The AMSOIL Sandbox Arena in New Richmond, Wisconsin will host a special race weekend November 14-15 with an appearance by Team Geico Powersports/AMSOIL Supercross East Coast Lites rider Blake Wharton. Wharton will be riding on the track and signing autographs Saturday November 14 between the youth and big bike races. Motocross races will be held on Saturday and quad races will run on Sunday. TORC Makes Its Live Broadcast Debut on ABC
The Traxxas TORC Truck Series presented by AMSOIL will make history this weekend, broadcasting live for the first time on network television from the Crandon International Off Road Raceway on September 6, 2009 at 4 p.m. ET on ABC (1 p.m. PT).

"This will be another groundbreaking weekend for TORC. It's amazing what we've accomplished in just a few short months; it just keeps getting bigger and better," added Mitch Covington, co-owner of TORC. "Labor Day weekend with two days of off-road racing, we expect to draw a crowd of more than 40,000 spectators. Add live network t.v. and it just doesn't get any better than this."

The final two rounds of The Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL will be held at Perris Auto Speedway in Perris, Calif. (September 24-25) and Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nev. (October 23-24).

Pegrem Looks To Continue Win Streak, TORC on ESPN2

It will be a busy weekend for Team AMSOIL as sponsored race teams go after wins coast-to-coast, on air and even over seas.

AMA Pro Road Racing

Team AMSOIL road racer Larry Pegram is back in action this weekend at Virginia International Raceway for the Big Kahuna Nationals. Pegram will strive to duplicate his last race weekend, one that saw him win pole position and both AMA Pro American Superbike races on his Ducati 1098R at Heartland Park Topeka in what was an incredible three days for the veteran racer. Pegram has emerged victorious three times in 2009 and his hot streak has seen him rise to third place in the series points.

"We're looking to carry the momentum from Kansas," said Pegram. "VIR is a nice track and the fans are great. It should be a good weekend for the team. The track is a fairly tight circuit and the layout has some good passing spots. We're hot right now and the way things are going, we feel we can do very well at all the tracks."

Qualifying will be held on Friday, with same-day coverage of both races (Saturday and Sunday) on Speed. AMSOIL is the Official Oil of AMA Pro Road Racing and the presenting sponsor of the Daytona Sportbike class.

Top AMSOIL amateur heads overseas

Fresh off his dominating week at the AMA Amateur Nationals presented by AMSOIL, AMSOIL/Factory Connection motocrosser Eli Tomac is headed to New Zealand this weekend.

Tomac, who destroyed the field at Loretta Lynn's Ranch by winning all six of his moto's and two more championships, will take part in the FIM Jr. World Championships in Taupo, New Zealand this weekend. Tomac is leading a strong U.S. team into the event.

K-Dub Returns

Team AMSOIL motocross rider Kevin Windham will be making his 2009 outdoor debut. K-Dub will pilot his GEICO Powersports/AMSOIL/Honda at the Unadilla round of the AMA Motocross Championships in New York.

Windham, who finished fourth in the AMA Supercross series this winter, hasn't raced an outdoor national in two seasons, when he finished second overall. Racing takes place on Saturday August 15th with same-day television coverage on SPEED starting at 7:00 P.M. EST.

The AMA ATV Motocross Championship will take one step closer to crowning a champion this weekend in Walnut, Ill. AMSOIL is the Official Oil of the series.

Team AMSOIL late model driver Brady Smith will compete at a World of Outlaws Late Model Series triple header this weekend at Grandview Speedway and Bedford Speedway in Pennsylvania and Hagerstown Speedway in Maryland.

AMSOIL Amateur Eli Tomac Topples Competition at Loretta's

From a field of more than 20,000 hopefuls and nearly 1,400 riders who qualified for the national event at Loretta Lynn Ranch, champions in 34 classes were crowned after a week of racing at the Air Nautiques AMA Amateur Motocross Nationals presented by AMSOIL.

Leading the way was the top amateur from the AMSOIL/Factory Connection team, Eli Tomac.

The Colorado-born rider turned in a dominant performance, winning all six of his motos by large margins and taking the Schoolboy 2 and 250 B Modified classes. Tomacer also turned in the fastest lap time of the week. Although classified as a B (intermediate) rider, Tomac's lap times put him on par with the A (expert) level racers.

