Christian Sereika
SPORT: Skateboard LOCATION: West Point, UT
CHECK OUT HIS PROFILE

Yeah Christian, how are you buddy? Great man! Lovin it right
Tell us a little bit about yourself I am Christian Sereika! and I am 20 years young, and I live in the great Salt Late City sk801!
SLC! How is the skate scene in Salt Lake and what makes it unique? It's so good out here. Great spots and even sicker skaters...got some killers coming outta here: Tyson Bowerbank, Sam Hubble, Tyler Hess and the boys!
Pros: Sick Mormon church spots all over!
Cons: Even more Mormons that don't want you to skate their churches!
You just had an epic weekend at the Dew Tour in Boston. Tell us about it. So good! Qualified for the rest of the tour! and the Monster team showed me a super rad night!
I was there and you were really skating well. Have you been filming at all? What new projects are you working on? Ya, actually been filming on a new part coming out in a local vid called Touch It Again for like 8 months now. Should be done in October!
That sounds sick, can't wait to see it. Who would you say is your favorite Monster Skate General right now? Dude I'm such a huge fan of PLG and Lutzka but after this weekend watching him rip, Alex (Perelson) is up there!
With such a stacked Monster team, why'd you pick those three? They're all killing it in different departments and it's hard to pick just one. They're the raddest dudes ever!
What music are you into when chillin and what is playing when you skate? I'm so ADD with music. Anything from Billy Idol to Eaze-E but most played would probably be Game and Motley Crew.
Favorite flavor of Monster Energy? Java and Original.
Tell us about your game plan for the rest of 2009. Hopefully make finals, get some banging tricks for my part and get a place of my own!
Last words for the kids in Monster Army? Get out and skate! Kill it and drink that Monster!

Monster Energy-backed Jason “JLaw” Lawrence leads in the Monster Army onto the 450 class podium at Washougal; Pourcel podiums in 250 class
CORONA, Calif., (July 27, 2009) – Love him or hate him, there’s no denying you can’t take your eyes of him when he’s racing. And this past weekend Monster Energy’s Jason “JLaw” Lawrence (Boost/ampm/Monster/Troy-JLaw Racing) was finally able to put a couple motos together this summer – and in doing so found himself on the podium at the Washougal (Wash.) MX National with a season-best 3rd place overall finish (10th/3rd) in the premier 450 class. Lawrence, who’s battled through injuries and illness this summer, was pumped with his effort – and said he’s got plenty more in the tank where that came from. “I’ve got no excuses – I should have been riding this way all summer long,” he said. “We’ve got four more races to go, including a Monster Triple Crown round at Budds (Md.), and my plan is to put the Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster/Troy-JLaw Racing team up on the podium at every one of those rounds.” The fiery Lawrence was obviously still a fan-favorite with the Washougal faithful and didn’t disappoint his legions of fans at one of the Lucas Oil MX Nationals’ highest-attended races of the year. Lawrence battled back from a 10th place finish in the first moto when it counted – scoring a hard-earned podium 3rd place in the second moto, which landed the SoCal transplant from New Jersey on the overall 450 podium for the first time this year. Also running well in the 450 class was Lawrence’s Monster Energy-backed teammate, Nick Wey (Boost/ampm/Monster/Troy-JLaw Racing). The veteran was solidly inside the top ten with a 7th place finish (13th/6th) and moved up to 9th place in the overall 450 class standings. In 250 class action Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Christophe Pourcel rallied back from an 8th place finish in the first moto and to win the second moto and salvage a 3rd place overall podium finish. After eight rounds of MX Nationals racing Pourcel and Washougal winner Ryan Dungey are tied at 337 points a piece. Also running well in the 250 class were Jake Weimer (Monster/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki), who placed 5th overall and led a Monster Energy 1st/2nd finish in the second 250 moto, and Max Anstie (Boost/ampm/Monster/Troy-JLaw Racing), who placed 9th in the 250 class with a solid two top ten moto effort (9th/9th). Also, Monster Energy’s Jared Graves wins the WC 4x event at Ste Anne, wraps up the overall World Cup title – his second in a row! Photos courtesy of: Fraser Britton
CORONA, Calif., (July 27, 2009) – Monster Energy’s Sam Hill (Specialized) and Sabrina Jonnier (Maxxis) locked down overall men’s and women’s elite class downhill wins this past weekend at the Mt. Ste. Anne (Quebec, Canada) stop on the 2009 UCI World Cup MTB DH tour, with Monster Energy teammate Jared Graves winning the 4x competition and sealing this year’s overall 4x title.
