aRGH. I broke both my pedals yesterday (not at the same time!). Good thing I had a spare set. Almost was out of luck... one pedal was in so tight that when I tried to unscrew it, the crank arm insert started threading out instead! FInally got both pedals swapped, and got back to the dirt. Can't believe my pedals just bailed on me like that. Broke off right at the ends of the spindles, it looks like. I'd had no probs with them 'till that point.