Three outstanding riders-each who claimed two championships-were honored with AMA specialty awards. Canidae Motosport.com Kawasaki's Dean Wilson, of Canada, claimed the coveted AMA Horizon Award after claiming the 450 A/Pro Sport Title and the 250 A Title and winning five of his six motos during the week. Kawasaki Team Green's Zach Bell was named AMA Youth Rider of the Year for claiming the Supermini 1 and Supermini 2 crowns. The Georgia-based rider also won five of his six motos. And Yamaha legend Doug Dubach, a Californian, was named Vet Rider of the Year for sweeping all six of his motos and claiming both the Plus 40 and Plus 45 Championships.

Wilson took two of the A class titles, with Monster Energy Team Green Kawasaki rider Blake Baggett, of California, delivering the 250 A Pro Sport title. Baggett was plagued with bad starts when matched against Wilson in the 250 A class and had to settle for third in that class, behind Honda of Houston backed Taylor Futrell. In the 450 A class, Suzuki's Justin Weeks bought three moto wins back to his Cincinnati, Ohio, home. Kawasaki's Malcolm Stewart, younger brother of Monster Energy AMA Supercross Champion James Stewart, took second behind Weeks in each moto. Stewart also placed second overall in the Open Four-Stroke Class, which saw Alabama's Heath Harrison roll to a championship.

Other A class favorites struggled, such as KTM's Jason Anderson, who saw his title hopes eliminated in his first two motos of the week due to crashes and mechanical troubles.

After Tomac cleaned up in the 250 B Mod class, California's Michael Lieb won the 250 B stock title in one of the most dramatic races of the week. Lieb won the first two motos, but went down in a first-turn crash in the third moto. His clutch perch broken, and riding in pain, Lieb managed to dig down for a 14th-place finish in the third moto, still enough to edge Ireland's Edward Allingham and Lance Vincent, who went 4-13-1 in his races. Florida's Justin Starling won the 450 B stock class, and Gannon Audette won 450 B Mod, both on Suzukis. Yamaha rider Bryce Valle finished second in both classes.

Tomac took the Schoolboy 2 class for 250 four-strokes, while Kawasaki's Jacob Hayes won the Schoolboy 1 class for 125 two-strokes. Hayes survived the best moto of the week, as the final moto in that class featured a four-rider duel including Kyle Peters, Brad Frace and Joey Savatgy that went down to the final corner.

The C classes were topped by Washington's Conner Elliot (250 C stock), New Jersey's Jesse Pierce (250 C Mod) and Oklahoma's Blake Barnes (450 C Mod).Bell won both Supermini classes over Suzuki rider Jeremy Martin, of Millville, Minn. The coveted 85 (12-13) stock and mod classes featured a dramatic showdown between future pro superstars, with much-heralded Monster Energy Kawasaki pilot Adam Cianciarulo winning both titles. It wasn't easy on the 12-year-old Florida native, though. He overcame a challenge from Alabama's Thomas Covington to win the Stock class, but was sitting fourth overall in the Mod division heading into the third moto. Cianciarulo grabbed the holeshot and won the third moto, and improbably, his competitors ran into trouble. Yamaha's rider Matt Biscelia and Suzuki's Jesse Masterpool came into the moto tied for the overall lead. Biscelia crashed, but came back through to challenge Masterpool for second. They tangled and found their bikes locked together, and after taking over a lap to get unhooked, Cianciarulo had the title in his hands in dramatic fashion.

In the 85 (9-11) classes, KTM's Alexander Frye turned in a strong last-moto charge to top Kawasaki Blake Green for the title, but Green came back to win the Zach Bell's younger brother Chase delivered in the stock class to claim a title there. In the 65 classes, Zach Bell's younger brother Chase won the 65 (10-11) Stock title, with Canada's Kade Walker winning the 65 (7-11) Modified class. California's Sean Cantrell won a close fight with Michael Mosiman to win the 65 (7-9) stock class.

The Vet classes were dominated by Dubach and Massachusett's Keith Johnson, who won the Plus 25 and Plus 35 classes for the second-straight year on his Kawasaki. Kawasaki's Matt Tedder won the 50 plus class, which had returned to the event this year, over Honda rider Craig Pickett. Mississippi's Glen Myatt won the 30 B/C class.