With the victorious DH effort Hill takes charge of the overall men’s elite class points lead and now tops Great Britain’s Steve Pete and South Africa’s Greg Minnaar heading into this weekend’s Bromont, Quebec, round – a race that Hill won last year.
“The run was alright. It was a bit slow with the rain, some bits were slick,” explained Hill. “I felt like I could just back off a little having seven seconds (lead) after qualifying, I didn't want to make any mistakes, but I still got a bit wild in a few sections. It was good to get another win, it was more of a relief than exciting.”
Jonnier was equally dominant and extended her overall women’s elite class points lead on the UCI World Cup MTB DH tour. “It's pretty awesome, I'm really happy,” she said. “I kind of put too much pressure on myself at the start, after winning 4 world cups in a row. I really wanted this one to make a 5th one. I wasn't myself in the gate, I was way too nervous compared to normal. The track wasn't my conditions - I don’t like the wet. I am really happy with my result. it's awesome. I don't really care about the overall (points), I just want to win and be happy on my bike.” Jonnier is now well out in front of fellow French countrywoman Emmeline Ragot and Great Britain’s Tracy Moseley.
Rounding out the top Monster Energy scorers in DH was Hill’s Monster Energy/Specialized teammate, Brendan Fairclough, who placed 8th in the men’s elite class.
In 4x, as it has been all season, Graves dominated the field in taking his second-straight overall UCI World Cup 4x title. “Gold today,” beamed Graves. “ It was good to get the series wrapped up and get the win. I've done both of them, it's what I have been working for the last eight months flat out. Now I can focus on Worlds, it's another huge goal for my year. I'm super happy to get this one done. I've been after this for so many years, so to get this one it's unreal. I rode downhill today and got a flat tire, so this makes up for it I guess!”

Monster Energy's Edwards storms to first podium of 2009 despite damp track; Valentino Rossi extends championship lead with fifth place after crash LONDON (July 27, 2009) An incredible final British Grand Prix at the famous Donington Park circuit saw another Monster Army man take to the MotoGP podium despite the tricky conditions at the Midlands circuit. Some 90,000 race fans attended the parkland track despite the persistent drizzle and witnessed Monster Energy Yamaha Tech 3's Colin Edwards (#5) charging from the back of the pack to challenge for victory in the 30-lap race. Raindrops fell as the riders lined up on the grid, but the majority braved the damp track as they mounted slick tires on their bikes. The "Texas Tornado" Edwards seemed to get quicker as the showers got harder, having climbed to 15th position by the end of the first lap. At one point over thirty-seconds behind the leader, he set off on a charge through the pack which brought him to within a second of the leader. He was unable to close enough on eventual winner Andrea Dovizioso, but a last-lap manoeuvre on France's Randy de Puniet sealed second position for the American, his first podium of the season and the 11th of his career. An exhausted Edwards exclaimed, "That was 48 minutes of bull****! I wouldn't wish a race like that on my worst enemy, it was so mentally draining. I'm too old for this!" He explained his up and down race, "At the beginning the tyre was so cold and couldn't believe how hard everyone was pushing, I didn't want to crash out in the early stages. Gradually I got some heat into it, but the left side was still quite cold. Eventually I made it up to the front but couldn't push any more to take Dovi. In the end I took second by being faster, or maybe dumber than De Puniet!" Meanwhile his Monster Energy colleague Valentino Rossi (Fiat Yamaha #46) demonstrated yet again why he is an eight-time World Champion. Having dealt with the slippery conditions in the early stages, the Italian led the race for several laps before he became another victim of using slick tyres on a damp track. Having watched his main title rival Jorge Lorenzo crash out earlier in the race, Rossi slid out at the Esses, however unlike his Spanish teammate, he was able to remount his ride and take a creditable fifth place in the race. He now leads the championship from Lorenzo by 25 points. "Once Jorge had crashed I was riding to win, as is always my style. In hindsight maybe I should have let Dovizioso pass me for a while but it was difficult to judge in such strange conditions. Riding in the rain with slick tyres is always a risk and it was quite slippery, the turns on the left were all wet which made the left side of the tyre cold and that’s why I crashed. Luckily it was a slow fall and my bike wasn’t hurt much. In fact, my bike was ‘bravissima’ today, both before and after the crash! After that we made a great recovery, I chose to remain with slick tyres despite