Monster Energy-Backed Team USA Wins ’07 MX Des Nations Title As Monster Athletes Take 6 Of 9 Podiums

Monster’s Ricky Carmichael (Suzuki), Tim Ferry (Monster/Kawasaki) & Ryan Villopoto (Monster/Pro Circuit/Kawi) dominate Moto Des Nats!

CORONA, Calif., (Sept. 25, 2007) – The Monster Energy-backed United States Motocross Des Nations team wrapped up a stellar weekend of racing yesterday at Budds Creek MX Park in Maryland, host of this year’s MX Des Nations – won by Monster Energy Team USA!

Monster Energy Team USA members, led by Monster’s own Ricky Carmichael (Suzuki), along with Tim Ferry (Monster Energy/Kawasaki) and Ryan Villopoto (Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki), swept all three Motocross Des Nations classes for an untouchable score of eight points (MX 1 class/Carmichael, MX2 class/Villopoto and Open class/ Ferry). The next closest nation to the Monster Energy/United States team was France, with 34 points.

“It’s a storybook ending to what looks like the most dominant season ever for a motocross sponsor,” said Monster spokesman Scott Sepkovic of Monster Energy’s 2007 sweep of every major pro American supercross and motocross title – and the now the most prestigious global MX title. “Monster athletes stole the show at the Des Nations at Budds Creek, branding the top of the MX world’s podium with the iconic Monster M-claw logo.”

Both Carmichael and Ferry were involved in pile ups early on in one of their motos, forcing the two veterans to come from behind to make up points to insure their overall class wins. Villopoto was absolutely dominant, going 1-1 for two points in the MX 2 class and winning the overall rider’s title.

Said Carmichael: “I’d like to first congratulate my teammates, Ryan and Timmy, and thank the fans that came out and packed Budds Creek this weekend. It was an outstanding event, I’m pumped we were able to defend our title and this was a great way for me to wrap up the 2007 summer motocross season.”.

In addition to Team USA, Monster Energy scored a podium finish – giving it six of nine total – with Grant Langston (South Africa) in 3rd in the second MX 1 class moto. Monster Energy/Team GPKR’s Sebastien Pourcel led France to its 2nd place finish with a 4-9 (13

points) effort in the MX 1 class.

Some 35 nations competed in the Budd Creek Motocross Des Nations, the 61st running of the event, which is arranged to see which nation can field the best three-man team

In the history of the Motocross Des Nations, Monster Energy/Team USA has won more than any other nation – a total of 18 times, including now being the two-time defending champions (Matterly Basin, UK, in

2006 and Budds Creek, USA, 2007).

Pourcel goes 4-9 in MX 1 class to lead French racers @ Budds Creek, USA

CORONA, Calif., (Sept. 25, 2007) –Monster Energy/Kawasaki/GPKR’s Sebastien Pourcel races to a 4-9 (13 points) two moto finish in the MX 1 class of the 2007 Motocross Des Nations this past weekend at Budds Creek MX Park in Maryland (USA), leading team France to an overall 2nd place finish in the 35 nation event – which was won by the Monster Energy/USA team.

Said Pourcel: “Today I learned a lot and know what I have to do to reach a highest level, and that will give me good informations to prepare next season. The race conditions were demanding with the soft track and the weather, but I gave all what I had with my team-mates to get the best result. Nobody expect our family and team members really believed in us, but we are friends and worked closely together during the entire week. This second place is a great result for us. I will be back in the US soon to prepare the Paris Bercy Supercross.

Mitch Payton from Pro Circuit invited me to come practicing and testing in California, that’s a great opportunity to prepare in the best conditions next season.”

Monster Energy’s Ken Block Races To Victory At Rally Colorado Round Of The Rally America National Series

Block & co-driver Alex Gelsomino move into tie for the overall series lead with the victory; Block dedicates the win to fallen rally driver Colin McRae

CORONA, Calif., (Sept. 25, 2007) –  Monster Energy’s Ken Block and co- driver Alex Gelsomino, competing in Round Eight the 2007 Rally America National Championships, pulled off the team’s second victory of the Rally America National Championship season, winning the penultimate Rally Colorado round in Steamboat Springs, Colo.

Block, piloting his Subaru Impreza WRX STI, is now in 113-113 tie with Subaru teammate Travis Pastrana for the overall series championship with one round remaining – the Lake Superior Rally, Oct.

26-27, in Houghton, Mich., an event in which Block is the defending champion.

