Hot Dogs and Hucks from Norway

We have a group of snow shredders repping Freestyle in Norway, peep their latest release, Hot Dog, the movie.   The intro alone is enough to get you pumped up for a snowboard trip.  Like yesterdays post, this one requires you putting your feet up on the desk, headphones on, and a cold beverage in hand.  Treat yourself to 25 minutes of huge hucks, spins, and rails from Norway!  These guys will be in our Fall 2010 flick, Tick Tock, can't wait to see how big they go this year.



Ben Wilson lands on cover of Kiteboarding Magazine

There's not much that makes Freestyle's Team Manager happier than seeing a magazine cover with an athlete like Ben Wilson rocking logo and watch clear as day.  I tell you what, we are getting real stoked on the kitesurf scene; these guys are really doing some good stuff with the wind while riding regular shortboards, like getting completely tubed out of there minds.  Here's a bit of proof, clear 37 minutes in you schedule, put on your favorite pair of skullcandy's, crack open a frothy one, and enjoy Ben's latest movie, Shades of Green.  This might just be enough to re-adjust your attitude about blown out conditions.

Tick Tock. We are making a snowboard flick.

Hot off the presses, we are producing Freestyle's first official snowboard flick called Tick Tock.  It will be a collaboration of efforts from all our riders from around the globe. Filming starts now, for the entire 2009/10 season leading up to the world premier of Tick Tock in Fall 2010.  The flick will be edited by our friend and rider, Davis Paul.   Now that the snow has been falling, the boys have been out getting some early clips.  Here's a snippet of featured rider Tyy Clark's first session of the season.  Just getting warmed up!







Another win at the Lane for Nat Young

Congratulation's to Freestyle's Nat Young for winning the Oakley Pro Junior.again.  He won in 2007, 2008, and now in 2009; that's what we call a threepeat!  Not to mention his Cold Water Classic victory in 2008.   We first met Nat about 7 years ago at an NSSA contest, he was about 11, and he won that contest too!  Just a great person, a great athlete, and we are stoked to have him representing the brand by rocking the Red Shark all the way to the podium!

Bear Mountain

You can feel it in the air today, a slight nip of cold, a dry wind, and if you're a snowboarder in Southern California you know what that means! Both Bear Mountain and Snow Summit have fired up the snow guns.   One thing's for sure, you don't get a top 10 terrain park rating by waiting around for Mother Nature to do her thing, you got to make it happen. Time to get the board tuned up! Introducing Ben Wilson

Imagine surfing perfect glassy waves, then the wind turns on and blows out your session, you retreat to the beach thinking your surf day is over.  What if, instead of being bummed you we're stoked and just grabbed your kite and went back out and continued the shred fest?  We'll that's the life Ben Wilson lives.  Why let the wind bum you out when can kite with your normal short board, no strap or binding system needed.  Anything to keep us riding more waves is awesome and something worth looking into. We love this satellite image, both for the snow it's hopefully dropping and the waves it's building.  Sorry if this storm is impacting anybody negatively, we are just looking at the positives from a board rider's perspective.  After the storm and winds bail out the waves should be good, maybe Thursday morning.  Let's do this!



No doubt, the ocean is going to get pretty mean over the next couple days!



Monday Blues Breaker

Here's a bit of inspiration to get you through your case of the Mondays and kick start your thoughts about what to do next weekend.  We received this cell phone shot from Big Mountain Skier / B.A.S.E Jump madman, Matthius Giraud who recently solo hiked from the Alta Base to the top of Baldy to get his first tracks of the season.  As you can see, he was the first to drop this line!  Good things don't always happen when you sit on the couch, sometimes you got to take the bull by the horns and hike 3-hrs up a snow dumped mountain to reap life's rewards.  Thanks Matthius, we don't want to slow you down so we're sending you out a new Shark 88, the lightest most durable watch we make, you won't even know you have it on!




Lunch with Spencer Whiting

After raiding the Volcom warehouse, up and coming snow shredder Spencer Whiting dropped by Freestyle for a little face to face lunch meeting.  It's always nice to finally meet a rider in person, especially one that has been doing such an awesome job representing.  If you haven't seen Spencer's New Pollution on Fuel TV, we recommend you watch it now for a little winter inspiration.   Be sure to give the kid a big Freestyle rock out with your clock out high-5 when you see him at your local mountain!








Mini Mako catch and release

A friend sent us this shot of a mini mako shark caught last weekend somewhere between Newport and Catalina.  Of course they let this little guy go to swim another day, but we are wondering.if there's a baby, then where's mama?





2012:  The end or the beginning?

There's tons of debate about what will happen in 2012, but one thing is for sure, this 2012 Movie trailer is legit.  We are the kind of company that lives in the now, and takes each day as it comes, so frankly we aren't going to worry too much about 2012, if it ends at least we went down doing something we love.  Anyhow, on the bright side the 2012 movie looks like an intense Hollywood experience and worth a trip to the theatre.  What do you all think?









Doing good work in Africa

While Freestyle Snowboarder and Video Marketer, Davis Paul, has been out milking the last bits of summer by editing teasers for the upcoming winter, his girlfriend has been in Africa doing humanitarian work for an organization called ELI (Empowering Lives International).  Somerlyn Wood and Alie Renton sent us these photos from their trip, which also included delivering 2 babies, counting thousands of pills, giving countless shots, and even flipping a car (no one was hurt, thank goodness)!  From all of us at Freestyle, we want to give you a loud and powerful high five! You make the world a better place.





In the meantime, back in California, Davis has NOT been delivering any babies, but he has been revisiting last winters footage to get psyched for the pending snowfall.  He's working on a little project for Freestyle called Tick Tock!  Here's a winter teaser to get you fired up.

Rollerblading.NO!

Wasn't rollerblading an X-games sport about 10 years ago?   Poor sport can't catch a break.  Even Vin Diesel hung up his blades long ago, and now the most interesting man in the world has condemned the act.  Can rollerblading be saved?  Should it be saved?  Time will tell my friends.








On a roll with Bede Durbidge

Despite a slow start on the ASP World Championship Tour, Freestyle's Bede Durbidge is back in the thick of things with a 3rd place result at Trestles backed by yesterday's 2nd place finish in France.   The mighty regular footer is an absolute contest machine and on a great roll.  Check out Bede in slides 3, 4 and 25 in this Surfline feature.  In other news, we are excited to announce the future release of Bede's signature Freestyle Watch called The Durbo.  This watch is wicked; it's safe to say there has never been a watch like it!