the rain and the result was eleven points, which are like gold dust for us because we have extended the lead despite what happened here and we’re going on holiday with a good advantage over our rivals. Finally I want to say well done to Dovi but especially to Colin, who rode like a devil today!" Rossi was made to work for fifth on the final lap, as James Toseland (Monster Energy Yamaha Tech 3) had a successful return to his home GP. Having crashed out on turn one last year, this time Toseland was on fine form as he steered his M1 hard in the early stages to hang on to sixth position. He was involved in a fierce mid-pack battle, but eventually emerged to chase down the leaders. With Rossi on a charge on the final lap he made a breath-taking pass in the Esses to defend his position, but just succumbed to the Italian in the last corner to finish sixth, equalling his best ever MotoGP finish. “I don't know where to start after a race like that. It was so difficult for the entire race to gauge how much rain was falling and it took incredible concentration. I made up a few places and was fifth for the final few laps and thinking I was going to get my best ever MotoGP result. That would have been amazing to do that in front of my home crowd, who were absolutely magnificent with their support today. But at the end Valentino (Rossi) came through so strong on the last lap. He passed me at The Esses but I managed to dive back under him, but he was phenomenal on the brakes at the Melbourne Loop. I wasn't going to try and do anything that might take us both out but it's another sixth place and it definitely makes amends for the big disappointment of last year. Congratulations to Colin too because he rode a great race and deserved a podium.” The British Grand Prix wasn't such a happy affair for Monster Energy's 125cc riders, with both Bradley Smith (Bancaja Aspar #38) and Danny Webb (DeGraaf Grand Prix #99) crashing out. Smith had started from pole position and kept in touch with the front group for the first part of the race, with Webb slipping out on the first lap. The intermittent rain brought a halt to proceedings, and a second five-lap sprint decided the outcome. Smith was leading on the first lap of the shortened event, before he slid out at Coppice corner, only able to remount to twentieth. The riders take a short break before the next round of the series at the Brno circuit in the Czech Republic, which takes place on August 16th. About Monster Energy Monster Energy supports the sport. If we are trying to go for that championship, we need consistent finishes. At least we were able to bring home second today, but I really wanted that win.” Hacking is in 3rd place in the overall championship points chase. Monster Energy/Kawasaki’s Roger Lee Hayden also ran into some difficulty on Saturday, but was able to rebound as well with a solid top-five finish (5th) on Sunday. “I knew from my lap timer that I was going pretty quick,” said Hayden. “I was really trying to reel in the front guys, but about halfway through they started pulling away. Fifth isn’t bad. The bike felt a lot better and we are moving in the right direction. We have another test this week so we have a chance to improve even more.” Monster Energy-backed Chaz Davies (Aprilia) was the most consistent racer at Mid Ohio, going 5th and 7th on Saturday and Sunday. Davies is in 7th place overall in the SportBike class standings, just one point back of Chris Peris for 6th (177-176). Monster/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Pourcel places 2nd/2nd for 2nd overall on 250s, teammate Weimer’s 6th; Wey leads Monster Energy-backed racers in 450 class
CORONA, Calif., (July 20, 2009) – Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Christophe Pourcel retained his overall 250 class points lead on the Lucas Oil AMA MX Nationals tour, putting back-to-back 2nd place podium finishes up at Millville’s (Minn.) Spring Creek MX Park to take 2nd place overall. With the effort Pourcel held onto a three-point lead over rival Ryan Dungey in the hotly-contested 250 class points chase. Pourcel leads Dungey 299-296 through seven of 12 rounds of racing. Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Jake Weimer, who was victorious in the previous two rounds (Lakewood, Colo., & RedBud, Mich.), would wind up 6th at Millville with 6th/7th overall moto finishes. And rounding out Monster Energy’s top 250 class points scorers at Millville would be Minnesota local Tucker Hibbert who placed 15th. In the 450 class Monster Energy was led by veteran Nick Wey (Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster/Troy-JLaw Racing) with an 8th place finish (8th/9th). Monster Energy/Kawasaki’s Ricky Dietrich placed just outside the top ten in 11th (14th/11th) and Monster-backed Josh Hill placed 16th after 10th place finish in the opening moto, then pulling out of the second moto on lap nine. Monster/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Jake