The Women's class usually delivers some of the best racing of the event, and this year was no exception. California's Alexah Pearson held a big points lead with 1-3 moto scores, but she crashed on the first lap of the third moto. She charged back to 11th, but it wasn't enough to stop Texas' Shelbie Brittain from claiming the title with 3-6-3 scores. Kawasaki's Sarah Price, who finished second in the class last year, took the runner up result again, going 11-1-1 after crashing in a muddy first moto.

Utah's Amanda Mahue avoided such drama in the Girls (11-15) class, winning all three motos.The 51cc classes went to Cobra's Stilez Robertson in AMA Class 1 Stock (4-6) and Jordan Bailey in AMA Class 2 Stock (7-8), and Vance Stiers in the Stock Shaft Drive class on a Yamaha.

As always, the event featured plenty of activity off the track, living up to the reputation as "The World's Greatest Motocross Vacation."

Team AMSOIL Impresses at Red Bud

With the WMA on hiatus until Washougal, the GEICO Powersports/AMSOIL/Honda squad rolled into Red Bud with three strong 250cc contenders, and they mixed it up at the front of the pack all day long.

Aussie Brett Metcalfe is getting stronger every round, and after the Colorado event, he said he was really looking forward to challenging for the win. At RedBud, he got that opportunity. In the first moto, he ran third early and was challenging the leaders, but arm-pump set in, and he began to fall back, eventually getting passed on the last lap by his teammate Justin Barcia, and finished fourth.

In moto two, "Metty" made some changes to his bike to try and fix his arm-pump, and it helped him maintain a fast pace for the whole moto.

“For the second moto, we changed my bike setup quite a bit, and as soon as I got out there, it felt really good,” Metcalfe said. “I got a good start and worked my way up into third, and that was it. I kept charging the whole moto and felt really strong the whole moto, and I was slowly creeping up on Searle for second, but I couldn’t bridge the gap fast enough. I went 4-3, and it was a good day, but I still think I can do better, and I want to do better.”

With the final results, the difference between first and fourth, where Metcalfe finished overall, was just the spot he lost in moto one. Had Metcalfe finished third in moto one, he would’ve won the overall.

“That’s how crazy that was,” Metcalfe said.

His teammate Justin Barcia came from way back in the first moto to challenge Metcalfe for third, eventually passing him on the last lap over LaRocco’s Leap.

“You know, it was a mess in the first turn, and I got bumped around a little bit, and my thumb got smashed... I thought I broke it,” Barcia said. “But I just forgot about everything and tried to ride my butt off. But I came through the pack really hard in the first moto and made a last-lap pass on my teammate Brett Metcalfe over LaRocco’s Leap. I wanted to get on the podium, and it was the last lap, and I was pushing really hard the whole moto until I finally got up to the position where I was on the podium. I was excited about that.”

Unfortunately, moto two’s start was even worse for Barcia.

“I got two bad starts this weekend,” Barcia said. “I just had bad starts. I was off my game a little bit off the start. I really wanted to get on the podium in both motos, but I got the worst start ever. I was probably last, and there were a few fast guys up front who checked out. I got up to a position at the end of the moto where there was no one around me. I kept pushing, but the guys in front had a good pace and I couldn’t do any better than seventh in that moto.”

Barcia ended up sixth overall in the competitive 250 class.

And finally, Blake Wharton was fast all day at RedBud, but ran into some problems, starting with getting tangled up in the first-turn mess that Barcia narrowly avoided. As Wharton worked his way forward, he fell in a turn and was unable to start his bike, and that was the moto for him. But in moto two, things were a lot better. He started somewhat poorly, but caught up to seventh before a couple falls cost him.

From here, the AMSOIL sponsored team has a weekend off before heading to Millville, Minn., for round seven of the series at Spring Creek MX.

Kevin Windham To Race Summer X Games, U.S. Open

Team AMSOIL rider Kevin Windham is getting ready for some high-profile events this summer. The former motocross champion and top rider on the Geico Powersports/AMSOIL/Honda team has committed to take part in ESPN's Summer X Games and the Rock Star U.S Open this fall.

Windham, who finished second overall in the 2008 Supercross series, has been invited to take part in two events at this summer's X Games. Windham is on the list of competitors for Moto X Step Up on July 30 and the Moto X Super X race on Saturday, August 1.

K-Dub has also committed to racing at this year's Rock Star Energy Drink U.S. Open inside Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena on October 9-11. Windham has enjoyed success at the event in the past, placing as high as second in 2000 and 2005. In his five appearances at the U.S. Open, Windham has finished no lower than seventh.