"To keep my championship hopes going, I needed to win this event and I did everything possible to do so," explained Block. "This rally really suits me; it's high-speed and requires a lot of commitment! I pushed really hard Saturday morning to build a lead and carry it to the end. Now if we win the final round, we win the championship. I won Lake Superior Rally last year so I am feeling really confident in my chances there."

The win for Block in Colorado was bittersweet in that he’d just lost his good friend, fellow rally driver Colin McRae, in a tragic helicopter accident last week. "I dedicate this win to Colin McRae,"

said Block after the podium ceremony. "It was an honor to call him my friend and I truly enjoyed the few times I competed with him. He is my biggest inspiration in rally and always will be."

Next up for Monster Energy’s Block and the Subaru Team is the ninth and final round of the 2007 Rally America National Championships, Oct. 26-27, in Houghton, Mich.

Monster Energy’s Shane Bonifay Tops The World’s Best Wakeboarders @ Double Or Nothing

Shane uncorks a first-ever toeside backside 720 in competition

CORONA, Calif., (Sept. 25, 2007) – Monster Energy-backed Shane Bonifay stomped the landing on the first-ever toeside backside 720 in competition, winning the “Best Trick” award at the 4th annual Parks Double Or Nothing contest in Lake Wales, Fla.

With 20 of the world’s top wakeboarders all going off, Shane stepped up and crushed it in the Best Trick contest in a session for the record books according to those in attendance.

“Reports from the Double Or Nothing contest said that Shane pretty much dominated the event,” said John Lee, Director of Sports Marketing for Monster. “We’re stoked for Shane and look forward to hearing about his next big wakeboard adventure.”

Shane also received big props for his “Batwing” attempt, which scored

53 video frames on the double up jump. But it was his Best Trick 720 that had everybody reeling.

“That was the first time it was ever landed in a contest,” said Shane’s brother and comp host, Parks Bonifay, of Shane’s toeside backside 720. “This event brought out the highest level of riding… wakeboarding at its max.”

Monster Energy’s John Hopkins 10th @ Japanese GP

Hopkins leads team, but can’t mount a comeback in difficult conditions

CORONA, Calif., (Sept. 25, 2007) – Monster Energy-backed MotoGP racer John Hopkins (Rizla-Suzuki) had a tough go of it on the Japanese Motegi GP course this past weekend, struggling in the rain early then coming back from 16th to make the top ten overall.

With the Rizla-Suzuki team-leading effort Hopkins actually moved up to 4th overall in the standings, a few points ahead of teammate Chris Vermeulen (156-152).

Said Hopkins: “The race was all over the place with the drying track.

I think I chose a bit too soft of a compound when we first went out and I was sliding around a lot and lost quite a bit of time. I came in and got the dry bike and set about working as hard as I could. I ran off the track once and we had a couple of little mechanical issues, but nothing too serious. We needed to salvage some points from today and we did that. I would like to say congratulations to Casey (Stoner) on winning the championship today – he certainly deserves it. Other than that I hope we have a lot better time in the next three races than we did at this one!”

Next up for Monster’s Hopkins is the Oct. 14th running of the Australian GP on Phillip Island – Round 16 of the 2007 MotoGP Series .

Monster Energy Has Team USA's Back In This Weekend's Motocross Des Nations @ Budds Creek MX Park!

Monster Energy's Ricky Carmichael (Suzuki) leads Team USA, along with Monster-backed Tim Ferry (Kawasaki) & Ryan Villopoto (Pro Circuit/

Kawasaki)

CORONA, Calif., (Sept. 19, 2007) - Monster Energy checks in this weekend as the official sponsor of Team USA in the 61st running of the Motocross Des Nations - pitting the top three motocross racers from 35 countries in team scoring race set to decide which nation fields the world's best three-man motocross team.

Representing the Monster Energy-backed Team USA will be the winningest American motocross racer of all time, Monster Energy's own Ricky Carmichael (Makita/Suzuki). Carmichael will be joined by former AMA 125 class supercross champion Tim Ferry (Monster Energy/Kawasaki) and two-time defending AMA Outdoor Nationals Lites class champion, Ryan Villopoto (Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki).

"This is the first time Monster Energy has been involved as the title sponsor of Team USA with the Motocross Des Nations and we're all looking forward to this historic event's return to the United States for the first time in 20 years," said Monster spokesman Scott Sepkovic. "It was a banner year for Monster in motocross as our athletes won everything there was to win in '07 - the AMA Supercross championship (Monster Energy/Kawasaki's James Stewart), World Supercross GP (Stewart), both AMA Supercross Lites titles with the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team (Villopoto/West, Ben Townley/ East), the Outdoor Nationals title (Monster Energy's Grant Langston/

Yamaha) and the Outdoor Nationals Lites title (Villopoto).

