Thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth at Interbike and said hello. Thanks in particular to Brad and Jeff of Urban Velo. They did a little write up on a few of our new lights for 2010. Our new Neptune USB is a rechargeable headlight with 7 LEDs and a rechargeable lithium ion battery. The Gleeman has been out for a while, but is now getting the attention it deserves. Wolverine Racing has continued to prove itself as the top racing program for developing racers of all ages in all cycling disciplines.

More importantly Wolverine Racing holds 1st place in the Pro 1/2 and Cat. 4 team rankings and after this weekend's races we should move up from 2nd to 1st in Cat. 3

The consistency continues with our MTB Team too! Every member of the team has finished in the top 10 in there last 10 races! The most impressive performances have come from Amanda Ryan and Tim Finkel. In her first year of racing Amanda has quickly become this years most dominant U23/Elite racer in Michigan. 2 wins, 4 podiums and and a handful of top 10's foreshadow a bright future. After setting a course record and winning last years 24hrs of Hot August Nights, Tim was extended an invitation to compete in this years 24hr Solo World Championships in Canmore, Alberta Canada. Racing with his trade team, Tim finished a very impressive 15th in only his second 24hr solo race.

Last but not least, the Wolverine Racing Track Team. In July Danielle Mullis and Nick Console headed west to Carson City, California to compete in the Junior National Track Championships. Nick left Carson City with a solid racing experience and Danielle left with four gold medals and the National Champion Jersey in the women's 12yr category. Most recently Luke Cavender won the The Detroit 6-Day along with Rock Racing's Iggy Silva and yesterday long time Wolverine and 1954 US Olympian Tom O'Rourke won the National Champions Jersey at the US Masters Track National Championships in the 75+ 500mTT. Along with winning the jersey, Tom also set a National and WORLD Records in the process.

Here's a shout out to one of the collegiate teams that VETTA sponsors. I want to let everyone know about some of the accomplishments that the MIT Collegiate Cycling Team has had over the past year, both on and off the bike. Some of the highlights from this season were:

1. MIT taking 1st in the DII (our division) and DI standings for the Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference

2. The team took 2nd in the team omnium at Collegiate Road Nationals on its way to ranking 1st in the Overall DII National Team Classification

3. Graduate student Katie Lovejoy helped develop Pedro's new Ice Wax 2.0

4. MIT successfully ran the "X-Pot 3D" collegiate road racing weekend for the first time this year; the road race was ranked by collegiate riders as the "Most Soul Crushing Race" of the season

Let's all give them a round of applause for their amazing achievements in 2009. Let's hope they continue their success in the upcoming season.

April 18-19 Monterey, CA Laguna Seca Raceway

Georgia Gould, Katerina Nash, Catharine Pendrel, Chloe Forsman, and Alison Dunlap spent the weekend with Bev Robinson, the winner of the Breast Cancer Fund Auction, racing, signing autographs, and enjoying the unseasonably warm weather at the annual Sea Otter Classic. Both Georgia and Katerina missed the event last year, as it overlapped with the first World Cup in Europe. For Catharine, it was her first Sea Otter with LUNA. For Chloe, it was another exciting weekend of fighting the dusty chaos of pro women's racing. And for Bev, it was the opportunity of a lifetime to spend four days with the number one team in the world. The LUNA women dominated the women's cross country with Georgia taking the win and Catharine finishing in 3rd. Katerina was 7th, and Chloe, despite massive stomach problems, was happy to say she finished.

Short Track

Under gorgeous blue skies, the women raced their first short track event of the season. The course was slightly shorter than last year, which made for fast lap times and aggressive riding. Georgia and Catharine made the front group along with three other riders. After taking numerous pulls at the front with Georgia, Catharine attacked with 3 1/2 laps to go. She quickly established a gap and held it until the last lap. Emily Batty (Trek Canada)attacked up the climb, holding off Catharine and Lene Byberg (Specialized Factory Racing) at the finish. Georgia crossed the line in 5th. Katerina, after nursing a knee injury all winter, is slowly gaining fitness. She's not up to her usual dominating style of riding, but anticipates a return to the podium after a few more races. Chloe rode well until the last 1/3 of the race when she slowly faded from the front, finishing a respectable 14th.