Weimer has won two-straight 250 class races and teammate Christophe Pourcel leads the 250 class championship chase CORONA, Calif., (July 17, 2009) – Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki riders have been dominating the 2009 Lucas Oil AMA MX Nationals’ 250 class as of late with Jake Weimer winning the past two-straight overall contests while teammate Christophe Pourcel works to build on his 250 class championship points lead as the series heads to Minnesota’s Spring Creek MX Park this Saturday (July 18th). At the series’ past race in Michigan (RedBud), Pourcel’s overall championship points lead remained at 11 points ahead of rival Ryan Dungey. As it stands after six of 12 rounds Pourcel’s up 255 to 246 over Dungey, with Weimer, after scoring limited points at the Freestone (Texas) and High Point (Pa.) rounds, closing fast on the top five. Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Tyla Rattray holds that fifth place spot with 175 points. Also, rookie 250 class racer Max Anstie (Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy-JLaw Racing) had a season-best 6th place moto finish in the second moto at RedBud. In the 450 class Monster Energy’s received its best results recently from a rather unlikely source, Monster Energy/Kawasaki off-road great Ricky Dietrich. The leader of Team USA’s first podium appearance since 1982 in the prestigious global International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) last year, Dietrich took over a factory Kawasaki spot this year with the injuries to Tim Ferry, who’s since returned, and MX Nationals’ round one winner Ryan Villopoto. Dietrich has put up consistent top ten numbers, placing sixth at RedBud as his usual series, the World Off Road Championship Series - aka WORCS - takes the month of July off. “I’ve been having a blast,” said Dietrich, who will begin the title defense of his GEICO Powersports AMA EnduroCross Series ’08 championship next weekend in Las Vegas. “Definitely would like to thank Monster Energy/Kawasaki for the opportunity to race the factory KX450F at the Nationals this summer. I’ve learned a lot and hope to continue racing MX with the team whenever my schedule allows for it.” Two other racers to keep an eye on this weekend running the M-claw logo will be Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy-JLaw Racing’s Nick Wey and Jason Lawrence. Wey, who’s won at Millville before (’99 on 125s), is coming off a solid top ten showing at RedBud and Lawrence, who was ill the week prior to RedBud, should be feeling 100-percent and up to his usual ‘can’t take your eyes off him speed’ at Millville. Warner runs his Kawasaki Ultra 250x to a 1st place finish, topping last year’s winning time by nearly 3 minutes in the Pacific PWC endurance race Photos courtesy of: www.pwcoffshore.com CORONA, Calif., (July 16, 2009) – Monster Energy’s Craig Warner has successfully defended his Long Beach to Catalina And Back Off Shore National Championship personal watercraft (PWC) race, winning the contest by a mile – literally - in an all-Kawasaki podium sweep of the premier pro class. The Mission Viejo (Calif.) native and Kawasaki factory-backed racer ran a similar Ultra 260 jet ski that he won last year’s Catalina Off Shore Nationals with, only this year’s boat had about a 20-horsepower upgrade on its stock production hull. “We ran great,” said Warner. “And had I pushed it coming back I think I’d have had a good shot at the overall record.” Warner’s time of 59 minutes and 27 seconds was highlighted by an all-out run from Long Beach to Catalina in which he averaged around 69 miles per hour, with his fastest speed being 71.1 mph in conditions that were “unique,” according to Warner. “We had four to five-foot swells coming out of the north, with a good amount of wind chop,” he said. “So the boat was going right-to-left a lot and I think that affected some of the other guys, especially early in the race when they were getting used to things.” No acclimation time for Warner as he pinned it right off the line and, though he didn’t grab the holeshot in the 40-man motocross-like start, he did gain the lead early and put himself in a position to force the other racers to battle his wake as well as the natural elements. At the midway point turn-around at Catalina Island, Warner said he went about a mile-and-a-half back towards Long Beach before he passed by the 2nd place racer. “Once I saw what kind of lead I’d built on the way out I was able to back it down and play it safe, running at a quarter to half throttle the rest of the way in,” said Warner, who figured he averaged about 50 mph on the second half of the race. Next up for Warner is the Sept. 3rd PWC Closed Course Nationals in Nashville, Tenn. Warner is looking for redemption versus rival Dustin Farthing, who won the event last year when Warner got taken out in a moto by a lapped rider. Its been a minute since