“The U.S. Open is a fun weekend for the riders and fans,” said Windham. “The MGM Grand Garden Arena provides a great atmosphere for a race. It’s like you come to a party and a race breaks out. This fall is going to be exciting because I will race the US Open the first part of October and my wife, Dottie, and I are expecting our fourth child at the end of the month.”

Windham joins defending AMA Supercross class champion James Stewart, who recently announced he will compete at this year’s event, on the starting gate. Tickets for the 2009 Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open are available at Ticketmaster locations.

Pegram Readies For Laguna Seca, Nabs Two Cover Shots

As the global racing community descends on California’s Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Ducati’s AMA star prepares to defend his recent Superbike victory.

This coming weekend marks the seventh round of the AMA Pro Racing American Superbike Championship; held in conjunction with the United States Grand Prix. Ducati Corse’s MotoGP squad has flown over to participate in the World Championship event, enabling the AMSOIL sponsored Larry Pegram to shine in front of the 1098 R’s Bolognese fabricators.

The last race, held in Elkhart Lake, Wis., was an epic duel. When the dust settled, Pegram and the Ducati 1098 R beat Suzuki’s Mat Mladin, only the second time anyone has done so this year. The Foremost/Ducati/AMSOIL squad has had a few weeks off to refresh their 1098 R’s, and Pegram is looking forward to a good performance at Ducati North America’s second “home” track.

“The win at Road America has really boosted my own and the team’s confidence. We are hungry to win more races and I hope the streak continues at Laguna Seca,” commented Pegram. “Massimo Capanna and his crew have been busy preparing for weeks now, and I’m ready to race.”

The AMA Superbike race will take place Sunday at 4:15, following Saturday qualifying at 1:00. The Daytona SuperBike class presented by AMSOIL will also race at Laguna Seca this weekend. AMSOIL is the Official Oil of AMA Pro Road Racing.

Television Coverage

The AMA Pro Road Racing at the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Laguna Seca on July 3-5th will be the first races to air on SPEED in a new, same-weekend programming format that was announced last month. SPEED's decision to return to same-day or same-weekend coverage of AMA Pro Road Racing has been welcome news for series competitors, promoters and, most importantly, motorcycle road racing fans.

After a brief experiment in the first half of the year with the Saturday evening studio program AMA Pro Prime Time, SPEED is returning to same-weekend coverage of AMA Pro National Guard American Superbike presented by Parts Unlimited and AMA Pro Daytona SportBike presented by AMSOIL racing beginning with the action from Laguna Seca this weekend. The AMA Pro Road Racing action can be seen Sunday, July 5 at 9 p.m. PT (late Sunday/early Monday, July 6 at Midnight ET). T

Rinker Closes Championship Gap in Bay City

Tim Seebold took the win in Bay City, but it was AMSOIL driver Terry Rinker closed the gap on Shaun Torrente in the standings for the 2009 F1 ChampBoat Series presented by AMSOIL.

Rinker started the weekend gaining valuable points towards what could become his fifth career ChampBoat championship by becoming the number two qualifier behind Seebold, but ahead of series points leader Shaun Torrente.

During Sunday's final, Seebold dictated the action at the front of the race, but the real battle was behind him between Torrente and Rinker. Torrente would win Sunday's battle, but only because of a broken fuel pump suffered by Rinker's boat on the lap 31 of the 50-lap affair. After the red flag came out to stop the race, Rinker was able to repair the fuel pump and, after starting dead last, moved the Team AMSOIL boat back into fourth over the final 19 laps. Despite finishing one spot behind Torrente (third) in Bay City, Rinker was able to close the gap by 14 points thanks to his strong qualifying on Saturday. Rinker is no just 24 points behind Torrente.

"We had a great set-up this weekend, from qualifying to the final," said Rinker. "It's too bad we had the fuel pump issue, because we could have been back on the podium for the third time this year. The guys did a great job getting us back out there after the red flag. Without their hard work, we wouldn't have been able to close the gap on Shaun and defend our 2009 championship."

The F1-ChampBoat Series now is off until mid-August when it heads to Nashville, Tenn. on the August 15-16. for the first time in its 25-year history.

