR Cup Series. Every year our programs continue to get better. We fell out of the Rally the first year after not making a checkpoint. Last year, we managed to become the first American team and manufacturer to win a stage. We finished in eighth place overall. This year, aside from drastically improving the Hummer, the next best thing we could do is try to level the playing field to be more like the multi-car factory-supported teams. Now we have a teammate in Ronn Bailey, and he is every bit as passionate about winning this race as I am.”
Bailey, who in the past had tackled Dakar with his own effort, clearly sees the wisdom in joining forces with Gordon. “Robby is building some of the most impressive off-road vehicles – it’s amazing just to watch the Hummer suspension work. For Robby and I to team up for Dakar makes sense on so many levels. It consolidates two strong American efforts in to one powerful team. For both of us the combined resources will provide advantages that will be undeniable.”
While the logistics of getting to the start of the Dakar Rally alone might seem overwhelming, Gordon and Bailey clearly have their eyes set on making history by becoming the first American team and drivers to win the legendary Dakar Rally.

CORONA, Calif., (Dec. 7, 2007) - - The unofficial ‘ ‘Mayor of the North Shore’ ’was on top of his craft this past weekend in Hawaii, winning the prestigious $125,000 O’ ’Neill World Cup of Surfing comp held at Sunset Beach - -the second round of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing tour.
In the waning minutes of the competition in jagged conditions (clean-faced 20 footers in the semis to wind-blown 10 to 12 foot waves in the finals), Rothman uncorked his best run last, scoring a 9.5 tube run to defeat Brazilian Leonardo Neves for the title.
““Besides winning the award for the biggest wave ever ridden when I was just a teenager, this was winning in my backyard at one of the biggest contests of the year,” ”said Rothman. “ “I bled, cried, got my ass kicked - -everything on this beach. Friday, November 30 marked the end of what will forever be remembered as the longest and most courageous battle between one man, a man we all know as the world`s greatest daredevil, and death. Robert Craig "Evel"
Knievel died in Clearwater, Florida, finally succumbing after nearly a three-year bout with the terminal lung disease, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He was 69.
His death was preceded by more than 40 years of constant battle against the persistent pain of broken bones and severe trauma after jumping and crashing motorcycles like no man had ever done before. In addition, he fought to overcome the tremendous obstacles of diabetes, hepatitis C, a liver transplant, numerous surgeries and two strokes.
Knievel`s legacy as America`s Legendary Daredevil, Last of the Gladiators, and King of the Stuntmen will undeniably live on among millions of fans, past, present and future. However, the memories of the man apart from his legend will live on even stronger in the hearts of his friends and family. Despite his well-known swagger of self confidence, the legacy he wished for most of all was simply to be an inspiration.
"The fame of great men ought to be judged always by the means they used to acquire it."
By this maxim, nothing will ever be able to take away or challenge the things accomplished by Evel Knievel.
Whether it was unmatched courage or just an absolute unwillingness to give in to fear, Robert Craig Knievel was a man`s man through all the days of his life. He took great pride in the simply stated, yet most difficult to accomplish principles: always living up to his word, never shirking the responsibility or consequences for his actions regardless of the personal risk, and never, not ever, failing to stop trying.
Knievel was born in Butte, Montana on October 17, 1938 to Robert Edward and Ann (Keough) Knievel. He and his younger brother Nic were raised by the loving family of paternal grandparents Ignatius and Emma Knievel.
Growing up and living in Butte were some of the most valued times of his life. His fame took him far and wide across the country and even over seas, but Knievel never let go of the love and pride he had for his hometown.
Growing up in a blue-collar mining town, Knievel attended Butte public schools before serving in the U.S. Army reserves. As a young man he was always an exceptional athlete, hard worker and determined individual.
Knievel explored and excelled in many different professions, if only for a short time, before finding his calling as the ultimate daredevil.
During his prime as a bona fide celebrity, Knievel enjoyed his spoils to the highest. He loved fast cars, private airplanes, fancy yachts and the finest clothes and jewelry money could buy. He was sought out by Hollywood and remained friends with many famous people until his death.
In the end, he had a few regrets, but he always sincerely strived to do the right thing. He never forgot who his real friends were. He never forgot his love for his family. And he never forgot the place from where he came, what he`d learned or what others had done to help him get to where he did. The red, white and blue for which he is famous were a tribute to his Butte character as much as they were for America. In his last years, one of the greatest honors was being able to share his hometown with his world of fans and to participate and take pride in the celebration of his annual event, "Evel Knievel Days."
He dearly loved his grandchildren and he always made it a point to stay in touch with the people he loved the most, his friends and family. And lastly, most important to him above all was his new-found faith in Jesus Christ. Just as he always took great care in surrounding himself with the best people he could depend upon to help him make his jumps during his motorcycle career, Knievel found his greatest friend of all in preparation for his final leap from life. He was profoundly happy that he gave his life to God, who comforted him and gave him the strength he needed to make it through the end.
Knievel is survived by his loyal friend and wife, Krystal Kennedy-Knievel, whom he married in 1999. She stood by his side through his greatest struggles with health until his death. He will also be very missed by sidekick, "Rocket," his pet Maltese, as well as Rocket`s brother, "Squirt." Knievel`s in-laws include Krystal`s mother Sylvia and her husband Wayne Croft; father Glen Kennedy, and Krystal`s sister Shawn and husband Rory with their two children.
He is also survived by his former wife and dear friend of 38 years, Linda Bork Knievel. Though they divorced, Linda and Evel had four children that all made them proud. Son, Kelly Knievel and daughter-in-law Shelli with granddaughter Lily; son, Robbie Knievel and granddaughters Krysten and Karmen, with great-granddaughter Analiese; daughter Tracey and son-in-law Mitch McCloud with grandchildren Josiah, Jesse, Melody, Cody, Cole, Casey and Dusty with wife Rachel and great-granddaughter Lucy; and his youngest daughter Alicia, with son-in-law Matt Vincent and grandchildren Madelyn, Jaicee, Rye and his sixteenth grandchild expected this June.
Other surviving family members include his stepmother, Mrs. Robert Edward Knievel; brother, Nic and his wife Rusty; sister, Kristy and brother-in-law Hugh Lawrence; sister, Renee and brother-in-law Bill Slaughter; sister Robin and brother-in-law John Dick; and sisters Loretta Young and Kadie Boney. His is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and his millions and millions of fans.
Public services will be held for family, friends and fans at the Butte Civic Center at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 10th. A private Christian burial and graveside services will take place at the Mountain View Cemetery

