WORCS Racing

I dropped out of the Canadian Nationals as it headed back East for the the final 4 rounds. I decided to try my first WORCS race at the local round 7 in Olympia, Washington. It was quite an experience, and according to most racers the toughest race of the year. Heavy rain prior to the race and the first WORCS Cross course incorporated into the PRO 1 race, made it an eye opening introduction to this series. I got a terrible start, struggled with arm pump and dehydration, but finished a very repectable 14th ahead of some Factory guys. So now I'm hooked. I raced round 8 in Utah, but I DNF when my motor blew up after 1 lap. I raced round 9 at Milford, CA and finished 13th after 26th place first lap. WORCS is something I wish to continue to pursue. I will race the remaining rounds of the 2008 series and likely race the entire 2009 series.

Canada MX1 Results

Even though I was unable to attend the final 4 rounds of the Canadian Nationals, I ended the season in 16th place overall in MX1. My Canadian National number for 2009 is 38. Thank you again to all my sponsors and fans. See you in the States soon for WORCS outdoor racing and AMA Supercross.

Mid Season Canadian Nationals

I'm back out West and it's mid season for the Canadian Nationals. Through 5 of 9 rounds I'm 13th overall in the MX1 class. My season got off to a rough start when my truck went off the road and was totaled on the way to the first round of the series. I was beat up a little bit, but walked away. My bikes looked pretty rough and I lost my best friend (my English Bulldog, Diesel). With all the down time from the truck accident, I started slow and have been racing myself back into shape. With the price of travel being so high I have decided to not follow the series as it returns back East. I want to thank all my sponsors for their support in Canada and especially FXR gear, MB1 suspension and MDK Speed motor work. I will race my first AMA Motocross National at Washougal and then some rounds of the WORCS series and see what happens from there.

I'M Back for Canadian Nationals

Well its mid April and I have recovered from my injury at the Phoenix Supercross. I have been in aggressive physical theropy and exercise off the bike for 3 months now. I started riding for two weeks ago and I feel good. RacerX Canada posted a notice online that I was looking for a ride for the Outdoor Nationals. I received an offer within 24hrs of the posting and will be riding the entire Canadian Outdoor Nationals for Team FXR Racing. I’m still working to line up additional sponsors. Mike Battista of MB1 Suspensions will be providing his excellent work throughout the series. I will be racing a Honda CRF450 in the MX1 class, so stay tuned.

Phoenix SX on Speed TV

Pheonix Supercross started out good. The weather was good (it had a roof) so we got two qualifying practices not just one. I qualified into the night show in my first practice, but really stepped it up in the second practice. During the second practice my time among the non-seeded riders varied between 1^st and 5^th fastest, ending 3^rd in my qualifier and 29^th overall. In my heat race I got a decent start, but got taken wide in the first turn. I rounded the first lap in 16^th place. I gradually moved up, missed a direct transfer by finishing 11^th. I lined up for the 4 lap LCQ determined to qualify for the main. I got a good start, rounding the first turn in 3^rd place. I held strong in third place for three laps when Andrew McFarland finally got by me. I was still in 4^th, the final qualifing spot on the last lap. I survived two very hard block pass hits by the rider behind me until he hit the back of my bike a third time while I was beginning to triple into the rhythm section. My bike was knocked sideways in the air and when I hit the ground my right leg was under 3 bikes and riders. I broke my femur in 2 places and was out for the rest of the Supercross season. My only claim to fame from this event is the crash being shown on Speed TV at the beginning of every subsequent Lites broadcast. I know I can run the pace and make main events in Supercross; I’ll just have to wait for the 2009 season.

Anaheim 1 Night Show

My second ever Supercross went good and bad. Of the 70 lites riders trying to qualify for the 40 rider night program I qualified into the night program with 12 fastest time in my non-seeded qualifier and 37th overall. Second practice was canceled due to the threat of bad weather. I rode tight in my heat race finishing 13th of 20, but needed 9th for a direct main transfer. I rode good in the 22 rider LCQ, but didn't get the start I needed and finished 7th.

AMA Arenacross Lites 2nd Place

Good and bad news from AMA Arenacross at Reno. I was good in practice Friday. Qualified for the night show in both classes. In first Lites heat race I tangled with another rider in the run up to the 60 feet catapult jump and bike shifted to first gear. I was committed to the jump but came up Wayyyyy short. Stayed on the bike but had to pull out of the race with blurred vision and swollen neck. Later that night I qualified from the LCQ's to make the mains in both Lites and AX classes.

Friday night Lites main event Istarted from the second row. I moved to 4th by the 3rd lap and 2nd by the 6th lap. Rode well, but Reardon was long gone by the time I got to 2nd. Finished 2nd, 1/4 lap ahead for 3rd place. Still hurting bad from the accident earlier.

Friday night AX main event I started from the second row, but by the 2nd lap was up to 5th. Stayed in 5th for half the race, then pain and blurred vision slowed my pace. Held on to finish 13th.

Saturday morning rode practice and it just did not feel right so we all decided best to not race and try to start healing for Anaheim.

Wonder Warthog Team Tryout

I recently participated in a timed tryout for the Wonder Warthog Racinig team. I am proud to announce I post the fastest lap times of the tryout and this was on my Outdoor settings. I got a chance to ride the MDK Hondas and they are fast. Hopefully this will lead to an offer from WWR, MDK or others. I'm looking forward to Supercross West Lites in January.