my last update, its been a very hetic few weeks. after the dew tour i went up to wisconsin and did some stuff for mongoose up there, it was a nice change and enjoyed the coolish weather. after that i flew home and got straight into the digging in lavs yard to prepare the jumps for the 4th of july 10 year annerversary jam. the wind held out great for the morning session, but as the day went on the wind picked up as it usually does in vegas. during the heat of the day Lavs and i did some riding for Monster, filmed some stuff and took some still shots as well. It was a lot of fun riding in the heat when most other people were chillin indoors trying not to get heat stroke..but the heat and the wind didnt stop us riding the arvo session either, drinking heaps of Monster Energy drink, eating fat burger and listening to DJ Presto One spin up some sweet as tunes on the new Kicker stereo system that is now hooked up through the yard. the session was pretty gnarly with a lot of hetic trains and over-unders going on through the lines. i think such a big lead up to the jam of digging and riding did a number on my back so from then on out i havent been able to ride my bike. ive been having a few crashes lately and my body is tired and beat. the only way to fix that is rest, so im off my bike for another week or so and then will be back in full force 100% ready for the Dew Tour in Portland. in the mean time i have been in LA at the Maloof Money Cup signing autographs for Skeletal Metal. it was a lot of fun hanging out there and Skeletal Metal have an awesome BMX team that consists of Nasty, Lavs, TJ Ellis, Nate Berkheimer and A-Naps so u know it was a good time had by all hanging out there for a few days and mashing to and from vegas in a private jet. next step for me is to rest up my back 100% so i can ride and feel good on my bike. 2 days ago was the first day that i could put on my own socks since the 3rd of July. i guess thats what happens when you get old hahahaha.
Cheers.. Cam.

The 18-year-old San Diegan tops fellow Monster Energy athlete and defending Maloof Money Cup Skate Vert contest champ Pierre Luc Gagnon for the ’09 title CORONA, Calif., (July 13, 2009) – Monster Energy’s Alex Perelson landed skateboarding’s biggest trick – the 900 – in skateboarding’s biggest contest, the Maloof Money Cup, presented by Monster Energy, and not only walked away $75,000 richer, but with the invaluable respect of his skateboarding peers. Fellow skater and vert legend Bob Burnquist put it best when he said of Perelson, his 900 in competition and overall Maloof Vert win: “It’s beautiful. It just feels like vert skating is in great hands.” A highly-specialized form of skateboarding that only a handful in the world really excel at, the young Perelson is viewed as the future of the sport of vert. And his win at Maloof’s should no doubt foreshadow what could turn into a hotly-contested battle on the U-shaped ramps this summer, especially versus fellow Monster Energy General Pierre Luc “PLG” Gagnon, who placed 2nd to Perelson this past weekend. Said Perelson of his 900-degree spin: “It was so weird just because of the crazy situation it was in. I don’t know, maybe it will sink in later. It just feels like I was either trying to kill myself, or make it…I made it.” Added Monster Energy skate category manager, Cody Dresser: “I am so proud of the kid - this is Alex’ year! It was only a matter of time before Alex skated to his abilities at a contest, and at Maloof, Perelson truly took it next level. Now armed with the 900, the heir apparent and the reigning king PLG are set up for some healthy teammate competition.” On the Maloof Street course Monster Energy’s Greg Lutzka was on point, finishing 11th in the semis and 7th overall. Up against a bunch of guys he topped earlier this year in winning his second-straight Tampa Pro street contest, Lutzka’s day was highlighted by a couple big 180 and switch 180 ollies off the big steps at the purpose-built Maloof Street course, along with a slick 270 to frontside lipslide on the short rail. Cameras are following Capes and his entourage – all hotwired on Monster - for an upcoming television series highlighting the ballsiest guy arounds' escapades
CORONA, Calif., (July 13, 2009) – Take the guy who’s caught the most air ever on a dirt bike, toss in all his rowdy friends, drop off a pallet of Monster Energy product, introduce them to a camera crew and you’ve got the makings for a new reality show dubbed “American Daredevil,” presented by Monster Energy.
With a pilot episode already in the books, Monster Energy’s Ryan Capes will wick up the action here later this month with his first big jump of the ’09 season – a 250F world record attempt at West Virginia’s July 23-26 “Mountainfest” – a gathering of bikers, country music fans, the Budweiser Burnout Bike, a “The Came Bronson” tribute to the 1960s/early 70s TV show and, of course, professional midget wrestlers.