Hord, Oberg, RJ Headline Team AMSOIL at Big House

The Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL came to Crandon International Off Road Raceway for rounds five and six of the 2009 schedule this past weekend. It was the west coast teams turn to make the 2,000 mile trek to Wisconsin to compete at the most prestigious track on the TORC circuit, in front of over 24,000 fans.

Saturday in the Kumho Pro 4x4 class, Monster Energy's Rick Huseman took both the win and the Oakley Bomb Run Award for the fastest lap time, almost breaking Johnny Greaves 2008 track record. The father son Rockstar team of Kyle and Curt Leduc swept second and third place. AMSOIL Super Team driver Scott Douglas was able to battle back from early battle's for a sixth.

In the AMSOIL Pro 2WD class, Rob MacCachren and Todd Leduc took first and second place. Red Bull/AMSOIL star Ricky Johnson took third place and the Oakley Bomb Run Award for fastest lap. AMSOIL Super Team member Mike Oberg shot out of turn one in second and held on to the position before hitting a rutted section of the track, turning his truck over and putting him out of the race.

In the Pro Light class the podium was stacked with talent including winner Marty Hart. AMSOIL's Chad Hord took a very close second and the Oakley Bomb Run Award; Steven Federico took third and his first podium of the 2009 season.

Sunday's action in the Kumho Pro 4x4 class saw Red Bull/AMSOIL's Steve Barlow lead his first race of the season for several laps, before losing the lead in a multi car incident. In the end it was Huseman who swept the weekend by capturing both the win and the Oakley Bomb. Despite flipping his AMSOIL Ford F-150 on its roof early in the race, Douglas was able to refire and track down the leaders for a fourth place finish.

In a similar race Barlow's teammate, Ricky Johnson also led most of the AMSOIL Pro 2wd race, but a punctured tire from contact caused him to finish in fourth place. AMSOIL sponsored Scott Taylor took first place and the Oakley Bomb Run Award. Crowd favorite Dan Vanden Heuval rounded out the top three.

The highlight of the weekend was surely The Forest County Potawatomi Chairman's Cup. Pro 4x4 and Pro 2wd trucks battled it out in a shoot-out for the $25,000 prize, as well as the coveted Chairman's Cup Trophy. The Pro 2wd driver lined up almost a full half track ahead of the Pro 4x4 class. Ricky Johnson took the lead and held it throughout with Oberg hot on his tail. In lap two the Wild Man Cenni crashed on the front stretch taking him out of the race. Johnny Greaves also pulled off early in the race. On lap 3 Douglas, Huseman and Mark Jenkins got into each other. Douglas was black flagged for a debatable rough driving call. In the end, Johnson took his first ever cup win, with Oberg putting pressure on him despite an obstructed view for much of the race.

The next stop on the 2009 TORC race schedule is Bark River International Raceway in Bark River, Michigan for rounds seven and eight. The action will take place over two days, July 11-12.

Team AMSOIL Beats Its Own Endurance Record & Wins

The AMSOIL Offshore Racing Team has set the Official Endurance Record sanctioned by OSS in 2008 in the Cat Lite Class from Miami, Florida to Bimini, Bahamas and back. This year, the team returned with a mission of defending and beating its own record in the 106 mile long race. On Friday, June 12th, Team AMSOIL #77 did just that by running the endurance event in 59 minutes and 40 seconds, which was a little over 5 minutes faster than last year’s record. The official average speed of the Team was recorded at 106.8174 MPH.

To further show the endurance and reliability afforded by using AMSOIL lubricants, Team AMSOIL participated in Saturday’s Thunderboat Rally from Sunny Isles Beach to Key Largo and back. The Team received a lot of recognition from other participants and fans as a front runner in the long range event.

The boat was entered in the Sunny Isles Offshore Challenge on Sunday. Team AMSOIL won the Cat Lite class easily in the wind blown Atlantic Ocean waters in front of fans on Beach and in the row of mega hotels along the front straightaway. The start-finish line was located at the famous Trump International Beach Resort Hotel.

During the 3 day event, over 350 race miles were logged on the Team AMSOIL Skater with no problems of any kind.

Canard Third Overall in Texas

The GEICO Powersports/AMSOIL/Honda team headed down to Wortham, Texas, for round three of the AMA Pro Motocross Championships, and it was the closest thing to a hometown race for Blake Wharton (from Texas) and Trey Canard (from Oklahoma).