"So a win for Monster Energy/Team USA at the Des Nations this weekend would be an excellent exclamation point on what was a perfect year of pro motocross racing for Monster here in the United States."

In addition to Team USA, Monster Energy will also be represented with the aforementioned Grant Langston (South Africa) and Ben Townley (New Zealand), along with Sebastien Pourcel (France).

In the history of the Motocross Des Nations, Monster Energy/Team USA has won more than any other nation - a total of 17 times, including being the defending champions from last year's event at Matterly Basin, UK.

"There's no better feeling in the world than standing on top of the podium representing the United States at the Des Nations," said Carmichael, who was injured for the Des Nations last year, but led Monster Energy/Team USA to victory in Ernee, France in '05. "My experiences at that race have been some of the most memorable of my career and I'm glad Monster is on board with Team USA this year."

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Monster Energy Athletes Are Back In Action This Weekend @ Dew Tour Stop In Salt Lake City!

Monster FMXers Nate Adams & Adam Jones are 1-2 in standings, while Monster’s BMX Vert star Jamie Bestwick rules the Tour halfpipe

CORONA, Calif., (Sept. 19, 2007) – Monster Energy’s premier action sports athletes return to action this weekend on NBC Sports for the fourth round of the white-hot Dew Tour, set to go off beginning tomorrow in mountain sports-friendly Salt Lake City.

“Everybody at Monster Energy is looking forward to seeing our high-powered stable of athletes back at it this weekend in Utah,” said John Lee, Director of Sports Marketing for Monster Energy. “They’ve got a tough act to follow in terms of the success they enjoyed at the last Dew Tour round in Portland (Ore., Vans Invitational), but I’ve got a feeling things are going to pop for Monster Energy again at Salt Lake City.”

Lee’s reference to Portland was highlighted by the fact that Monster Energy-backed athletes swept all but two of the possible six gold medals available (four of six), mining gold in Skate Park (Greg Lutzka), BMX Vert (Jamie Bestwick), BMX Park (Mike Spinner) and FMX (Adam Jones).

In addition, Monster Energy athletes Pierre Luc “PLG” Gagnon, Dave Mirra and Nate Adams all came away with silver medals from the Portland round, giving Monster Energy an incredible seven medals in six events.

Here’s a look at this weekend’s competition and where the Monster Energy athletes stand in the overall points after three rounds of Dew Tour action:

FMX

Salt Lake City’s Energy Solutions Arena should be highlighted by Monster Energy’s Nate Adams & Adam Jones this weekend. Adams currently leads the points 275-204 over Jones for 1st place, but Jones is coming on like a hurricane – winning the last round in Portland. The two also battled for supremacy early in the summer at X Games.

BMX Vert

After a rare loss at the Cleveland Dew Tour stop, Jamie Bestwick rallied back on his glowing green/yellow bike – kind of a cross between the Original Monster and Monster M-80 cans – and won Round Three @ Portland, giving him two of three golds thus far this summer on the vert ramp. Bestwick’s got a comfortable lead in the overall points, 30 clicks ahead of Simon Tabron (243-213).

BMX Park

The BIG news as of late in the BMX world was the break through of Mike Spinner into the upper echelon of BMX Park, un-seeding Rounds One & Two Dew Tour winner Daniel Dhers @ Portland. When Spinner puts it together, as he nearly did at the Baltimore opener as well, he’s unstoppable. Add Dave Mirra to that equation and the two are likely to dominate the podium again at Salt Lake City.

BMX Dirt

Monster Energy’s Ryan Guettler – the 2005 Dew Tour BMX Dirt champion – is currently in 11th place overall, but has improved each round in the standings.  Guettler completed the first double back flip landed in competition.

Skate Park

Greg Lutzka did it at Portland, and arguably did it at Baltimore as well, when he topped two-time defending Dew Tour Skate Park champion Ryan Sheckler. The two are in a heated battle for the overall title, 275-218, but the 57-point difference pretty much puts Lutzka in a ‘must win’ situation at Salt Lake City. The only other guy to beat Sheckler, Jereme Rogers, is in 8th place overall in the Skate Park standings.