But headlining the event, as he does wherever he shows up to jump, will be Capes – the American Daredevil himself. “I’m gonna jump over some Budweiser semis,” he says. And when one of his crew yells “How many?,” Capes answered “What’s the world record? I should know this.”
Capes says he’ll huck his Pro Circuit-tuned Mt. Baker Motor-Sports Kawasaki KX250F out well past the 200-foot range, setting a new world record for the furthest 250F jump. “I dunno, maybe we can fit 18 (semis) into the gap?,” he adds.
Mountainfest and the 70,000-plus bikers and onlookers expected to attend will be the first of a number of stops on Capes’ cross-country American Daredevil tour. The entire schedule will be released on that shortly, once everything’s shored up here in a couple weeks. Capes says that some sort of record will fall at every event he boots up and jumps at.
“Every fan attending the American Daredevil tour stops will be able to say they witnessed a world record jump of some sort,” said Capes. “And everything will come to a head this October when we end up back out west and set up to smash that 400-foot barrier.”
In addition to Monster Energy, Capes is helped out by the following sponsors: Pro Circuit, Ogio, Von Zipper, Fox, Kicker, Uni Filters, One Industries, BBR, Asterisk, KMC Wheels, Works Connection, Skullcandy, Pit Posse, D.I.D, Maxima Oil, Pro Taper, Dunlop Tires, Acerbis, Hinson Racing Components, Boyesen.

Monster’s Lavin hosts with help from his M-claw teammate, Cameron White, and everyone kicks down a bit for buddy Stephen Murray – who was on hand as well Photos courtesy of: Fat Tony CORONA, Calif., (July 8, 2009) – Monster Energy’s BMXer/musician T.J. Lavin opened up his Las Vegas digs to a bunch of friends and BMX enthusiasts here recently for the tenth running of the Backyard Jam, an informal BMX dirt jumping session that draws a crew worthy of a Dew Tour stop roster. With Monster Energy product flowing and the BBQ shooting flames up high enough to singe the Fatburgers, Lavin’s once-a-year backyard dirt set up is like the Shangri-La of BMX sessions. And even cooler is the fact they got buddy Stephen Murray out to Vegas to hang with his Sting Ray brethren, all of whom threw down despite some gnarly wind conditions and searing desert heat. “Seems like my whole life has been spent building trails and jumps – only to have them torn down,” said Lavin. “So to look back at the past ten years, I can’t believe what fun I’ve had here on that little triangular piece of property with my friends and our bikes.” Added Lavin’s Monster Energy BMX dirt jumping teammate, Cameron White: “We put in a bunch of time getting T.J.’s yard looking good and I think people saw a pretty good show.” Fat on burgers and tingling on Monsters, those in attendance even dug down a bit and sent Murray home with a few extra bucks – something Lavin’s been involved with since Day One with is injured friend. “It’s always nice to have a good deed to go with the event,” said Lavin. “And I can’t think of anyone I’d rather help out than Stephen.” In addition to Fat Tony hooking Monster Energy up with some bitchin’ photos, there’s a really good photo gallery on Transworld BMX’s website of Lavin’s Backyard Jam as well. Rd. 2 of the Monster Energy Triple Crown of Motocross awaits round one winner, Monster/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Pourcel; teammate Weimer looks for second win CORONA, Calif., (July 3, 2009) – Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki teammates Christophe Pourcel, the current 250 class points leader, and Jake Weimer, winner of last week’s 250 class Colorado round of the 2009 Lucas Oil AMA MX Nationals, head up this weekend’s Monster Assault on the famed RedBud MX National circuit in Buchanan, Mich. Pourcel, winner of the opening 2009 Monster Energy Triple Crown of Motocross, is leading the overall 250 class points chase after rival Ryan Dungey failed to make the podium for the first time this year and Pourcel cruised to victory in the first moto, then placed 2nd overall to Weimer. Pourcel’s lead of two points entering the Colorado round swelled to nine points, 217-208, for the overall 250 class championship heading into RedBud this weekend. In 450 class action Monster Energy/Kawasaki’s Tim Ferry, who was on the sidelines for the first four rounds of the MX Nationals following foot surgery, returned to action last week in Colorado and had some pretty solid results (12th/22nd), but should improve on that at RedBud. Ferry’s teammate, Ricky Dietrich – who was just named to this year’s Team USA International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) squad - has consistently been Monster Energy’s top placer in the 450 class, scoring his third-straight top six finish last weekend in Colorado. Also, RedBud marks the homecoming race for Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy-JLaw Racing’s Nick Wey, a native of DeWitt, Mich. Paulin takes crucial third place to close gap to championship leader; In MX1 Philippaerts finishes just outside the podium places LONDON (July 6, 2009) A trip north to Scandinavia and the dips-and-weaves of the Uddevalla circuit brought the Monster Army crew from the FIM Motocross World Championship to Sweden for the 11th of 15 in the series. Under cloudy skies and watched by 22,000 spectators crammed into the nooks-and-crannies of the adjacent rocky hillside, Monster Energy’s Bud Racing Kawasaki rider Gautier Paulin finished third overall in the MX2 class and gained precious points against non-participating class leader Marvin Musquin. The French teenager, European Champion in 2007, defied a first race crash and eighth place to fight back to a steady second position in the second moto across a rough but curiously slippery terrain, with hard ground underneath the fine dirt forcing the riders to adopt a degree of caution. With Musquin facing a legal dispute over his defection from a private Honda team to the works KTM set-up midway through the season, Paulin was able to reduce his countryman’s advantage in the standings from 47 to 13 points with 200 left to win in the remaining four rounds and trips to Belgium, Czech Republic, Holland and Brazil. “I am not happy with my first race because I had a good start and a few decent laps but then had a big crash,” he recalled. “I came back to eighth but was disappointed with how things had gone. This is the world championship so when you lose a second to a rider it is hard to win it back and I lost ground at the start of the second moto to Goncalves. The track was very difficult and slippery with many ruts but the bike worked well and I felt good, so second place was all right. I will work really hard to be ready for the sand now; my goal is to win this championship.” Team CLS Kawasaki’s Steven Frossard was third in the first moto for Monster Energy, but tweaked the right ankle he twisted last week and was forced to pull out of the second affair. Yamaha Monster Energy Ricci MX Team’s Davide Guarneri defied a shoulder injury from a Saturday practice spill and two pain killing injections to be fourth overall and notch his eighth top-four finish this season. The Italian only just remains in the title hunt and stares at a 27 deficit to Paulin and 40 to Musquin. Monster Energy athletes fill two positions from the top five in the MX1 World Championship standings. Yamaha Monster Energy MX Team’s David Philippaerts was fourth overall at Uddevalla after a poor and lonely first moto run to fifth but unveiled an improved and stronger performance to third in Moto2. The defending world champion is almost back to full fitness after recovering from illness last week. “I felt better in the second moto than the first,” said Philippaerts. “Earlier on I lost lines easily and generally found the race difficult, my start was also poor. In the second race I was better out of the gate and got into third place right away. I knew De Dycker was getting close to me sometimes but there was no risk of losing the position, especially because at the finish he was probably more tired than me. Physically I feel that I am getting back to normal after my illness last week and this was a consistent result.” Teammate in the Monster Energy-backed factory Yamaha squad, Josh Coppins, was not able to repeat his podium-slot winning form from Latvia last week. The Kiwi admitted he was off the pace and a gearbox problem in the second moto inhibited his progress. The 32-year-old was seventh in the final event classification. Philippaerts is third in the points table and needs to reduce a gap of 65 to countryman Cairoli. The Grand Prix of Limburg, in the notoriously rough sand of Lommel in Belgium, will be the next world championship appointment for the Monster Energy corps after a summer break of four weeks. The paddock reconvenes for the first of four remaining rounds in the 2009 contest on August 2nd. About Monster Energy Monster Energy supports the sport. Monster Energy’s Italian MotoGP star Rossi extends lead in MotoGP World Championship; takes second after pushing for the win in the final corner LONDON, (July 6, 2009) The eighth round of the MotoGP World Championship brought the world’s premier motorcycle series to the Californian coast and the Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway for its first stop off on US soil this season. With idyllic weather all weekend, and a crowd of nearly 50,000 packing the grandstands, the scene was set perfect for the 32-lap race. Monster Energy’s reigning World Champion Valentino Rossi (Fiat Yamaha Team #46) took an impressive second position in the race after a fierce battle with his main title rivals, despite