Cross Country

The incredible weather continued on Sunday for the women's cross country. It was so incredible, in fact, that the officials shortened the race to one lap. There were rumors that it was over 100 degrees out on the course. With one lap over 19 miles long, it was still going to be a challenging day. In typical LUNA style, Georgia jumped into the singletrack descent in first, followed closely by Katerina and Catharine a little further back. After blowing a turn, Katerina came into the lead and took over as the downhill master. She and Georgia quickly established a gap. On the first big climb, Georgia moved in front of Katerina and rode off alone, where she remained for the rest of the race. Catharine and Lene Byberg were in the chase group, followed by Katerina and then Chloe, a little ways back dealing with painful stomach cramps. The temperatures kept climbing, making for a brutally hot race. The long head wind climb back to the finish was a welcome relief to the riders. Georgia held on for the win, with Catharine taking 3rd, and Katerina finishing in 7th. Chloe, despite wanting to crawl under a bush and die, managed to complete the entire lap and finish the race. The heat and a reaction to peanut butter were the culprits of her misery.

Georgia now has a commanding lead in the overall Pro Mountain Bike Cross Country Tour presented by Sho-Air with Catharine sitting comfortably in 2nd. LUNA also leads the women's team standings.

Bev Robinson

Back in October of 2008, the LUNA Pro Team held an online auction to raise money for the Breast Cancer Fund. The winner of the auction got to collect on her prize this past weekend. Bev Robinson, whose husband Dwayne placed the winning bid, was an honorary member of Team Luna Chix for the Sea Otter Classic. She got a brand new Orbea hardtail, Mavic shoes, Giro helmet, race clothing, casual clothing, and all the attention she could handle. Bev also got to race in the women's expert cross country race on Sunday morning as part of her winning package. Plus I (Alison) got to be her roommate, drive her to and from the venue, and play soigneur for her at the race. It was a fantastic weekend and we all enjoyed meeting Bev and sharing with her a part of our crazy lives as professional bike racers. And thank you Bev for all your support of the Breast Cancer Fund!

VETTA Sponsored UAH Cycling Team qualifies rider f...

In the teams first season of racing, the UAH Cycling team has qualified one of its riders to compete in the Collegiate National Championships, to be held in Fort Collins, Colorado May 8th through 10th.

Curtis Grace, a Junior, was informed of the invitation earlier today by Daniel Matheny, director of Collegiate racing for USA Cycling. Curtis will compete in the Division 2 Road Race and Criterium events.

Curtiss invitation to compete in Nationals caps off an incredible season by the Chargers. The team of 6 racers managed to secure 33 Top 10 finishes and 16 top 5 finishes across all 3 levels of competition. The team won the Mens Overall competition, or Omnium, at the University of Alabama race in Tuscaloosa February 21st and 22nd. The team ended up racing in all mens categories, producing top 5 results in all of them, with Curtis even winning a mens Omnium at Alabama in the A category. Joe Bray also had an incredibly successful season, moving from the C category to the B category, where he continued to find success. Barrett Eubanks racked up several results for the team, culminating with a 3rd place finish in the Road Race this past weekend at Brevard. Clinton Wann became a consistent top-10 finisher in the closing races of the season. Daniel Carter and Josh Kirkland also raced for the team, and were instrumental in securing enough points to win the Omnium at Alabama.

As the road season winds to a close the team is already preparing for the fall, where both Mountain Biking and Track Cycling will be contested.

Congratulations to the Hincapie Cycling team for doing so well this year. The men’s team has taken 3^rd and 5th and 7^th in our last two races. Catharine Pendrel Wins the Pan American Championships and Gains Number One World Ranking!

Georgia Gould, Catharine Pendrel, and Chloe Forsman recently travelled to Santiago, Chile for the annual Pan American Continental Championships. Catharine Pendrel rode off the front and won by 5 minutes over her LUNA teammate Georgia Gould who finished in 2nd. Chloe Forsman rode aggressively despite crashing and dealing with damaged bike parts to finish in 5th in the U23 race.

The Continental Championships are held every year in late March and have typically been in a South American country. This year the event was held in Santiago, Chile. The course was full of steep climbs and nasty, loose, rut filled descents. Perfect conditions for the LUNA team. After a fast start, Catharine Pendrel passed Mary McConnelog (Seven Cycles USA) and Georgia to take the lead at the start of the first painfully steep climb. She slowly pulled away and was never seen again by the other racers until the finish of the race. Georgia, despite not having great legs, rode a steady race and finished in 2nd.

In the U23 event, Chloe had a good start but suffered some mechanicals as a result of a nasty crash. She figures she lost over 10 minutes because of it. Chloe still finished a respectable 5th.

Because of the large amount of UCI points available at the Continental Championships, Catharine's win made her the number one ranked riding in the world. Congratulations!

Who: Women ages 15+ with intermediate to advanced skills, racers and non-racers welcome!

What: Exclusive clinic limited to 12 women, hosted by Alison Dunlap and Team LUNA Chix. The clinic includes continental breakfast with the LUNA Pro Team Mechanics; 3 hours of skills building with Alison and Team LUNA Chix; and lunch with the LUNA Pro Team.