Canard has been up front all year, and as the team left Texas, he still only has one moto finish outside of the top three. At Freestone County Raceway, he got the hole shot in the first moto, but fell, and in probably his best ride of the year (following the crash), he fought his way all the way back up to a strong third-place finish. In moto two, he led for quite a while before finishing second. Still, it was good enough for third overall, and he’s still third in points.

“I had the holeshot in the first moto and was leading, and then I crashed, but I got up and I thought I rode with a lot of heart and came back up to third, which I thought was awesome,” Canard said. “Then, in moto two, I got the hole shot again, which was great. I led until nearly halfway before Dungey got around me, and I tried to shadow him for a little bit, and I thought I was actually making time on him, and the [lap time] sheet shows that I was, but then I went off the track and lost big. After that, I never got it back together, and there was only a lap left, so that was the end.”

His teammate Brett Metcalfe had a good weekend as he continues to improve physically, racing himself into shape. Metcalfe started near the front in the first moto and stayed there for most of the race before Canard got him at the end of the moto for third. Then, in moto two, Metcalfe was working his way forward before coming together with another rider and going down. Metcalfe was fourth overall on the day.

Rookie Blake Wharton was hampered by a fall just like Canard, but it also didn’t stop him from being near the front of the pack. The Texan was fifth overall meaning three of AMSOIL's four riders 250cc riders were in the top five at the event.

Who was missing? Rookie sensation Justin Barcia, who fell on the opening lap of the first moto and got going again absolutely last – by a large margin – and then caught up from 40th to 14th before he went down hard, dropping out of the moto. He hit his head and bit his lip, but made a go of it in moto two anyway. But it was a bit too much for him and he eventually finished 26th.

In the 450 class, Dan Reardon had another good day overall, with only a couple minor issues. Reardon went 12-4 for sixth overall. After moto two, he looked exhausted, but it was mainly because he got so excited running up front in the beginning of the race.

“It was hot out here, but I think I worked myself up just being in the position I was in, and I was just revving bad the last few laps, and it hurt me really bad,” Reardon said. “But I feel all right now, and at least I tried my hardest, so hopefully I can keep it rolling along.”

From here, the AMSOIL sponsored team heads east to Mt. Morris, Penn., for round four of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship at High Point Raceway.

Douglas Battles Out Front at TORC Opener, Team AMSOIL Nabs 8 Podiums

Scott Douglas hasn’t forgotten the way his 2008 short course season ended, (a hard crash and multiple broken bones in his leg, ankle and feet), but that sure didn’t make him take his foot off the gas. A strong proponent of the new Professional Drivers Group (PDG) and Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL, Douglas Motorsports went all in with the new short course series and attacked with a championship-winning attitude. That aggressive approach landed Douglas back on the winner’s podium with a second place finish in round two of racing at Texas Motor Speedway.

And track conditions at the Texas Motor Speedway’s dirt track oval were very different than anything most teams have encountered. The Texas clay was not only heavy and thick, but also extremely sticky and changed rapidly as temperatures cooled down for the night race under the lights.

“This new Kumho tire is going to be great for a lot of the tracks we race on, but out here, it simply stuck too well," said Douglas. "I couldn’t rotate the truck in the corners the way you need to on a course like we have here in Texas.

Despite the handling challenges, Douglas finished fifth in round one, delivering valuable points toward the 2009 TORC championship chase. The crew made critical adjustments to the truck for Saturday night’s round two of racing, and then the rains came.

The morning of Saturday May 16th, the racecourse was literally under water, but when the rain eased early in the afternoon the track crew went to work draining and peeling back the thick Texas clay. By the time the lights came on and the stands began to fill, TORC had a track that was race ready.

Douglas started the race on the outside of row one, and dropped back to fifth before making a charge. After the mandatory red flag to clean up of the track, Douglas diced through the pack giving the fans great action and lead changes through the second half of the race. Staying out of trouble, he brought the AMSOIL Kumho Ford F-150 across the finish line in second earning a trip back to the winner’s circle podium, his ninth podium in his past twelve races.

Douglas wasn't alone on the podium for Team AMSOIL over the weekend. In total, AMSOIL sponsored drivers took home eight out of a possible 18 podiums, including two wins. AMSOIL drivers Jeff Kincaid and Chad Hord finished second and third respectively in Friday nights Pro Light truck race. Pro 2wd say a pair of wins for AMSOIL with Ricky Johnson winning on that Friday night and Scotty Taylor taking the checkered on Saturday. Johnson also finished second on Saturday. Jeremy McGrath put his Monster Energy/AMSOIL truck in the second spot during Friday's Pro 2wd race while teammate Johnny Greaves took a third in Friday's Pro 4x4 race.