Toyota TMX Athlete Program Top 20

In only my first year as an “A” rider I earned a place in the Toyota Top 20, Stage 4 of the process. I was selected as one of the 20 most qualified riders selected from 3000 candidates to have the opportunity to be selected for a full factory satellite team ride for 2008, Stage 5 of the process. I was not selected, that honor went to Wil Hahn, a second year “A” rider. I am confident that my performances made the selection a difficult one.

In Stage 3 of the process, 462 riders, I finished 1^st in both classes I entered. At the Northwest Regional Qualifier for Loretta Lynn’s National Championship I won Motocross A/Pro Sport and MX Lites A/ Pro Sport.

In Stage 4 of the process, 20 riders, I finished 5^th in Motocross A/ Pro Sport and outside the top 5 with mechanical difficulties in every moto of MX Lites A/ Pro Sport.

It is a great honor to be considered one of the 20 best new Pro riders in the country. I will continue to improve my program to secure a Team ride for 2008 Supercross and Motocross.

I did well a Loretta Lynn's again this year with a solid 5th overall in Motocross A/Pro Sport. Unfortunately, I had major mechanical problems in all three motos of Lites A/Pro Sport. In Lites practice I blew up my new race motor, so had to try to rebuild it before Moto 1. Special thanks to Honda of Houston Shaun, Dave and especially, Adam who did much of the work. But, even after the rebuilt, the motor still did not sound right, so we raced the practice motor and bike. In moto 1 I was about 10th on the start and passed 4 guys in the 10 commandments, but blew my rear tire when I landed the exit triple on the first lap. 25 minutes on a flat tire at this big race was not fun. In moto 2, my fuel screw fell out on the parade lap. With only a 2 minute hold, my mechanic Matt, raced back to the pit, found a replacement and ran back to the start. That was another terrible feeling to watch 41 other guys blast off the line as I waited for the fuel screw. But, I rode well, after starting 42nd plus 30-40 seconds, I worked my way all the way up to 13th. Moto 3 I thought would be the one, as the gate dropped I was in 7th and moved into 6th, before the finish line and the red flag which meant a restart. I was not so lucky on the restart with a 20th or so start. I worked my way up to 7th when my brakes locked up an killed the motor. I got going and pulled into the mechanic area, but could not find the problem, so I re-entered the race 25th to 30th and charged back to finish 14th. I know with good equipment and team I can do really well in this class too. Also with a little better luck.

6th in Canadian Nationals Lites West

I finished 6th overall in the Canadian Outdoor Nationals West Lites Series. I am proud of this result considering I competed as a privateer and started the series in 12th at round 1 in the mud at Morden. Even the 12th was a good result considering I was running 4th when my bike stalled and I got lapped before I got it restarted. I charged from 40th to 12th once I got going again. Unfortunately, I was unable to improve my weekend results since the second moto was canceled.

Podium at Canadian Nationals

I made the podium with a 3rd place in moto 1 of the MX2 (Lites) at the 2nd round of the West Coast Canadian Outdoor Nationals Series. I was interviewed by RacerX Canada and it will appear online soon. It was great to be able to thank my sponsors from the podium and for the interview to appear in RacerX Canada. I developed motor trouble in moto 2 and finished 7th. After 2 rounds of the series I am in 6th place overall in MX2 (Lites).

1st in Pro Sport Loretta NW Regional

Great racing a Washougal, Washington for the NW Loretta Lynn Regional. I raced only two classes and was 1st place in both Lites Pro Sport and Motocross Pro Sport. Now on to the Canadian Nationals West Lites Series. It should be good training for Loretta's and the last four AMA Outdoor Nationals I will contest.

The results are in. I finished 20th overall for championship points after racing only 2 of 8 rounds. Next year I may do the entire series and go for the Championship.

Anaheim 3 First SX Lites

I did well in my timed practice, but I was nervous. I was fast enough to qualify for the night show but crashed in my second practice when my bike bogged on a big triple. I ended up with a broken arm and could not ride the night show. However, I felt confident and I will be back.

AMA Pro MX & Lites License

I just received my Pro Motocross and Supercross Lites licenses. I will contest the last 4 rounds of the AMA Supercross Lites West Series as an intern on the Wyvernmotosports team. I will retain all my present sponsors for this series and on into the outdoor season Amateur Nationals series at Lake Whitney, Texas.

Urquhart 10th SX Lites

My first Supercross race in Lites class resulted in a 10th place finish in the main. In my heat race I got push into the tuff blocks and had to start moving up from the back of the pack. Then, after moving forward I went down and could not restart my bike. With only a 4 lap LCQ and last gate pick I was nervous, I got a good start and rode strong for a 2nd in the LCQ. 18th gate pick in the main meant starting outside and hoping for a good jump off the line. In the main I rounded the first turn outside the top 15, but charged hard the whole race and no one passed me so I ended up 10th.

Pro Debut Win

Kevin Urquhart wins very first race as a Pro in the Unlimited Pro Class a Albany Supercross Track, Albany, Oregon. After very impressive top 5 finishes at Ponca City and Loretta Lynn`s in the "B" class Kevin made the jump to "A" class upon returning to the Northwest.

World Minis

Kevin Urquhart (#246) podiumed with a solid 3rd place at World Mini GP, Las Vegas, NV 4/16/06 in the tough 250 B Stock class. Kevin was in solid contention for a second podium in the 250 4-stroke non-pro class went a flat tire slowed him from 3rd to 8th in the main event.