Skate Vert

Monster Energy’s got four guys in the top 13 in the standings; PLG (5th), upstart Alex Perelson (7th), Jean Postec (11th) and Jake Brown (13th). Out of those four PLG’s got the best shot at stopping Shaun White – who’s won the first three rounds. In fact, at Portland PLG led White up to White’s very last run, where he was able to put it together and top PLG – the 2005 Dew Tour Skate Vert runner-up.

Next up for the Monster athletes on the Dew Tour is this weekend’s (Sept. 20-23) Toyota Challenge in Salt Lake City.

Monster Energy MX Crossover Series Final Concludes @ Glen Helen Raceway

BMXer Aaron Cooke and journalist Brendan Lutes (motocross.com) both take class victories at final round of Monster's popular celebrity MX event

CORONA, Calif., (Sept. 8, 2007) -  The 2007 Monster Energy MX Crossover Series, featuring the Java Monster Media Throw Down, came to an exciting conclusion on Friday at Glen Helen Raceway (San Bernardino, Calif.), with BMXer Aaron Cooke and journalist Brendan Lutes (motocross.com) winning their respective classes.

Cooke also was able to outlast skier K.C. Deane to win the overall Monster Energy MX Crossover Series tile, with fellow BMXer Jimmy Garcia (2nd) and freeskier Gunnar Newquist (3rd) making up the overall series podium. Note:

Deane, who won the Hangtown round, suffered a DNF in the first moto on Friday due to mechanical failure.

"Between myself, K.C. and Ian Price (snowboarder), it was a toss up as to who'd take the overall," said Cooke. "Price and I have had some great battles over the last five summers, but he wasn't able to make it down to race. So it came down to me and K.C. and I caught a break when he had some bike troubles and I scored the o/a. Thanks again to Monster and the rest of the sponsors (Dunlop, Graphics Lab/Throttle Jockey, Sessions & Spy) for stepping up to put this event on. Great turnout again and everybody had a blast."

The first moto on Friday received an additional boost when of of the greatest athletes of our generation, Shaun Palmer, rolled in, booted up and kicked his Honda 250 two-stroke out into a commanding lead.

But held up in the gate - on purpose - were a couple MX sharks in David Pingree (Racer X) and his equally fast buddy, Brock Sellards.

The two were turned loose on the rest of the surfers, skaters, skiers, BMXers, wakeboarders, musicians and journalists running in the same gate in the Java Monster Media Throw Down and made quick work of the field - sans Palmer.

But in the end Palmer would succeed the lead on the last of four laps to Pingree and Sellards, as Sellards went on to catch Pingree late to take 1st.

Said Palmer as he took off his "It's A Good Day To Die"- emblazoned helmet:

"I was scared. I'm out of shape and shouldn't have been riding that fast."

Palmer then split, opting out of the second moto - as did Pingree and Sellards.

The second Monster Energy MX Crossover Series moto was highlighted by the riding of Deane and snocross racer Steve Martin (fresh off arm surgery). The two made up for first-moto issues and went 1-2, with Cooke coming in 3rd.

Then joining Cooke (1st) and Martin (2nd) on the overall podium was U.S. Ski Team member Daron Rahlves.

"I think that second moto was the best I've ever ridden," said Rahlves, America's most successful World Cup speed events (Super G/

Dowhnill) skier of all time. "That was an absolute blast."

The Java Monster Media Throw Down turned out to be equally exciting as Lutes and Dirt Riders's Jimmy Lewis went at it hard in both motos with Lutes winning the second moto by several seconds to take the 2-1 win over Lewis'

1-2 performance.

"This was a lot of fun," said Lutes. "I haven't really raced much at all this summer so it felt good to get back out there. I was impressed with the ability level of a lot of these guys who specialize in other sports. It's cool to see them out here at Glen Helen racing amateurs all week and the Monster event today."

Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Villopoto Takes A Big Step In

Defending His ’06 Lites Title

Monster/PC/Kawi’s Ryan Villopoto (1st), Ben Townley (3rd) and Austin

Stroupe (10th) are the fastest three racers at inaugural Freestone

National

CORONA, Calif., (Sept. 2, 2007) – The Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/

Kawasaki Lites class bikes were tuned to the nines and absolutely

FLYING at the inaugural Monster Energy/Tetco Freestone (Texas) MX

National on Sunday, clocking the top three fastest times in each of

the two motos.

Able to hold onto that hyper-fast KX250F  bike the best was Ryan

Villopoto, who took a massive step in defending his 2006 overall AMA

Lites class title by going 1-1 in the two moto event and extending

his series lead to 19 points over Monster Energy-backed teammate Ben

Townley.

