San Marcos, California (April 6, 2006) Utopia Optics is pleased to announce the addition of American mountain bike hero Eric Carter to the 2007 team! Carter joins Utopia’s family this season as an essential part of our program. Carter’ stature in the mountain bike community solidifies the fact that the Utopia mountain bike program is one of the best & most coveted programs around.

Carter will be representing Utopia Optics worldwide at a variety of mountain bike events, including the NORBA Nationals, World Cups, Sea Otter Classic, World Cup series, select Mega Avalanche races, as well as the World Championships. Although recently regarded as a 4-Cross/MtnX specialist, Carter plans to compete for the coveted NORBA and US titles in both Mtn X and Downhill disciplines!

“I'm excited about being a part of the Utopia family, the product line is awesome, and they support the type of sports that I like to do and watch,” stated Carter.

In his earlier years, Carter was one of the fastest bmx racers around. As a multi-time national & world bmx champion, Carter is regarded as a legend in the sport of bmx. As he stepped up into mountain bike racing, his fierceness and competitive nature never lingered. Carter continued to dominate as he won countless national and world cup championships from disciplines ranging from Dual Slalom, Dual, Mountain Cross, 4-Cross and Downhill. One of his most recent career highlights includes his gold medal winning battle in the 2004 4-Cross World Championships in Les Gets, France.

Carter has taken upon the responsibilities as team manager for the factory Mongoose professional mountain bike team, as well as the Mongoose Tribe regional teams. Renowned for his “intelligent” racing abilities, Carter will share his knowledge and attributes of racing to his teammates, and amateur racers alike.

Utopia team manager, Jeremiah Dylan Dean said, “I’m extremely excited to have EC a part of our team! I’ve always looked up to EC as a racer, and as a professional. He’s a great personality for our sport & one of the best racers in the world! EC’s a class act and a perfect match with Utopia Optics. Eric Carter is already respected as one of the world’s top mountain bike racers. Still in his prime, Carter will continue to dominate each and every race he enters, regardless of competition. Monterey, California, (April 12, 2006) -After a sensational `05 season, the Utopia Optics mountain bike teams continues their dominance in 2006! Under adverse conditions, the world`s fastest racers battled in mud-fested tracks at the Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California. 2005 Gravity Omnium (Overall) & Downhill Champion Jared Graves had another sensational weekend! Once again he has proven that he is a dominant force on the downhill circuit. Jared bested the best downhill racers in the globe, including the current World Downhill Champion Fabien Barel by 4 seconds! After capping of his weekend with a 3rd in Mountain Cross, Jared secured 2nd place overall in the Gravity Omnium competition. In the women`s field, Sabrina Jonnier battled a fierce field to finish 2nd overall in the Gravity Omnium competition. Sabrina kicked off her weekend by securing a victory in the dual slalom & continued her success by landing on the podium at each discipline! Newly signed dirt jumper / slopestyle rider Adam Hauck had an impressive team debut finishing 2nd in the Pro Dirt Jump Contest Utopia would like to thank all the team riders for a truly successful season debut! Utopia Dominates Sea Otter Classic

The Pro Gravity Omnium title honors the best all-around MTB gravity rider. Among pro women, Utopia� rider Sabrina Jonnier was considered the favorite coming into the weekend. On the men`s side, reigning Sea Otter Omnium champion & Utopia� rider, Mick Hannah, was the favorite. 2003 World Cup Champion Nathan Rennie, also sponsored by Utopia�, was also among the riders to watch. The Pro Dual Slalom kicked off the weekend of competitive gravity events. Thousands of spectators lined the course to witness the sheer dominance of Utopia� athletes Nathan Rennie & Sabrina Jonnier ride to their respective wins. There was definitely a good omen for the weekend with two Utopia� athletes sitting on top of the podium. Sea Otter Pro Gravity Omnium activities continued Sunday morning with the Pro Downhill finals. The heavy-hitters were on the attack in the pro women`s competition. Utopia`s� Sabrina Jonnier, considered the `rider to watch` in the event, finished 4th. The competition was extremely tight on the men`s side. Utopia`s� Jared Graves surprised many by setting the time to beat early on which held off many elite riders, including 2004 World Downhill Champion Fabien Barel. Concluding the weekend was the anticipated Pro Mountain Cross finals. Utopia� riders Jared Graves & Sabrina Jonnier made one more bid for the overall Omnium titles battling through rounds of intense competition. Both wrapped up their respected races with a pair of 3rd place finishes. With all the events tallied up in the Pro Gravity Omnium, Utopia`s� riders held 3 prominent positions on the podium. Jared Graves sat on top of the men`s field in 1st place, while Mick Hannah sat in 3rd. On the women`s side, Sabrina Jonnier held off many powerful competitors and wrapped up her weekend 2nd overall. Also taking place this weekend was the Pro Invitational Dirt Jump contest. Battling heavy winds & fierce competition, Paul Basagoitia represented Utopia Optics� with a variety of tricks that landed him into 4th place. Primetime Utopia athletes were also dominating the weekend with Tommy Hollenbaugh winning his downhill class, 30-34 Sport, and Ross Boyes earning 5th in Downhill 15-18. The Pro Gravity Omnium title honors the best all-around MTB gravity riders. It just so happens to be compiled of elite athletes who wear Utopia Optics�. The season looks bright for Utopia in `05! Australian National MTB Championships - Eildon, Victoria, AUS March 18-20, 2005 Utopia Mountain Bike athletes smash the competition in the Australian MTB Championships! French superstar Sabrina Jonnier (Intense-Utopia), winner of the '03 World Cup Series, took the win for a second consecutive year while vacationing 'down under'. However, due to Jonnier`s French nationality, the Aussie title was passed on to Tracey Hannah (who placed 2nd). In controversial circumstances Mick Hannah (Haro-Thor) has won the Australian National DH title over Utopia rider Nathan Rennie (SantaCruz-Utopia). Although not a sponsored rider, Mick Hannah was in fact wearing a set of Utopia 'Too Dirty' mx goggles in his Australian MTB victory! Smart choice! The controversy was concerning some Elite riders purposely holding back so as not to win the supposedly coveted national jersey. Given the strict UCI regulations, which dictate the size of sponsor logos on a national champion`s jersey, some of the major companies gave their riders orders not to win. The rules stipulate that a national champion must wear his/her champions jersey in World Cup qualifying and finals and for this reason, sponsors stepped in to ensure their freedom to advertise on their star riders wasn`t compromised. In between qualifying and finals the pits were abuzz with rulebooks, phone calls to team headquarters and tough decisions being made by the riders. One rider who was very outspoken on the issue was the rider who clocked the fastest time of the day (in qualifying), Nathan Rennie (Santa Cruz-Utopia). "I have orders from a number of my sponsors that look after me quite well who need area on my jersey to promote their product. If I tried to win today then I couldn`t have been loyal to them whatsoever - it`s a catch-22 which sucks. The UCI are being very stubborn with the rule and something needs to change - there are so many options but they are not willing to negotiate." "If the rule stays the same as it is now... I am never going to be national champ. I`ve got a world championship and a world cup overall under my belt... but not this one." Mindful of the difficult predicament the riders were put in by the UCI ruling and the sponsor backlash, the race organizers put up a cash prize for the fastest qualifier to give a rider who was ordered not to win the final a chance to show their true form. With cash up for grabs, many of the elite field smashed their qualifying run, with Utopia rider Nathan Rennie putting together a flawless run to prove a point and smacked down a devastating 2:42.40 (which was actually a full second faster than the winning run of the day!) It looks like it's going to be a very exciting season this summer & Utopia riders are already making their marks on the podium!