Crapo Takes Win at AMSOIL Championship Snocross Series Race in New York

It was anybody’s race in the AMSOIL Championship Snocross Series Pro-Super Stock final on the afternoon of February 14th at the Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack facility. With the domination factor known as Tucker Hibbert out of the picture, a talented field of the world’s best snocross riders was hungry to prove their mettle on the national stage.

Under fading sun and a track worn from a day’s worth of qualifying, Polaris rider TJ Gulla set the early pace, grabbing the holeshot at the onset of the 18-lap Pro-Super Stock final. Close in tow was AMSOIL/Scheuring SpeedSports rider Shaun Crapo and New York native Brett Bender, fresh off his first pro podium from a week ago.

Setting a blistering pace, Gulla and Crapo edged out to a comfortable margin early and began to encounter lap traffic on lap six. While Gulla and Crapo proceeded to edge away from the rest of the pack, a battle for third played out behind them as Bender, Garth Kaufman and Levi LaVallee rode nose to tail in search of a clean pass. Past the halfway point it appeared Bender might hold on for a second straight podium, but suddenly patience paid off for Kaufman as he hammered the massive back straight triple to overtake Bender. Four laps later, LaVallee mirrored the pass and shuffled Bender back to fifth with only four laps to go.

With less than three laps to go, it appeared Gulla was a shoe-in for his first pro win of the season but suddenly his lead vanished as he got tangled up with the lapped sled of Matt Judnick. Gullas mistake opened the door for Crapo, who took home his first ACSS win of the year (Crapo also won the Pro race at the AMSOIL Eagle River World Championship race in January).

“I feel bad for TJ,” said Crapo as he stood atop the podium during post race ceremonies. “He deserves to be here. But our team has been working so hard for this, and this weekend we finally were in a position to take advantage of other riders mistakes and it paid off.”

Kaufman picked up his third straight podium with a second place finish while LeValle took home third. AMSOIL pro DJ Eckstrom was able to take starts on that day after injuring his knee and hip in Brainerd the week before. He made it into the final through the LCQ and only took the start for valuable class points.

"The knee is pretty sore and with the track having a lot of icy spots, one wrong turn could keep me out all year," said Eckstrom. "We'll do the same formula on Sunday for the mod class and rest it up so we are good to go in Valcourt."

The AMSOIL Pro Open class and both Semi-Pro classes will finish up the weekend on Sunday February 15th.

Canard Fourth In San Diego Supercross

For the last race of the initial western swing of the AMA Supercross Championship, the series headed into San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium for round seven of the 450cc series, and round six of the Lites West Coast series on Valentine’s Day.

In the Lites class, Team AMSOIL rider Trey Canard put his GEICO Powersports/Honda up front to win his heat race before getting a start just behind his teammate Dan Reardon in the main event. He ran fourth while Reardon was third. Not too long after Canard got by Reardon, Reardon went down and was slow to get up. By the time he got going, he was nearly a lap down, and he finished 18th despite the spill.

With San Diego in the rear view mirror, the Lites West riders on the GEICO Powersports team are going to be doing some outdoor testing while the Lites East gets back up and running next weekend in Atlanta.

“The plan is to get a good outdoor setting and to get really comfortable with the outdoor bike over this break," said Canard. "With about two weeks before the last supercrosses, we’ll start working on that again and try to come out at the last three swinging,”

In the 450cc class, AMSOIL rider Kevin Windham started sixth before moving up to fifth on the fourth lap. He was pressuring Mike Alessi for fourth for a few laps before he got stuck in Alessi’s pace.

“I was a little disappointed with myself,” Windham said. “I got a little complacent, I believe, and in my position, I should’ve been more aggressive."

Still, Windham soldiered on for a seventh-place finish as the series prepares to head east to rutted, softer tracks that could favor his riding style.

From here, the GEICO Powersports Honda team heads to Atlanta for round eight of the AMA Supercross Series, and round two of the Lites Eastern Regional Supercross Championship, on February 21 inside the Georgia Dome, team Lites riders Brett Metcalfe and Blake Wharton will pick up where they left off in Houston a few weeks ago.