“It’s nice to have the lead heading into Glen Helen, but the series

is far from over,” said Villopoto, who won for the fifth time this

season. “Ben (Townley) proved in the first moto that he still wants

it as bad as I do.”

Townley, who went down on the first turn on the first lap of moto

one, battled back valiantly from 35th place to finish 6th. The New

Zealander then stayed upright in the second moto, finishing 2nd to

Villopoto to take 3rd overall and giving Monster two of the three

podium spots.

Also ripping up the Texas countryside was Monster/Pro Circuit/

Kawasaki’s Austin Stroupe. The rookie racer scored a 2nd place finish

in the first moto and was poised to make the podium when a second

moto sketch took him out of contention. Still, his 2-35/10th place

performance put him in the top ten for the second consecutive week.

And teammate Bret Metcalfe would race to a solid 4th place finish

overall with a 4-6 two moto finish – just behind Townley.

But the racer that set himself apart from the rest was Villopoto.

Case-in-point was his first moto time of 2:14.337 – a lap run nearly

two seconds faster than the next closest competitor (Stroupe). In

all, Monster/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki bikes went 1-2-3 in terms of

fastest lap times in both motos!

Next up for the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team is the Sept.

9th Glen Helen MX National final in San Bernardino, Calif., Round 12

of the 2007 AMA Toyota Motocross Championships.

Glen Helen MX National

Pro snowboarders, skiers, skateboarders, surfers, BMX racers and

freestylers and musicians – along with the top industry media members

- headline this Friday’s celebrity motocross race event at Glen Helen

CORONA, Calif., (Sept. 5, 2007) –  The second installment of the fun-

as-heck 2007 Monster Energy MX Crossover Series, featuring the Java

help launch what should prove to be a thoroughly exciting weekend of

“Dirt bikes, gas & gravity in the San Bernardino foothills - it’s a

snocross racer Steve Martin (former Monster/Hangtown MX Crossover

magazine hot shots are scheduled to show up to challenge the Dirt

Rider guys, including Transworld MX’s Donn Maeda, Racer X’s David

Pingree and Billy Ursic and motocross.com’s Brendan Lutes.

Note: The industry guys must be proficient in QuarkXPress 7 in order

to qualify for trophies!

“The Monster Energy MX Crossover up in NorCal was a big hit to open

the Outdoor Nationals season and we’re expecting the one this weekend

at Glen Helen to be just as big,” said John Lee, Sports Marketing

Director for Monster Beverage Company. “This event really allows

other top-level action sports athletes to showcase their passion for

Monster Energy’s Grant Langston Tops The MX Class Field @ Inaugural

Freestone (Texas) MX National!

Langston (Yamaha) extends his overall series points lead over Red

Bull-backed rival Mike Alessi and factory Honda’s Andrew Short

CORONA, Calif., (Sept. 3, 2007) – Monster Energy’s Grant Langston

(Yamaha) took another step towards securing the 2007 AMA Toyota

Motocross Championship this past weekend by taking the overall

victory at the inaugural Monster Energy/Tetco Freestone MX National

in Wortham, Texas.

Langston highlighted a consistent yet excitingly fast weekend with a

1st place effort in the second moto to seal the overall win. In doing

so Langston dispatched of rival Mike Alessi on the third lap, then

two laps later passed the fastest (time-wise) racer of the weekend,

Andrew Short, and took charge of the race from lap five on through

the checkers – winning by more than eight seconds to take the 2-1

overall event win.

“It’s all coming down to Glen Helen this weekend,” said Langston.

“And I’m sure the Corona-based Monster Army will be out in force,

pulling for all the Monster guys. I’ve been in a similar situation as

this back in 2001 at Steel City, so I’m looking forward to having

that added support as it’s going to be an intense two motos.”

The Steel City event Langston alluded to was when he ended up losing

the overall 125 title to Mike Brown in the last moto of the season –

one of the most exciting endings to an AMA motocross championship in

recent years. Langston would avenge that loss in 2003, winning the

overall 125 class title and making him the first (and only) rider to

win both an FIM World GP title and AMA 125 class title.

Heading into this weekend’s Glen Helen National Langston holds an

eight-point lead over Short, with a 13-point edge on Monster Energy/

Kawasaki’s Tim Ferry and a 15-point lead over Alessi.

Next up for the Monster Energy’s Langston is the finals of the 2007

AMA Toyota Motocross Championship at Glen Helen Raceway in San

Bernardino, Calif. (Sept. 9th).