suffering from technical glitches throughout the weekend. The Italian had been struggling to find a comfortable setting on his Yamaha M1 that would see him able to make the challenge at the front, battling fiercely with title rivals Jorge Lorenzo and Casey Stoner before coming close to passing eventual winner Dani Pedrosa in the final corner. “I came down the hill in the last lap like a crazy man but it was too risky to overtake!” said Rossi, an eight-time MXGP world champ. “I thought there was a chance to pass on the final corner but unfortunately I was just too far off and it was too much of a risk. Second is good today because we were not in perfect shape here, we missed something in the setting and this is always a hard track anyway, so we have to be happy with these 20 points. We have extended the championship lead so it’s a good result for us.” On the weekend of US Independence Day, it was another positive top seven finish for Texas the Tornado Colin Edwards (Monster Energy Yamaha Tech 3 #5). Like Rossi before him, Edwards had also battled against technical issues on the M1 throughout the weekend, but sealed a comfortable seventh place which moves him up to fifth overall in the championship standings. His Monster Energy Yamaha Tech 3 team-mate James Toseland (#52) did not have such a happy day, having been disqualified from the race after missing the call into the pits for a ride-through penalty. He was harshly adjudged to have jumped the start, and unable to see the warnings, he was forced to bring the bike in to the pits. The MotoGP World Championship reconvenes on European soil in two weeks time, for the German GP at the Sachsenring. About Monster Energy Monster Energy supports the sport. Leading the Monster Energy Attack Kawasaki charge at Laguna Seca was Jamie Hacking, who placed 9th in the SportBike class. Monster/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Pourcel and Makita/Suzuki’s Reed won the opening 250 and 450 class rounds at High Point – can they repeat at Redbud?
CORONA, Calif., (July 1st, 2009) – Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Christophe Pourcel and Makita/Suzuki’s Chad Reed captured the opening rounds of the fifth annual Monster Energy Triple Crown of Motocross earlier this year at High Point Raceway in Mt. Morris, Pa., and are now poised to continue their pursuit of the $25,000 – each – in bonus money at round two of the exciting race series-within-a-series gets set to go off this weekend at RedBud in Buchanan, Mich. The Monster Energy Triple Crown of Motocross is set up to handsomely reward any rider, which this year is now boils down to the 250 class’ Pourcel and 450 class’ Reed, that can sweep their respective class’ main event overall wins at High Point, this weekend at RedBud (Buchanan, Mich.) and Budds Creek, Md., Aug. 22. Pourcel and Reed, each of whom pocketed an additional $3,000 from Monster Energy for their wins at High Point, are now both in line to win an additional $25,000 bonus should they be able to sweep all three rounds. “Everyone at Monster Energy is stoked on the continuation of the Monster Energy Triple Crown at RedBud this weekend in Michigan,” said Monster Energy’s Vipe Desai. “Both Christophe and Chad should be commended for their winning efforts on a tough High Point track and we wish both of them the best of luck in trying to conquer RedBud and the famed ‘LaRocco’s Leap’ (the MX Nationals’ biggest jump). Weather’s supposed to be perfect and RedBud draws about the biggest crowd the Nationals will see all year. So the setting’s ideal for round two of the Monster Energy Triple Crown of Motocross!” RedBud will provide some formidable challenges for both Pourcel and Reed, neither of whom have won on the hallowed grounds of this long-running stop on the MX National tour. A myriad of obstacles await them, the largest looming being that of the awe-inspiring LaRocco’s Leap, tagged with local namesake Mike LaRocco’s name on account of he was the first one to nut up and jump the 120-plus foot monstrosity. Sand, severe elevation changes, a ski jump that nearly marked the end for Makita/Suzuki rider Mike Alessi last year and some 30,000 fans chanting “ReeeedddBuuuddd” will no doubt make for an epic second round of the Monster Energy Triple Crown of Motocross. In addition to Pourcel and Reed, top privateers Steven Clarke and Nick Wey were recipients of generous checks from Monster Energy for their performances at High Point. Both Clarke and Wey received giant checks from Monster Energy for $2,000 each! And RedBud marks the homecoming for Michigan’s Wey, so you can bet he’ll be looking to cash in on that Monster Energy Triple Crown of Motocross privateer money again. The second of the three Monster Energy Triple Crown of Motocross rounds is scheduled for the Saturday, July 4th at RedBud.