Monster Energy’ ’s TJ Lavin’ ’s On The Mend, Walking Again And Putting Out Music In His Spare Time

CORONA, Calif., (Dec. 5, 2007) – – Hearing Monster Energy’ ’s TJ Lavin talk about his gnarly BMX dirt jumping wreck the Dew Tour is enough to make your socks roll up and down.
" "Everything was going great. I was going for a Decade on the last set and over shot the landing a bit," "said Lavin. " "My foot came off the pedal and hit the ground just right.
" "And I felt my shoe come up and kick me in the knee." "
Compound tib/fib, national TV, surgery, rod, screws. It’ ’s a story Lavin’ ’s had to tell dozens of times. But six weeks later, the story he’ ’s telling now is even more compelling.
" "I just started to walk again. Well, limp," "he says. " "I started physical therapy like two weeks after it happened. Went at it hard, training in a pool. So the feeling’ ’s pretty great that I can walk again." "
And the feeling’ ’s coming even though there’ ’s no feeling in Lavin’ ’s big toe. " "Yeah, my big toe’ ’s paralyzed, which is kind of a bummer," "he said. " "But I’ ’m hoping with some electro-stim and more PT that it’ ’ll come around. If not I’ ’ll have to have it fused to my other toe in order to get it to work properly." "
During his down time off the bike Lavin’ ’s had some more time to mess around with a longtime passion of his, music. Honing his skills at producing music at his Vegas home otherwise known as "Lavs Lab" the past decade, Lavin’ ’s proved he’ ’s got a knack for it – –at least that’ ’s what his friends think.
" "Everybody’ ’s been telling me ‘ ‘Man, you’ ’ve got to put out a CD,’ ’" "said Lavin. " "My buddy here in Vegas, Tom Parham, has 30 years experience in the music industry and has helped show me the ropes. So with this recent down time I was able to get up the nerve to put out a CD." "
Lavs: The first set , according to Lavin, is a " "hip-hop, viby mix that’ ’s a little bit underground – – something that you wouldn’ ’t likely hear on the radio." "Check it out at:
" "But I fell in love with producing music like I did with BMX bikes," "added Lavin, who’ ’s worked with such notable artists as the Kotton Mouth Kings and Big B.
As for what’ ’s up next, Lavin says in no way should the legion of Monster Energy drinkers rule him out from BMX competition. In fact, if his burgeoning TV (MTV’ ’s " "Challenge" "series) and music schedule allow it, he’ ’ll be back for sure full time in ’ ’08.
" "All this injury did was really give me some time to think about how much I love to ride my bike," "he said. " "I’ ’ll come back from this, no problem. I’ ’m not scared to send it!" "
